If you're new to all this audio stuff, you DO NOT need to know what every little setting does but it will help to learn them. HOWEVER, the best thing is to listen to your voice as make changes to see how it is helping you sound better or sound weirder. You''ll know if you change something and don't like it. The best feature to adjust is the noise gate if you're in a noisy environment.

Hey! Thanks for this Diana. I'm testing out the SM7B tomorrow. You sound great on it. But I wanted to tell you that dark chocolate ruined my birthday. I didn't have cake on my birthday itself but that weekend I saw and bought a little chocolate cake at whole paycheck. I was super excited fir a proper sweet belated bday treat that night. BUT turned out to be some kind of bittersweet chocolate cake with no warning label. 😭😭😭😭
See Marga, you can’t trust that dark chocolate! A proper white on white cake never would disappoint you like that! Excited for you to try the SM7B! It took a bit of getting used to it but after a couple days I was sold!
Cool video. So you know, the presence boost on the back of your SM7B is to boost the mids and highs. It isn't about the big bottom boost. Keep killing it! 🤘
Thanks! Yep, can’t say I understand the full extent, audio-wise, of the technical aspects of it all but I did extensive testing with or without various features until I got a sound I liked, the presence body was a winner for me. Some of the audio tutorials get super nerdy lol
@@DianaGladney Hold on, wow I just learned something from your video that had me stumped! And I am an audio guy for 30+ years! Lol. As you know, condenser mics need phantom power but dynamic mics do not, so to add power to my cloud lifter I chose condenser mic instead of dynamic mic under the mic choices even though my SM7B is dynamic. And if you try that it does not hurt the 7B but you will see under level setting is shows the phantom power is ON... but it's NOT! For some reason on this unit you have to choose dynamic then add phantom power in the level setting for it to work! It never crossed my mind to do it that way because in the studio you either have phantom power or you don't. In fact I never even looked to see if dynamic had a _choice_ for adding phantom power because that makes no sense! You totally added my Cloud Lifter to my mix and it's amazing!!! I was wondering why I was not noticing a big difference, I thought maybe my Cloud Lifter was broken, hahahah! I just tested a condenser mic and the PP (phantom power) does work on condenser, then I tried it under dynamic and it worked when I added the PP. So, it works both ways with a condenser mic, but not a dynamic! I wonder if Rode knows this?? I bet they don't, because I have seen other audio guys with the same problem! Wow! This is huge! Thank you, thank you!! Even if you did not know you were helping so much, lol. Even us old audio guys can learn new tricks! 🤘🤣 One last note, not sure if you know you can swipe up with your finger on the touchscreen to go back to the home page. This helps because you don't have to search through menus when you want to go back to the last page, because on the home screen you can just swipe down and it will take you to the last page you used! Maybe you already knew that. Just trying to share the love back for your help! We are all learning together! 😁 And your audio is absolutely killer! - Kevin Venture
That's awesome to know! I have a few condenser mics around but didn't bother testing them so I only tested the dynamic mics that I have and dived into with the Rodecaster Pro but I'm glad you made a new discovery for the audio world! 💯 I did later learn about the swipe feature on the board which makes navigating so much easier lol. So glad this video was a win for you! 😊
@@DianaGladneyThank you, it was a win! But I have looked further into it! Basically, the dynamic setting automatically goes back to 35, and the condenser to 18. So frustrating! Lol. But good to know! I think I may make a video on this to help people! I am starting a few new channels anyway. This channel is just camping and stuff I have done little with. But I do have a video on another channel that's about 12 years old when I showed the world what a microphone pop filter was, lol. That video is at like 360,000 views now! 🤘😁
I would dial back your noise gate a little as it's clipping your voice. Also try using a faster attack and slower release. You may also want to switch off the oral exciter and big bottom (they sound terrible) and use EQ instead. Last but not least be careful when using compression especially in an untreated room. One thing that would help improve your voice considerably, especially when using an SM7b would be to use an external channel strip and bypass the Rode signal chain all together.
Hey great video! I just got the rodecaster pro and I have been having a lot of problems with it. I have very similar settings to yours and my audio sounds kind of meh. But my main problem is how I hear myself in my earbuds or headphones. Do you have this problem? Like your own voice sounds like its coming out of a paper towel tube? I am not sure if my unit is defective or not.
No, I've never encountered that issue before or heard of it. Also, I'm not sure if you're using any kind of preamp with yours or tried with other types of headphones but it wouldn't hurt to reach out to Rode's customer service and ask them what they might recommend to help with that. Sorry I can't be of more help!
@@DianaGladney thank you for replying! Ya I reached out but they weren’t much help. I got a replacement and that one actually sounded a little better, but still not great. So I’m just going to return it.
One of the things that helped tremendously was getting the Fethead and using that. So, it's not just the Rodecaster Pro settings alone. Without the Fethead it sounds different. Master Compressor Settings for my audio and environment: Threshold -15dB Ratio: 3.0:1 Attack: 1ms Release 0.96s Gain 7dB
I was experiencing some weird cut offs from my noise gate that I didn't realize was actually being caused by my attack and release settings on my compressor being too tight
For people that dont have the money for sm7b. Try out Behringer XM8500. I got this mic and it sound soooooo good with the rodecaster. And cost 25 dollers.. you cant go wrong with Behringer XM8500 :)
Correct, mine is enabled and it is on to use the Fethead I have. You can know phantom power is enabled when you see the red dot over the microphone icon on the display of the Rodecaster Pro.
Im having a hard time with the echo coming from the rode caster while using ecamm. As I increase the level on the USB #5 line, I get more and more echo. Ive made the basic setting switches in ecamm to rode caster pro stereo as advised on another channel, but I still get a bit of latency type echo in my in ear monitors. I did turn on the mix minus setting and can't figure out where else it might be coming from. Do you have any ideas? Great point. It definitely matters what all you’re using and trying to connect and from there seeing what may be needed.
