Those are great trucks built that year. Once you snag one of those you are basically set for life. Just buy crate motors and new or rebuilt transmissions and it's far cheaper and still a better built truck than the new in my opinion.
the tbi trucks from 88-95 were much more reliable and easier to work on, the vortecs had problems with the intakes and the interiors from 95-98 had problems with the climate control switches and the door handles. in 1994 they had the better rust protection than the 88-93's. so if you ask me i'd say 1994 is the best year to get one of these gmt400s
Great truck but keep an eye on the spider fuel injection system . If it shows signs of trouble like a code showing one bank running lean replace it and the regulator immediately. Failure to do so will cause it to bleed down and create a hydro lock. That happened to mine and it cracked the block. Replacement injection systems are better than stock. If your aware of this issue and correct it which I’d advise replacing it at 90,000 whether you have a code or not you’ll get great service out of it.
Where did you get all of the NEW GM parts? I am restoring my 97 stepside and would like it to look as original as possible. I know it's an old post but figured id ask.
I just bought a 1996 4x4 not Z71 it was for $2000 with 66000 miles truck is mint only needs some minor rust repair like cab corners but that’s expected with a 22 year old truck it’s green and I’m getting it painted black
Nolan Yanez people like you take a 300k mile truck, put ebay headlights and tail lights, Walmart wheels, and Kmart tires and 3 light bars and say your truck is clean. lol
Heavy Metal Automotive ....guys that is a sharp truck...my 98 is a beast...Love my truck...How long before you sold it ? And its non of my business, but what did she go for ????
This is my favorite generation of GMCs & Chevys
In my opinion the 98 is the one to snag if you can find a good one! These were the best built trucks of the generation!
Troy Taylor ....I Love my 98.....AWESOME....I feel so safe in my truck..Ol Red is my BABY...

I miss my 96 Z71 5.7, can’t find clean ones where I live. Solid trucks, with a great body style.

Damn, that's a pretty truck !!! Too bad you don't have a thousand of them in your back pocket to sell.

It's not expected in Georgia. If I lived up North, it would be worth a drive south to purchase a vehicle.
The best trucks
Mine 1998 Silverado 4x4 105,000 miles.
