The Blockx clean transitions and deep vibrancy really stands out for me :)
Hi Guillaume-thanks for watching and commenting! I definitely agree! I’m looking forward to using it more and exploring more colors from this brand☺️
Well do I feel silly. Never ever thought to use a b&w setting to check for values in swatches. Always do when painting but never thought of swatches. I bow to you 🤦♀️☺️💕
😁 thank you! I’m so happy you watched and commented on this video and got some good info from it!
I bow to you as well-we all get in our own heads too much sometimes👩🏻🎨💙
Happy painting!!
This was great. Thank you. A Gallo would be another one to look at.
You’re so welcome! I love A Gallo and use them often. My palette has YInMn Blue, but no Ultramarine. I’d love to have some A Gallo Ultramarine; their paints are purely delightful 💙
My favorite colors are prussian blue, Veridian the true pigment, alizarin crimson, and there are several others that are in the natural tones for painting animals and beautiful Arizona sunsets.
I agree!! It’s hard to nail down a few absolute favorites but I do love your selections🥰
This was such an informative video! Thank you for doing all the swatches. 💙 I love both the Roman Szmal and White Nights. Def my go to’s for many of their colors.
Hi Rita! Thank. You so much! I’m delighted this was interesting for you! I agree, both White Knights and Roman Szmal have gorgeous ultramarines…and more! Happy painting!👩🏻🎨🖼️🙌🏼
My goodness. This was a very thorough and enjoyable walkthrough the various watercolor brands. Thank you. I actually just made an order from Da Vinci because they had a sale last month. I started with just colors that I don't have in any of my sets. I have the mission gold pure pigment 24, and several Rosa Gallery sets that were on sale last winter... but I ended up getting a tube of their French ultramarine (red shade) because I really like their paints. ❤
All great choices! I have several favorites (as you can see💙😂💙) I’m happy you were able to take advantage of DaVinci’s sale! 🙌🏼🙌🏼👩🏻🎨
Loved seeing all these!
Hi Miranda! Thanks so much this was fun to create, too! I’m happy you enjoyed it💙👩🏻🎨
My favorites are Winsor & Newton, for the beauty, transparency and reliability of all of their pigments, and I like the fact the paint in pans doesnt slosh all over my traveling palette. I love Rosa Gallery for its pretty ultramarine color, granulation and budget price in a very nice tin. I also love Holbein for the refined and extra beautiful, high quality ultramarine pigment choice, when I don’t need a paint that moves on its own.
Here in Minnesota, M. Graham has been too fluid, staining and messy in pans. Daniel Smith has some great colors, but their ultramarine looks grayer and duller to me and their tubes explode paint when opened. I like some Sennelier paints a lot but haven’t tried their Ultramarine. I’ve tried DaVinci and it lacked the wow factor. I’ve liked some Utrecht and older Grumbacher Artists Finest and liked the latter quite well, a good buy. I’ve heard it said that Blick paints are made by Grumbacher, but Blick’s are not as good as the Grumbacher Artists Finest . Perhaps they’re more like the student version?. I have fun painting with the luxurious feel of White Nights, but for ultramarine, I prefer WN, Rosa or Holbein.
Hi Martha! Thank you so much for your generous and thoughtful comments! I have heard M Graham is frustrating for many people who live in more humid climates, so your words make sense given your location. I’ve not had the paint oozing out issue with Daniel Smith in particular -but I have seen that across the board with at least some paints in all brands.
I’ve tried a few Blick house brand art supplies and am about 50/50
On my joy in using them. I would love to find some Grumbacher artist quality-you’re fortunate to have those!
Thanks again for adding your thoughts; I genuinely appreciate it! Have a great week💙
I'm always a bit overwhelmed at first when looking at the swatches comparatively. Out of all those you swatched, I only have three: DS, WN, and White Nights. Just a thought, the more granulating ones would be great for landscapes while the finer pigment ones would be great for skin tones. To my eye, DaVinci, as well as Jackson's, seemed to have smaller particles. Thanks for the comparison, Ann. Beautiful colors and a fun video.
I agree! I’m happy you had fun with this-thanks for watching and commenting!
I’m currently using the QOR watercolors and really love them. I have a mini set of 6 in colors curated for mixing, and a;so their set of 6 gtanulator, which has ultramarine blue, purple, and green. My favorite blue is the D Smith, though. This is my second time watching this; you are generous with details, and
I love that! Lastly,
I did wonder about the White Nights brand. I’m impressed with the color and granulation.
Hi Linda! I am so happy you enjoyed this 💙 I really should use QOR more often. I did, in fact, just purchased their curated Ali Cavanaugh curated palette…love the colors in it! Of course, they have other sets that catch my eye…the mixing and granulating sets included!🥰👩🏻🎨
Daniel Smith is definitely delightful, and yes, the White Knights granulates beautifully and it’s a lovely paint. Thanks so much and happy painting!
Wow, now I'm super excited to try the Utrecht brand! I love your unacripted videos, sharing such wonderful information!
Thanks Laura! Yup, no rehearsals here!😂💙🙌🏼 I’m happy you enjoy my videos! The Utrecht is very nice-enjoy!
I find it interesting that I like French ultramarine and my cool blue is pthalo blue green shade. I enjoy my white nights and Rosa sets. I’m not sure how much the people who make watercolors would be involved in deciding to engage in conflict in general. Sigh. 😢. Thank you for the video. Ultramarine is a staple for any of my pallets.
Hello and thank you so much for watching and commenting! I have to agree-watercolorists tend to be pretty calm, agreeable, tolerant and kind people 💙 Phthalo Blue GS is an excellent cool blue-both Ultramarine and Phthalo really provide great foundations for lovely art! Happy painting!👩🏻🎨🎨🖼️
Great video, and thanks.
I was surprised at the results of your Sennelier swatch. In my experience it holds up to and even surpasses some of the brands that did mch better in your test. I don't have all of these, but have about 10 of them so far, plus 2 or 3 not shown. Sennelier ultramarine has been my favorite of all of them! Maybe it's the layer thing.... So interesting, anyway! :) Def see a few here i would like to try! ;)
You’re so welcome! Thanks for watching and commenting and I’m so happy you enjoyed this! They are fascinating in their differences, aren’t they? Happy creating!💙🎨🖼️
Oh my goodness! You are positively awash with Ultramarine. I found this entire video fascinating. Despite being waaay behind in my viewing, my curiosity made me begin with this one first. Also, I know not to give you those brands of Ultramarine. I am trying to remember if I have any other brands you don’t have, and that I also have in Ultramarine. My happy mail has turned into a somewhat mammoth task, but a fun one!! I really loved Roman Szmal, along with White Knights, which were my very first professional paints. The price point has always been low, so they too are an affordable way to take that next step in quality. This is not a political comment as such, but I do hope this company survives past the war as they have been around a long time, and any art supplies should be kept out of the entire mess. Hope that is ok to say Ann, if not I will definitely not be offended if you remove it. Art is beauty… Great job with 28 comparisons, phew! It brings it home how very fortunate, artists are spoiled these days with wonderful pigments and companies doing all the hard work, formerly left to the artist themselves. This comment might sound a tad confused due to my sleepyhead ways 😂👩🏻🎨🖌️🎨❤️
No political agenda detected in your comments, and as always, I appreciate them. I really love the granulation in the White Knights, and this test reminded me how much I adore that palette and the Roman Szmal, too! Thanks for watching & commenting💙💙
(I won’t type 28 blue hearts but you get the idea…😂😂)
@@artonthecreek I get it...💙💙💙💙💙💙... 😁
@anitadavidson1266 ☺️just as I knew you would💙💙👩🏻🎨👩🏻🎨
I would love a review in Maries masters I kinda click in this video for that particular brand but sadly you dont said a word about it 😅 Im looking for a review in your channel but I think there isnt
Beautiful collection and Thank you for the swatches
Thank you so much I’m glad you enjoyed this!
Hi Dramaticona! Guess what? I have good news! I am currently editing a Marie’s Masters review and hope to post it either this Sunday April 14 or next week, the 21st! 👩🏻🎨👍🏼👍🏼
@@artonthecreek that's awesome! Thank you for let me know and for making theses videos.
@dramaticona my pleasure☺️
The Schmincke French Ultramarine is heavily granulating. The Schmincke Ultramarine Finest not so much.
Yes! Each has a place depending upon the piece you are painting. I tend to go for more granulating ultramarines, AW…how about you?
@@artonthecreek It’s only recently that I started to appreciated granulation, but I still don’t use granulating colours much. I much prefer Ultramarine Finest; I could never understand a granulating sky 😂.
@awatercolourist depends on the storm😉
I tend to use Cerulean or Manganese for skies.
Granulation isn’t for everyone-and because ultramarine is so beautiful, I’m glad you’re enjoying the Ultramarine Finest💙💙💙
@@artonthecreek Thanks!
