Interesting.... and speaking of Mr. Laurel I have always thought that he was the brains who implemented Dance of the Cuckoos as their theme music but I have been unable to find that information.
Laurel and hardy paced their comedy a bit better. Sometimes the stooges was just one violent action after another. But laurel and hardy paced things very well and built up to the slapstick. Plus i think the dialogue was a bit wittier I love them both though. My faborite stooges movie was ants in the pantry.
Yes, agreed! Also, County Hospital, Busy Bodies, Towed in a Hole, and my favorite, The Music Box. Great medicine. Oliver looking straight into the camera whenever he got exasperated with Stan was inspired.
Their humor works so well because it’s REAL. As absurd and wacky as it is, it’s still real. Who wouldn’t struggle in a tight compartment like that? It’s so understandable and that adds to the hilarity! Train travel isn’t as common now as it was back then, but back in the 1930s, that bit with the train conductor who is impossible to understand must’ve also been so relatable to audiences.
It's one of my favorite early talkies they made. So simple, the train setting, and they do so much with it. I get a plethora of good laughs from The Boys.
My dad and I would watch these together on television back in the 60s. He would laugh so hard he’d be crying by the end. And so would I. These two were comedic greats.
This is one of the earliest Talking Pictures the Duo did together. They still had a few silent films after this, last of those due to the sound getting corrupted during the filming so it went silent film.
The more I rewatch these years later since I was a kid the more I realize Ralph and Ed from The Honeymooners are patterned off of L&H. They even have a HM episode similar to this one.
Since You Got BERTH MARKS 1929 on There Can You Do 2 Other Ones From That Episode like UNACCUSTOMED AS WE ARE 1929*TWICE TWO 1933 and Scrapbook of The Cast Member EDGAR KENNEDY? Thanks
They sort of re-did the opening scene of this one in the 2018 Stan & Ollie movie, where they're walking around the train station and keep missing each other.
I always felt the long undressing scene took too long. This short wasn’t as memorable to me. My favorite part though, is the conductor saying sarcastically “well, i bet you’re good” ha.
Just too daffy... Why couldn't Ollie take the lower bunk? And for starters, didn't they realize that Pottsville was only 10 minutes away? Why get undressed for bed at all? I guess that was all the basis for the comedic plot in those days, but I've seen much better from them.
Actually, Chaplin and Laurel worked for the same British vaudeville troupe and travelled together to New York in 1910 before both eventually migrated to Hollywood.
Little known fact Stan wrote the scripts for these funnies. These two are legends 😂

Oh yes, Stan Laurel was the brains of this operation. Writing, uncredited producing, even editing.

Thanks for posting. You’ve made my day 😅
I love these guys even more than the three stooges.
What if their were only two stooges? 😂
I love them both no comparison

Absolutely one of their funniest bits EVER!!

"Will you quit crowding me?" said Ollie, many many times.

I'd say that bit is still relatable with bad PA systems & drive-thru speakers lol

If you listen close, you can hear Stan trying to hold back his laughter during the (un)dressing scene saying 'I feel look like a mackerel.'
Thanks so much for this.
This was the first time The Dance of the CooCoos was heard. Thank You Marvin Hatley!
Proof that comedy can be funny without being filthy
☺👍Thanks
Love this, thank you for posting!❤
I can see why these guys were the best of friends.
Great entertainment. Thank you.
This is better than stupid reality shows family guy horrible cartoons and CNN
Railroad station in opening scenes is the old (1893 - 1939) La Grande Station which stood at Second Street and Santa Fe.
The funniest part is when Stan and Ollie try to get dressed in their upper berth on the train. Hilarious.

Best Comedy Ever !
Stan looked like a quail chasing after Ollie😅. One of my favorites.
Hard to believe this is almost 100 years old.

In Los Angeles when the Pacific Electric shared some lines with other railroads.
Nothing 'funny' about it, that's how it worked.

I think the mumbling conductor sabotaged them - he mentioned Pottsville last _after_ they asked/annoyed him for verification.
To me Charley Chaplin is not funny………..
