My sweet bride had a recording of this song back in 90's when I met her in Seward AK....I was a commercial fisherman since 16yo.....she swore "if you want me as your bride you must work on the beach" which, I did..and would do again a thousand times over....I lost her two years ago...she's the best part of me.
Lost a great friend from mayo last weekend in tragic Circumstances! A fisherman, A builder, A framer, A friend, A father, A genius. RIP to Alan Callaghan
I read somewhere ages ago that Mike Scott wrote this song in flight from New York to London in mere minutes while looking down at the calm sea. One of my favourite songs ever ❤. Light in my head, you in my arms
Excellent Band and Mike is so down to earth. I asked him how to play a few of his songs he showed me through a video on Patreon. Will see them soon in Glasgow.
I liked this band the first time they came out in 1983, after the first song I ever heard them play I knew this was music I could come back to and still be moved by it, and it's now 2024 And to play a violin and not even have to look is magical
My wife and I went to see them in the Philharmonic in Liverpool. They where on for at least two hours. They were unbelievable. His warm act was a guy called David Bovva or Bovver. He was brilliant also. A great night.
The Waterboys are the soundtrack of my life. I remember being a college DJ n the early 80s and playing Waterboys tunes and seeing them at the "Backdoor" at San Diego State. Then, when I retired from an entirely different career in 2016, I drove home to the sounds of: "One day I will be loosened from the bonds that hold me fast. The chains all hung around me will fall away at last. And on that fine and fateful day, I will take me in my hand. I will climb on that train. I will be the fisherman!" Thank you to Mike Scott and Steve Wickham. Your talents and genius have made life so much better!
No joke, im easily responsible for 3k of the 193k views....this is mesmeric, the passion of these 2, especially steve on the fiddle and his feet going 90mph...class
Lovely to find this. I was at the recording, at BBC Maida Vale Studios. About 90 minutes of chat and tunes in the middle of the day, and you leave thinking "was I really there?". Thanks to those who made this happen.
Shit .. ❤ .. so emotional .. I discovered this band randomly from a best of rock songs or something .. 22 years ago 😂 .. what an amazing song .. Perfectly played here 😢
Dear Steve and Mike and the rest of original Waterboys, Thans from my Heart for your Magic!!! I hope we can meet and play together when u come next time to Sala Barts in Barcelona. Two years ago I was playing bagpipes at the street in front of Barts just before your concert, I saw your vans parked there but it did not happen...... another try? Thanks! Mmmuak! Javi Q;oD.

Rest in peace Alan, may god grant him the best bed in heaven.
sorry for your loss..🖤
Every time I see Steve play this tune, he plays it with the enthusiasm of someone who's just discovered it for the first time. What a pro.
Very prevailing song
Your right, I could imagine him in some old fishing town sitting on the lobster baskets playing his fiddle. Simply amazing

Yesterday I saw him live and his voice still gets you same way.
Mike and Steve have played this wonderful song hundreds of times, yet they still enjoy entertaining us -- you can see it in their faces.
You can always tell a great artist, he never takes his songs for granted.
Great version of a song that got me and probably many others through the lowest points.
Excellent Band and Mike is so down to earth. I asked him how to play a few of his songs he showed me through a video on Patreon. Will see them soon in Glasgow.
Did you make it to their show? ❤
Acoustic is pure and true, what you hear is what they play, honest and real, what a great performance on both parts, thanks for this :-)
