Agree. But a terrible singer. Aldonza's role is for an operatic voice. This is so sad. Joan Diener from the Broadway production should have done the role
@@karmenencendido9954 I do understand your point but being a singer myself, it's frustrating when gorgeous music is ruined (sorry no offense but that's how it feels) Marni Nixon ghost sang for Audrey Hepburn, Natalie Wood, Deborah Kerr and others without ever getting onscreen credit and by all accounts Hepburn and Wood insisted they could sing My Fair Lady and West Side Story themselves, which they could not. You can hear Hepburn doing "Moon River" in Breakfast at Tiffany's and it is pretty awful. I once sang "Somewhere" and "One Hand, One Heart" for a stage version of West Side Story - offstage and behind a screen. The producers decided they didn't want those two songs done by the non-singing Maria they had cast.
I honestly think it was brilliant to have these musically-untrained, amazing actors sing using their own voices. It doesn't make it nice to listen to, but as a movie it adds to the emotions of the characters. Dulcina is not a happy pretty character, so Sophia sounds exactly as Dulcinea realistically would - sad, cynical, and angry. Show me another actress who plays Dulcinea and spits literal fire the way Sophia Loren does (not saying she's better than others, but great in a different way... she played it the best way she could). This movie is so much better than the critics judged it to be.
I watched other actresses play aldonza on UA-cam and they don't even come close like Sofia Loren. They can sing, but they don't play the part like she could.
It's that orange cat whose feuding with Walter Matthau in Grumpier Old Men. Maria (aka the orange cat): Preferisco baciare il sedere di un alce morto! Max: What does that mean? Maria: It means "I rather kiss a dead moose's butt!" Max: (Flattered by that remark) Call me....?
Raquel Welch I saw this movie on Channel 11 watch growing up how is eating Italian Food Bazaar I was eating most of that I am the last baby boomer generation okay my dear I said my love to you I wish you the best White
Two great actors but it unfortunately fails as a musical due the obvious important factor of their singing voices although O’Toole somewhat less as he was dubbed. Having seen one of the original productions on stage, the film suffers greatly in comparison.
She’s so beautiful and a great actress!

@@verak66 I prefer this version over others. It may not be good opera - but the rawness and anger are unmistakable.

She was never more beautiful than as Aldonza.

I like the honest expression of the character Sofia played in this film.
S Loren is just amazing
One of my favourite songs from my favourite musical. I love it, thank you so much for sharing!
Underappreciated.
that’s a queen right there
Her acting is outstanding - nice rendition of this song!
Saw this film in 10th grade trip. Just amazing. Stayed in my heart xo
Theres something stirred by this song...My youth, and better days! Sadly, we realize; its all the same!
i wish i had her accent. jealous.

My mother had seven children. She lost (got rid of) EVERY man. She worked. She fed her children. She always worked.
If I could turn back time
Me Tooers will love this one!

too low voice
No, the voice is perfect for a prostitute!
It makes it all the more realistic
I prefer alto Aldonza. It’s far more believable than a soprano songbird imo.
