  • This week, we are using some easy color-blocking techniques for mixed-media collage.
    Color-blocking or underpainting can help guide you when creating a collage. It’s excellent to use when your subject has different values, and you want to maintain them.
    This color-blocking technique is as perfect for beginner mixed media artists as it is for old pros.
    Enjoy!

    ⭐Best Viewing Experience for YOU ⭐
    Every creative person has different needs. Here are the different ways to enjoy my videos.
    - Some enjoy hearing me explain my process. If that’s you, make sure your volume is on.
    Others prefer to read my process through the closed-caption subtitles. If that’s you, turn on the CC at the bottom right of the video.
    - Some don’t want to hear my voice at all (that’s ok 😀). If that’s you, turn the volume off and watch.
    I have had every video electronically translated through close captioned subtitles into 20+ different languages to reach and connect with as many people as possible. Sometimes, there are spelling or grammatical errors. As AI improves, I hope the translations do as well. If your language is not represented, please let me know.

    I became very anxious when you showed the drawings. Uggh my drawing has gone by the wayside. Then my insides started to relax and I felt better when you said "You can do this." I said OK I can. Thank you for your encouragement at just the right time! These pieces are very interesting and I look forward to seeing the the next steps in these collages. As always many thanks.

    Oh wow!! I'm only a few minutes into this video, and I'm already excited! Will you please show how you print on the medical exam paper? With 12 rolls, the more I can do with it the better! 😊 I also don't care for drawing in a traditional way. Although I enjoy painting big silly flowers and trees and things. But adding images without having to draw them all first would be fabulous! I can reuse my own images in so many different ways by printing on the exam paper.

    I believe you are correct about the water causing the outlining. The water is saturating the paper without giving it a base to be suspended in. My first collage teacher had us wet everything first before we glued it down. After the class I did not do this and was much happier with the results. The teacher felt it allowed the papers to relax and lay flatter. I felt it took something away from the character of the papers. It still serves its purpose in some situations but like most things you need to experiment and weigh the results for yourself. 😊

    • @PaintedPaperStudio
      @PaintedPaperStudio  2 місяці тому +3

      That's interesting, Susan. I use the water when collaging certain types of paper because I think it really does lay down flatter, but with other papers it looks like my finger tips after a long bath. The medical exam paper needs the water to go "transparent" but it didn't need nearly as much as I put on. Just another thing to experiment with 😀

And thank you for the brilliant recommendation on the medical exam paper - I love using it for all sorts of things now, and I passed the suggestion onto Marabeth Quinn, who just painted with it on her channel. • @PaintedPaperStudio
      @PaintedPaperStudio  2 місяці тому +1

      Thanks for reaching out, Donna. You have options here. If you are going to try to fill the cavern with collage, make sure you wait until all the layer are completely dry before you sand - that may take a day or two depending on deep the cavern is. As an alternative, you could use a compound medium (like modeling paste or heavy gel medium) to fill in, and then go over it with a layer of collage once it's dry. I hope this helps 🥰
