- Star Trek: Deception is a short fan-film being created by a group of friends whom all have one thing in common, a love of science fiction, namely Star Trek.
This film follows two Starfleet officers aboard a Danube Class Runabout, transporting a Klingon prisoner to a detention centre, only to be ambushed by a Klingon Bird of Prey that had been lying in wait.

It was such a pleasure to be able to work with my good friend Cory Watterson on the music for this film. Thanks for this wonderful opportunity.
Star Trek lives on youtube !!!!!
The Klingon was excellent, just like one off of the TV. Well done guys.
The Klingons was so on point in appearance and demeanor. I enjoyed the humor and the plot.
The best part by far was when the Excelsior class ship came in, I swear it gave me goose bumps. Now it is obvious that you guys are not pros or anything, but this entire thing screams effort, and that is what is important, I never felt like you guys were lazy on this, great job!
Thank you to all of our Kickstarter backers! This film wouldn't have been possible without your support!

Good work. I hope we'll see more.
I’m constantly being shocked by the quality of the special effects of these fan films. Exponentially, these effects seems to improve at ever increasing rates.
one of the best star trek fan fan films ive seen in a while
Glad you liked the film, we all put a lot of effort into this one! :D The dialogue volume has been the main critiscm, we'll have to work on that for the next one :p And if there were any problems with the acting, then the blame lies with the director :p
Visual effects were really good, and the Klingon Captain really sold his part well, my favourite part was the reaction to the loose tongue line because it ended this with a nice laugh.
Respects.
Excellent work all around. The acting was wonderful the graphics and CGI were top-notch.
A very nice production with a fine mix of acting, special effects and wonderful lead up to the reveal. The mentioned, 'official' mission was perfectly placed, and not overly stressed and made the appearance of the starfleet vessel at the end not a deus ex machina, but part of the cunning plan. Nice costumes, loved that era look, great sets and the cgi ships all around. Beautiful work and my hat is off to the cast and crew of this production. I hope you'll make more.
I have to say, this was certainly one of the better efforts I've seen to date... the acting was good enough to get the job done... not bad at all, but also not over-acted, either. I think both actors did a great job! Your color filter was spot-on... the colors of the uniforms were true and vibrant, and the Runabout cockpit set was extremely good for a short fanfilm like this... I also thought that the Klingon makeup was absolutely astounding, again, for a fanfilm... it was truly on the same level of quality as the Klingon makeups we saw on TNG and DS9... great job, all around! Please make some more!
So why was the security officer not privy to security matters? And wanting to give chase to a Bird of Prey in a Runabout?? Aside from these points, the security officer's inability to act convincingly this was quite entertaining and left me wanting more :)
This is WAY better than that Star Trek Renegades Of God and Men thing I just watched. Acting, animation, Klingons, everything. Good job
The set and costumes are great, too!
Gives you appreciation for how much work really goes into the films and t.v. episodes we love.
Wow! Very well done. I hope there's more....
Not a bad fan film. decent graphics and good story line.
Clever. And good FXs.
This is a very good short film ! Very well done ! Please make some more like this !
I LOVED the plot twist
Excellent job!!
very well done, I hope you guys make more of them
Excellent job! CBS may have the rights but you have the ingenuity and that's what counts!
Awesome Battle Scenes :)
the best homemade star trek i have seen so far... inteligent script, excellant set design, very good uniforms and good acting.. keep going
Terrific job, very glad to have been a supporter! Wonderful work. As I've always maintained, many short films are far superior than feature-length films.
Wow That Was Awesome i loved it hopefully we see more star trek deception. Job well done Gentlemen Make it so.
That general Karloff was awesome! Kablah!
Great acting, good effects and great set, story is quite ok too, my compliments
Almost forgot: the Klingon general really looked like a Klingon and, I don’t know if it was intentional, but reminded me a lot of Gowron.
Thanks for the nice comments! :)
I will be creating a Making-Of that will be available on the Kickstarter backers DVD, and at a later date released onto UA-cam, which should provide a more detailed insight into the making of this film.
But I can still answer your questions now, the programs we used were Maya, After Effects, and PremierePro for video, and the wood was bought from Wickes :)
As for tips, it depends, try not to rely on VFX too much, make what you can for real :D
Great work, proud to be a part of it
Congratulations guys. Way better then my expectations!
If possible please adjust background music level. In some part, I can hardly hear the dialogue compared to the music.
Thanks for the wonderful job again.
I cant believe this, it could literally be a new series
Top notch video and really intriguing story. I think that this is a great reminder that a production doesn't have to be long to be good and it really was enjoyable enough that I wanted to know more. Great job and please continue. There are a lot of good ideas to explore!
I guys, I recommend you get in touch with startrekrenegades . com as I'm sure they could use some great CGI and effects in their film that they are planning to pitch to Paramount as a Pilot for a new series. Also the "Deception" is well written, and the the sound effects are perfect! The room echo on the voices on our characters however, seemed to put me off a little, I'd suggest redubbing the voicing using the original actors where possible to remove the echo. The Klingon was great however!
Hey thanks to all the comments from the well wishers... And thanks for all the constructive comments from the others .... I will take them on board with the sequel... Although i dont think im too bad for a non professional actor :p much love ricky x oh p.s and thanks for comments from the racist folk on youtube land..signed - black guy from star trek.deception...
Cheers mate! The shorter sequences took maybe 3 days to render out, the opening sequence took considerably longer :p
We just wanted to pay homage to our favourite tv series, we hope we've done it justice :)
The music is a little loud compared to the dialogue. But, otherwise, this is EXCELLENT!
Very well done, great effort to portray Star Trek under the current gudilines. Crew stories can be built around many crew sets. A year in the life of a ship could be done again and again. Thank you so much for your efforts.
Well done! The shorter format was perfect; the costumes and backgrounds superb and the acting was good.
wait, this is five years old? we need more, I hope the big money cameras hire your crew FAST! they need you
Well done. A fine little adventure. The only nit I have is back-lighting the non-command panels to give the appearance that they are operational.
Very good for a fan made film
Sweet film.
MAN I'll give you guys a 9.5 out of ten only cause I felt it was a bit exposition heavy at the beginning but everything else acting effects and everything was just amazing
Well done ! I was THERE - the intended result, I'm sure. The presence of the other ship in the forward viewports and the excellent Klingon characterizations, along with the interior and exterior contexts AND the brief glance at the runabout from the Klingon viewscreen really added well to the illusion ! WELL DONE !
You need a part two! 👍🏻
Part 2 is online now.
I'm with all of the other positive fan comments, Enjoyed it and would like to see more. thank you for bring this to us, and for your work in making this so.
Damn! this was good. To the point, great special effect, Fairly good acting, nice video.
This is awesome!!!
I love this video, especially the detail of the ships!
Stellar Work!
Well done.
Very nice video. Thanks to all involved.
This is very well done, especially the space scenes! And well, of course these guys are not professional actors but I think they did a pretty good job. This video was most entertaining and I enjoyed watching it. Isn't that what's it all about? So thank you for your efforts. Very good!
Qapla' from the Gates of So-vo-kor!
Well done, Maj ram
WOW WELL DONE!
Please make more. The acting and the script was hilarious.
This was great. Thanks!
I was expecting it slightly longer, but you guys did a great job with the video. I'm so glad to have given so much to make this happen. Q'apla!
(Not to mention free promotion for the adventure game movement on Kickstarter)
This was beautiful! You guys created a great film, very interesting and those shots were wonderful. great job :)
Cheers man! :D
Nice. A few places the music made it hard to hear to dialogue... but excellent first effort overall.
Good job
Great Job Best investment on Kickstarter so far
we want more of this fan film
Great job and I am proud to have been a Kickstarter backer on this project!
Awesome work on Star Trek: Deception.
I'm watching this before the recently released part 2. I have to say, this was really fun! You made the most of the limited sets, the characters were believable and well acted, the ship effects were gorgeous! I particularly liked how the BOP took damage from the USS Longshanks.
And familiar British accents all round! :-)
That Klingon was a DOPPLEGANGER of Martok of DS9!! 😲😲😲
That acting lol. Also why no ambient sounds on the shuttle?
Well done and congrats from the team at Star Trek: Intrepid. :)
Wow, that one was awesome!
Would rather watch this than the Abrams Kurtzman interpretations of Star Trek. Nicely done!
For a Star Trek fan film it was good!
well done!
Not too shabby at all. Excellent work! It was really nice to see a TNG/DS9 era production.
at 5.47 he says "Ji'yaj" which means "I understand"... the actual word for Fire is "BaH!"
I am a really big fan of Star Trek & was a totally amazing video
Awesome short film. You guys did a great job.
That was great
Very well done, especially the Klingon makeup... better than other fan projects I've seen with much better funding.
They did a really good job
Excellent work for a short subject, definitely want to see more!
I find it amazing that fans are able to produce quality effects like this. Does it take long to render the cgi effects?
I like Star Trek, not to the point of obsession or even hobby, but it's an enjoyable program.
Thanks! I use Blender for my Spaceship. Its not so professional but sufficiently for me. Your Greenscreen-Effects are very good. I thought it was real!
The cgi looks great
This is awesome!!!!!
Klingon makeup was the best part.
Well done chaps. not to shabby at all.
Note:
A key but overlooked component of fan films is the audio.
ADR is time consuming but can compensate for spotty location audio. A good dialog/effects/incidental music mix is critical.
This could be a tv series or web series
Make More!!
Great job....Felt like an episode of Deep Space Nine or Next Generation.
Very smooth with CGI, audio and overall story.
Only con was the Star Fleet vessels were of different era's and didn't mesh for me..
Intro of a starship being attacked, was a tad confusing.
Good job! I used to make a fanfilm series called Star Track, took a comedic approach.
Hi from everyone at 'A Tale of Two Galaxies'! I recognise that Klingon! Shouldn't he be a Dahar Master by now? Great to see another Brit fan film! Nice job!
Pretty good special effects!
nice movie i can watch star trek every day it cool me down ''ralph cesar''
good! Only the audio and microphones seem a little crappy but for a fan film, quite allright!
Cool. Improvements to be made: Make the voice softer but still clear to sound like they are in a smallish shuttle instead of in a large empty room. Make the background music not so loud in order to not overtake the speaking.
