The 19th century Russians (those still without class guilt) professed a dialectic between Don Quixote and Hamlet. I don't see a dialectic, so much as disgusting circumstance. They're basically the same guy, but I guess there's a reason they never made a musical Hamlet yet. Still, a more Quixote-ish Hamlet musical is I'm sure what Shakespeare was going after. And he is a lot better an author than Cervantes, few things being certain, but thanks be to gradation.

A decidedly brilliant performance for O'toole, and, while definitely miscast, an excellent one by Sophia Loren. Admittedly, this treatment was a jumbled representation of the Novel and the musical, but only an arrogant fool would see it as 'one of the worst films ever'.
