I appreciate your comments on this unit on this video and the previous one. Looks like RODE is doing a great progress with this new unit. I'd be up for buying one if there would be full MIDI integration with Ableton Live, but seems like they are paying attention to other DAWs. Oh well, I might have to wait a bit longer but so far it seems like a great solution for many people on the audio field. Cheers!
Hi Mike, many thanks for your lovely videos. I look forward to a video in which you advise on the settings for the Røde Broadcaster. One of the many microphones for which Rode (of course) has made a preset in the Rodecaster Pro 2.
Dearest Mike, thank you for all the resources you put out there. You’re the man.
Question: how would you feed audio from the Rodecaster into an ATEM mini pro mic jack AND audio monitors? I’ve been suggested a line level splitter, but I’m still unsure. Anything that come up to your expert mind?
Cheers
Hi Mike, GREAT VIDEO! I have a ElectroVoice RE20 and I used basically the same settings that you did and when I hear myself on the mic, it sounds good. But when I record using Loom or QuickTime, it seems to come in a bit harsh. with a slight clipping sound at times throughout my recording. Is there anything that I need to readjust to ease back on? Also, could you do a video showing what would be the best settings for the RE20 and other mics, if you have time to do a video on that? Let me know, thanks!
You are a legend; solved so many of my issues. Thanks
Thank you for your kind words! I'm glad that my video was able to help solve some of your issues.
This is awesome, Mike, thank you! I run a SM7B through a MOTU M2 currently, and it's really good, but I'm expanding my content so upgrading to the RCP2 which arrives next week, will be testing these settings out!
Perfect timing Mike! Got my unit last week, finally pulling the trigger on an Amazon price drop after your review 👍
Hi Mike, thanks for putting this out, it's always great to see someone else's settings. My specific interest would be for the Neumann BCM 104. Cheers!
I can't wait to watch this later thanks
@@MikeRussell So after listening to the video it definitely sounds better than the first rodecaster video. I think the only thing missing is that sort of epic sound that comes from the bass you use to have in your old chain. I've heard they are going to ad a 5 band EQ at some point in an update so you'll probably be able to take it further in the future.
Love your tutorial. I have an issue setting up Procaster Pro II + Atem Mini Pro. Can't figuring out how to adjust the speaker volume (red & white cable from Podcaster Pro II into Blackmagic Atem mini pro mic jack input).... Please help!
Great stuff as always Mike! I’d love to see your suggested settings for the Neumann TLM - 103
Hey, since you already had the original Podcaster Pro, would your settings work the same/work just as well on the first Podcaster? I decided to get the first edition as I couldn’t justify the additional 200.
Also, could you someday do settings for Lewitt mics? 🙏
Hi great once more Mike.
I am anxious for the settings for the Blue Yeti
Tks a Lot
After seeing your other video in regards to the podmic and the presets I then found this one and tried the settings here with my Duo & podmic and it sounds incredible. Thank you so much 🙏
I can’t wait to record a show now 😂
I'm thrilled to hear that the settings I recommended for the RODECaster Pro 2 worked well with your Duo & podmic setup, and I'm glad you're excited to start recording your show!
@@MikeRussell Thanks Mike, Keep up the great work, Its sincerely appreciated 🙏😊
Hi, i just subscribe because I have so much to learn on this video, but I wonder what would be the best setting for my AKG c214 and shure sm7b.
Thank you very much. I would like settings for a Shure Beta 87C. I only use it for singing vocals. Thank you again.
Hi Mike. Great video. Here's another vote for showing settings for the Heil PR40. And for the Shure SM7B. Thanks!
Thank you very much, this was very helpful. VERY VERY helpful. Love the Rodecaster DUO. Works great! Now I need a quieter space bar, it's the only key that still registers on the mic LOL
I'm glad you found the video helpful and that you're enjoying your RODECaster Pro 2! Have you tried adjusting the mic sensitivity settings to reduce picking up the space bar noise?
This is great! Thank you for sharing. Love my Rodecaster Pro 2. Currently using it for sports play-by-play announcing. Wondering if you have any thoughts on possible setting adjustments for a Sennheiser HMD 26-II-600 broadcast headset microphone? Thanks again!
Hi Mike a set up w an AT2035 or SE2200a Mk II would be fab. My 2 mics of radio choice
How about settings for the Earthworks Ethos?
My microphone favorites are the RE320 and the MXL BCD-1. I'm sure the 320 is very similar to the RE20 which you have already done a video for so how about the BCD-1.
Thanks for your awesome video! I would like to see next the settings for the "Shure SM7b" or an Sennheiser MD441 - that would be awesome. Thank you!
WOW! You really took my advice and did this amazing video can’t wait to implement the settings and tweak them for my EV RE20 microphone. By the way, you might want to include in the title of this video the words “Microphone settings.“ I really wish you could do something for the EV RE20 though that would be even better. BUT, I love the way you explained everything and each setting in detail and what it actually does so I’ll be able to make custom adjustments for my RE20 Mic Thanks again for doing this greatly appreciated!
Hello Mike, thanks for all your tips. I,m looking forward to your advice on using the RODECaster Pro 2 with the Blue Yeti Pro (via XLR) I,m hearing a small background noise when I.m silent. (And also see that on the dB level when I select mic 1.) I used your settings from this video, but I still hear for example my mouse clicking or when I’m standing here my foot move. I need to play also a bit, because it is now quickly cutting my voice after I stop speaking. Looking forward to your movies and your advice.
I have a Heil PR40 - Thank for all the great videos
Thank you for watching! The Heil PR40 is a fantastic microphone choice, glad you're enjoying the videos!
Great stuff as always, Mike. Does anyone know if you can save these mic settings as a preset, or do you have to set them up anew every time?
Thank you for your effort Mike as i have connected my RODE podcaster pro II with my dbx 286 and shure 7b and the results was much better than using just the RODE podcaster pro II but i would like to see your next review with the shure 7B for sure...thank you so much Mike
Mike, great video, as always! Thank you. If you can, I would love to see a video with settings for the Electro-Voice RE320.
@@MikeRussell I too would like to suggest you cover the Electro-Voice RE 320
Love the sounds effects you use when transitioning to the rodcastor, would like a video on how to get some o those 😅
Please, Please do a video on the Ultimate settings for the Podmic with the RodCaster Pro 2. A lot of folks will be using that combination, so will be very helpful.
hiss-ter-ee-sis ;) Thanks for putting this out Mike, it's always great to see someone else's settings (and understanding the reasoning behind each.) Since you asked, I'd like to see how your settings would vary for mics like the Heil-PR40, Sennheiser MKH416, Neumann TLM103 and CAD E100sx. Also, are you saving each of these configurations as separate "Shows" in the RCP2 for easy switching/restoration of settings for each mic once dialed in to your liking, or doing that using some other method?
Thanks for the sounding out Jason. As always, appreciate your comments! At the moment I only have one 'show' so I'm still getting started with the full power of this at the moment. I'll surely use other shows as presets once I get different mics to use.
Audio-Technica AT2040 is what I am currently using and it seems like it becoming a very popular choice at the $100 price point, I preferred it over the RODE Podmic I would love to see you give it a go settings wise.
I would love to see your settings for the Lewitt LCT 440 Pure and the Heil PR40. Thanks!
Hello Mike, i will really appreciate if you can try a setting for Neumann BCM 104. I need for online radio. Thank you 🙏🏻
Hi Mike, I have enjoyed you Rodecaster Pro II review and set-up videos. I would like to see the Neumann TLM 103, The ElectroVoice RE 20 and the Shure KSM 32 mic setting in future videos. Thanks Rick B
Am I missing something, or can I not modify advanced presets after saving them?
Would love to see a follow up video with different mic's in the workflow. My specific interest would be for the Shure SM7B.
Blue Yeti, Mike are your using the blue yeti or blue yeti pro for the setting?
How about echo setting with we want to have the karaoke effect
Thank You Mike for the setting advice
Karaoke effect? You might want to play around with reverb settings to achieve that echoey sound.
I would like to see settings for the aston stealth
Thank you very much for your settings sharing... For my part... I'm always trying to find how to be loud but controlled for a real brodcast sound... For the moment I'm happy but sometimes I have some uncontrolled peaks (ratio 4.5:1 and attack 0.23ms), I hope one day thay will add a real limiter (it was I was doing with a Symetrix digital processor soft compression followed by a limiter).
Hi Mike, brilliant video. I've the PodMic & RCP2 and recorded as per your instructions. I'm recording for an audio book (my 3rd) and using Audacity. Without any post processing, it fails the ACX Check. Using your recommended setings (mic placement and 54dB), here's what it revealed verbatim: Peak level -12.70 dB Fail - (too low - may be overly compressed or too quiet); RMS level -33.70 dB Fail (too quiet - RMS must be in range -23 dB to -18 dB); Noise floor: -83.62 dB - Pass
In past I used Zoom H4n Pro and fixed everthing in post (a PITA). I was hoping PodMic + RCP2 would equal less post-processing and more control on input. When I tried to clean up this recording in post, a change to one element let it pass ACX, while making a preiously passed element fail. Kinda frustrating. Any wise words of wisdom? Thanks!
P.S. I noticed in the video you didn't have the Phantom (P48v) button on. Doesn't the PodMic require it? And funny how most of the comments are for non-PodMic setups!
Hi, you may have found this out already (comment was a while back), but PodMic is a dynamic mic so no need for phantom power. If you're using another interface that doesn't quite have the gain needed for PodMic, and are using a Cloudlifter or FetHead, then, yes, phantom power would be needed.
Hello Mike. Great video. I would love for you to do the EV RE20. Thank you.
Another excellent "Mike Russell" video. Would love to see your "best Settings" for the Blue YETI Pro mic. And........... if you are in a benevolent mood, any chance (if there is any value to) export your SHOW with these settings and make it available to non audiophiles such as I.
What settings do you implement for the master compressor?
That depends on what sound you want. Remember, better to use too little compression and add more in post processing rather than overcompressing at source
Anyway to adjust the EQ on the Rodecaster original? Thanks
Have a look at the videos on the Rodecaster Pro on the channel for a full feature review 👍
How about the Best Voice Setting to use with Sam's Broadcaster? I am struggling with the Gain on the Music and Voice. I am using the Rodecaster Pro II, Running Sam's Broadcaster. Thank you!
The settings in the video can give you a starting point for your voice settings and then you can balance the music levels
Very good video, copied all your settings and saved as... "Mike Russell" in the presets 🙂 THanks for the video - and I'm looking forward to you explaining the Output processing with the Master Compellor, there's a lot that can be changed and affect the overall audio going out . At the moment I leave it as it is..
Set it up for SE Dynacaster please....
i use a at2035 if you have any recommended setting it would be greatly appreciated i have watched some of your other videos and man is audio hard to figure out
Please remember the recommended settings are only guidelines and will always need some tweaking for every individual voice in every individual recording environment
Hi Mike, I was also curious of something else that's related to using the RCP2. Is there a way to directly connect your iPhone to the RCP2 to be able to record your livestream call, or are you just relegated to using bluetooth connection to make that happen. I ask this because using Bluetooth connection, at times there can be vocal delays where it can miss the first 1 or 2 seconds of the person speaking on the phone each time they speak from time to time. I was thinking using a USB C to Lighting cable I think would prevent that and get a cleaner and better recording. Let me know what you can please if there is some kind of workaround on this. Thank you.
There is no TRRS which means you wouldn't be able to have a two call conversation so I'd recommend using Bluetooth
@@MikeRussell thanks, I was just making sure. Too bad it doesn’t. I’ll just have to make do. Hopefully it’ll get better. Thanks again.
The sound recorded on my USB from the rodcaster has ver LOW volume despite your beautiful settings that sound well on my earphones. How may I fix this?
Drop a post in our community with details on your setup and settings community.musicradiocreative.com/
Mike great video, would be great to see some settings for the EV RE 27 N/D Microphone please. I been trying to ge everything set but still not satified with what I am hearing. Still getting back ground noise. So if you can do a video on the EV RE 27 N/D I would appreciate it. Thanks for all you do!
I'm a RE-27N/D user as well. Please Mike....a video would be greatly appreciated.
@@MikeRussell Thanks Mike, If you could do a video on the EV RE 27 N/D that would be awesome, I have it setup, but I just can't get that sound that I was gettig from my dbx 286s
Hi Mike, the only thing that is putting me off purchasing this unit is AUTO AUDIO DUCKING, as i do live radio i feel this is important, I know it has audio ducking but I belive that is on the xlr mic and not from the usb audio, so i would have to feed the audio into a seperate sound card then into the xlr or have I got that completly wrong
Part of the reason why I’m requesting microphone settings for the RE 20 is because there’s so many videos out there for the SM 7B but very little for the RE 20 and quite honestly the RE 20 is a more widely used microphone and it would be great if you could do that. Again thank you for whatever you can do!
What is the sense in not using a high pass filter on the way in, and preferring to do it in post, while applying the other effects on the way in? Why would you prefer such an aggressive de-ess and at the same time, boost your high shelf so much? Please help me understand your logic?
I find that applying certain effects like a high pass filter and de-essing in post allows for more flexibility and control during the editing process.
Sm7b! I have so many cables. But please use a cloud lifter if you can? I want to give it a fighting chance lol. I use mine with a dbx286, zedi10 and a cloud lifter. The signal is crystal clear and crispy af (as in warm crispy)Such a good mic when you run it hot! Cheers!
I've found neither the Rodecaster Pro II nor the dbx286s needed a cloudlifter for the Shure SM7B
@@MikeRussell oh my! That makes it an even more enticing buy. Thank you for letting us know. 😀
I am using the procaster mic, what are your optimised settings for that mic?
Where'd you get the black man on the couch? I don't have one of those yet.
@@MikeRussell the guy chomping ASMR style on the chips.
I just purchased the RCP2 and set my setting to mirror the ones you have in this video. The problem I’m having is my sound doesn’t sound nearly as clean as yours. But my biggest issue is my volume is not anywhere a loud as yours. How do I increase the volume of my recordings to the level you’re getting?
Remember the settings I'm recommending are for my voice in my environment. You will need to tweak them for your own situation
@@MikeRussell Thank you for the reply, Mike. I understand what you are saying, I wish I could better understand how to make those tweaks and adjustments. Do you offer a course or something on what the settings do and how to discern changes are being made. I would love that.
I'd love to see a video of how get the best sound setup with a Shure SM7B on a Rodecaster Pro 2!
If rode mic is connected to pro caster 2, can we get clean sounds, i mean sound without fan noise etc. Can i get rid of adobe audition
The microphone will record what the microphone hears. There shouldn’t be fans running in a recording environment.
The Blue Yeti is a USB microphone, and as far as I remember the Rødecaster Pro 2 doesn't work with those - or am I wrong? The Blue Yeti Pro has an additional XLR output, so that should work.
Can you please make a configuration for singers??
I'll definitely consider making a dedicated video on configuring the RODECaster Pro 2 for singers in the near future!
please i have hdm 27 senheiser u can help me for adjust a good audio settings please
Sure! For adjusting your Sennheiser HD 27 microphone, I recommend starting with setting your input gain to capture clear audio without clipping, experimenting with different EQ settings to find the best tone for your voice, and adjusting the distance and angle of the microphone to optimize sound quality. Hope this helps!
I've been playing with these setting and I am just not getting as good a sound as my DBX 286s. Maybe these will get me back in the ballpark. I would like for you to do the settings for a Shure MV7. Thanks so much for your help!
@@alpegadelima1680 But if you use it with the RCP2, won't it add noise? I was so excited when I got the RCP2, that I packed up my DBX-286s in order to sell it.
I don't think you need to use both together. If you use the DBX286s still then turn off the processing on the Rodecaster Pro II
I want Rode to create a wireless "on air" light that illuminates when you pot up the mic fader. You would only need to pair the light with the Rodecaster.
How do I get it so when someone is speaking in the main mic, the other mics/audio volumes are lowered. And then when someone stops speaking in the main mic, the other mics/media volume goes back to normal?
The first thing is correct mic placement, the second is correct level settings for each mic and third I have a video on using a noise gate if there is any mic bleed which will help you.
There's no automation that does what you're requesting, it's down to the operator to set it up correctly.
@@MikeRussell The effect is 'ducking'. I needed to tie it to one of the pads. Thanks for taking the time to answer :)
Rode NT-1a trying to figure out settings for it.
For the Rode NT-1A, I recommend starting with a neutral setting on your RODECaster Pro 2 with some light compression and EQ adjustments to enhance your voice while maintaining a natural sound.
Unsure if I left a comment already so sorry if it's the second: Can you please do Røde Procaster?
Noise always appears when I am speaking 😔Don't understand how to get rid of it
I recommend adjusting the noise gate and noise reduction settings on your RODECaster Pro 2 to help eliminate background noise while speaking.
@@MikeRussell It isn't background noise, it is like a white noise. The noise remains even when I unplug my microphone. Noise reduction doesn't work, because when I start speaking - the noise always appears behind my voice
