    The thing that helped me finally unlock the double push is: Letting the body move/fall to the outside while maintaining pressure to the inside while on the outside edge. The most important bit is MAINTAINING that pressure from start to end. Don't try to move the skate underneath yourself to catch you, that ruins it and you get no speed out of it. Engage that outside edge underneath your hip in a closed position, fully extend the inner pushing leg and keep applying that pressure to the inside as long as you can. The skate will catch you by itself as you do the recovery, just focus on maintaining that pressure to the inside and keeping stable against the skate. It feels like a very long, controlled movement and not just a push. You'll also feel like you're pushing with your whole body weight as you sway from side to side with your hips and shoulders.
    Tip: Learn to apply pressure using your core and glutes first (You need to stay low to activate glutes properly)

    No matter how many videos I watch on the double push, I just don't get it. I guess I need an actual coach. Crossovers though, I might try.

      I learned so much in a one hour session with an ice skating coach that I can only recommend that.
      For the double push you need to dare to skate on the outside edge of the leg you're standing on. Then it's all in the hips.

      I added a comment above that explains it or rather how I finally managed to understand it. Hope it helps. And as @ferryvantichelen6521 correctly states, you need to dare to skate on the outside edge, problem is truly understanding how it's done. Watch pro skaters almost fully extend that underpushing leg and keeping it that way before pushing to the side.
