Mixed Media Collage Demonstration - Art For The Kitchen
Вставка
- Опубліковано 28 вер 2024
- This week, I am sharing a mixed-media collage demonstration as the next step in the series of small paintings I’m doing for my kitchen. This series has affectionately become known as the “Salsa Series,” and I love that!
I’ll demonstrate a few different ways I apply collage with mixed media materials and share my artistic process and thought process as I create.
This video has far less talking than other videos - I hope that you'll focus more on what I'm doing, not what I'm saying, plus it's kind of meditative 😀.
Join me in this fun and relaxing collage video.

⭐Best Viewing Experience for YOU ⭐
Every creative person has different needs. Here are the different ways to enjoy these videos.
- Some enjoy hearing me explain my process. If that’s you, make sure your volume is on.
Others prefer to read my process through the closed-caption subtitles. If that’s you, turn on the CC at the bottom right of the video.
- Some don’t want to hear my voice at all (that’s ok 😀). If that’s you, turn the volume off and watch.
I have had every video electronically translated through close captioned subtitles into 39 different languages to be able to reach and connect with as many people as possible. If your language is not represented, please let me know.
Note: at this time, I do not have the ability to have my emails translated. If you sign up for my mailing list, you will receive mail from me in English.

Fascinating. And may I say, if you ever tire of art (as if!), you can have a great career in film production. What a professional quality video, and the care you took on using different angles-!
Thank you for saying that, Nabby - it's quite a bit of work, but it makes me happy to be able to share different perspectives. 🥰
These panels are really coming together beautifully, Jackie! Thanks for not editing out all of the sticky glue fingers and dealing with itty bitty pieces of collage! It really shows those of us who haven't made many collages (with the million Gelli prints stacked up all over the studio!) see the full process and just how much "work" it takes to make a beautiful collage come to life! Waiting impatiently for the big reveal next Saturday!! xoxoxo
OMGosh Deanna - the sticky fingers! For days I found little patches of dried medium on my hands and arms 😳. Collage can be a lot of work, but I feel that it's more like a puzzle - you lose yourself in it, and that's dreamy! You won't have to wait long 🥰
@@PaintedPaperStudio I could tell you were in a state of messy bliss while collaging those pieces! I ned to go through ALL my collage stash, (perhaps stash isn't the right word, as it implies "Hidden" and mine are all over the place!) and get rid of myriad papers I'll never use, save the "good" or interesting ones, and start a collage soon! You've inspired me (but I might have to wear gloves : ))))
@@deannahall2032 Do you have a shredder? If you do, shred the papers you don't want to keep and use them as package filler when you ship things - your friends will LOVE it!
@@PaintedPaperStudio What a fabulous idea,, Jackie!! Yes, I have a shredder so I'll put it to great use!!
And layer a layer you built not only an abstract collage but a world of possibilities. Thanks for share your process ❤
Thank you Susan - that's exactly how I feel about it - a world of possibilities. Thank you for being here 🥰
I absolutely LOVE YOUR WORK. I’ve been taking art classes for 7 years now. Primary pastel. I enjoy but don’t really feel very creative. I have always loved collage but didn’t understand the process. I asked my teacher to show me how to collage and create one. She was helpful and I’ve made 4 since last year. I actually think it’s more mixed media than collage. I found your channel because I really wanted to learn the technique. I watch and rewatch! You are teaching me SO MUCH and I’m little by little trying to create my own style. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and your amazing talent! I am such a fan!
Hi Jimmy! Thank you very much for your kind words and I am so happy that this video was helpful for you. I think it's so much fun to learn new techniques. I don't always collage, but when I do, I love it. So happy you're here! 🥰
Love your old Vizsla. After 15 1/2 years of pure joy and Hiking our Vizsla Danny is in heaven. 🧡🧡🧡
I'm so very sorry, Eileen - but what a good boy to stay with you for 15 1/2 years. 🥰 I hope we are that lucky! 🥰
Tons of exercise daily. 🩷E
I love your moments of giddiness!! I have those too....creating art and joy go together!!❤
Perfectly said, Elaine - "moments of giddiness." I'm so glad you get them too. I think it's like aerobics for artists 😂🥰

Oh how i enjoyed this. Its so great having the painted objects to go by with colors.
Grand idea Jackie 🏆
Thank you, Candace - it keeps me safe and sane 😂 Thank you for always being so encouraging! 🥰
What a great result! These are took amazing in your kitchen. 😍
Thank you, Trina - I'm getting excited to finish them and put them up! 🥰
Hello Jackie, what a lovely sunday afternoon i m spending with you (like if you where my pal😅)...great work, thanks i m on my way to copycat!...I learned a new word from the comments "giddiness" .. a state of exitable frivolity...yeah!!! Just what i feel when grooving on your great electro chill music 👍👍👏👏 🎉😚Do in 🗼👋
Do - next time I'm in Paris we will hang out on a Sunday afternoon! And yes, giddiness is a fabulous word! 🥰

Fantastic Jackie! Are you spraying the tissue papers or just the medical exam paper?
Hi Bonnie - I sprayed bot the tissue papers and the medical exam papers 🥰
So fun Jackie, those are fabulous but......torture we have to wait a week!! :)
Until this series, Denise, I never knew I could be such a tease! 😂🥰
All those beautiful papers forever SENDS me!!!😂
Beautiful!
Thank you, lovely! 🥰
Also, do you apply matte medium or varnish. when you are done to protect it?
Hi Bonnie - great question and I am covering it in next week's video. You can use either, but I'll show you what I use, how I use it (process), and why I use it. I hope you'll watch it. 🥰
what are you spraying on collage papers before adhereing them? & what does thagt do?
Hi Cynthia! I'm spraying water on some of the papers - it helps to relax the paper fibers so they are more flexible when placing them, and water helps to make some papers more translucent and transparent. 🥰
Can you explain the rationale for using such small peices of torn paper instead of larger pieces...
Sure Margie! The first reason is that the wood panels are very small - only 6" x 6". The second reason is that by using a lot of smaller papers I have much more freedom and flexibility in developing the shape, tone and value of each piece. And the third reason is that using a lot of small pieces creates a textural effect that I adore. 🥰
L ove it. Do you show anywhere, galleries or anywhere else
Hi Nereida, thank you for watching. At this time I am not showing my work any place other than here on UA-cam. As soon as I do start showing/selling again, I'll let know 🥰
Salsa, baby! Yeah 😀! Yummy yummy YUMMY! Such wonderful painterly effects you've created with your patient and skillful hands! Impressionism vibes❤!
Just a tiny idea from me and it's really just an idea: maybe some more close-ups? I love the very first steps when working on the tomatoe and would have loved to dive into the process. More close-ups would have helped me. But it's just me.
The avocado even looks yummier than before! Didn't know that this could be possible!
Aloha from Berlin ❤️🧡💛💚💜
Love it, Queen - I'm so happy you enjoyed it! The camera placement is a constant struggle, but I try to make improvements with each video. I'll try to get closer more frequently. Thank you for always having such lovely and helpful things to say 🥰
You're very welcome, Jackie! Have a great week! 🧡💚
Is there a place on Amazon we can see all of your recommended products that you list in your videos? It would be great to shop in one 'store' instead of going back through the video descriptions looking for individual items. Keep up the good works. I love your teaching style!
Valerie - I wish I could make that happen. Amazon has an application process to have a "storefront" and I have yet to be granted permission (so frustrating!) The good news is I'm not waiting for Amazon, and building my own 'storefront' on my website that will go live in October. 🥰
@@PaintedPaperStudio I look forward to each of your new videos. Now I can look forward to your next adventure. Hurrah!
@@PaintedPaperStudio. Besides being a technique junkie, I’m a dedicated tool junkie, so I always appreciate it when people list the supplies they use, and especially when there is an Amazon link. Thank you so much. (I didn’t realize silicone brushes could be bought in sets-just picked your set up.)
You are brilliant, Jackie! You nailed that avocado with your last paper!❤ What a gorgeous set of collage.
Thank you, Barabara! I love that the "pebbled" paper worked for the avocado skin. Next week I'll show it super up close 🥰
It has certainly paid off making all of the painted.papers as you have created 2 wonderful collages for your kitchen. It would be lovely to see a photo of them on your wall🙂🙂🙂👍👍👍
Hi Andrea, if you are here next week you'll get to see that! There is still a little more to do, small things mostly and a couple of big things before I can say "they're done." I hope you'll get to see it. 🥰
Thanks Jackie. I’m thoroughly enjoying this series. It’s so interesting to see your processes. I was wondering if it’s necessary to spray the paper with water before applying it to the canvas? Would it wrinkle too much if you didn’t?
Hi Gina, thank you - I'm happy you are enjoying the series 😀 To answer your question, some papers will wrinkle quite a bit if they are applied, and other won't wrinkle at all (paper is fickle 😂) The best way to know is to test the papers you use most and see what happens. In this video, the only papers I sprayed were intended to go translucent. I hope this helps. 🥰
Thanks so much for not speeding up the video! Your editing makes it "easy on the eye" and it's so nice to just hang out with you and watch you work on these awesome pieces 🥰
That is such a lovely thing to say, Christina! I enjoy hanging out with you, too 😀🥰
Hey, Jackie - are you spraying some of your collage pieces with water before applying them?
Hi Becky! Yes, I am spritzing some of the papers with water to help relax the paper fibers and to assist in the transparency effect. Thank you for watching and taking the time to ask a question. 🥰
Well now I wish I had all it takes to eat mexican!!!😂 Lovely work as usual Jackie!
I know, I've had tacos on my brain all week! 🥰
Loved watching this take shape... but I wonder if you're going to do anything with what appears to be an eye glancing off to the side up there on top of the heirloom tomato?
Good "eye" Diane! I suppose you will have to wait until next week * wink * * wink * 🥰
OHEMGEE!! Stunning work. So dimensional and vibrant! I enjoyed the "look at this!" glances you gave the camera😍 Yep, I was excited right there with you!
Thank you very much, Elle. Sometimes (most times) I cannot contain my excitement 😂. Thank you for watching and taking the time to let me know what you think. 🥰
Why with onion, didn’t you put a coat of paste over whole surface first?
Hi Judith, there wasn't a specific reason - I just wanted to show different ways of approaching collage. Hope that helps. 🥰
Plus supply name or link to earlier sessions of this series.
Hi Judith - all supplies and past videos in the series are linked to in the description below the video.
❤ love them
Thank you, Ana Paula!
These are going to be fabulous!❤
Hi Cindy - thank you! 🥰
How do you know when it’s finished?
Hi Gidge - I just sent an email out last week about this very subject. The short answer in: I know when it's done when I feel it. It is literally a physical feeling I have when I'm done. If you're on the mailing list you may have it in your inbox. 🥰
Hi Jackie, this was a meditation for me too, watching you meditate every little scrap to become a part of the tomatonionavocado. Brought every vegetable to a very special lively expression. Have a wonderful week, Britta
Thank you, Britta - this has been such a fun series to film. Each step gave me something new and interesting to reflect on. Thank so much for being here, and I hope things have warmed up! 🥰
@@PaintedPaperStudio Thank you Jackie 😘 There is a lot of damage - but also hope. Many plants survived. And now we have summer again. 🪴🌼🌻
✨💖✨ LOVE this series! Are you gonna celebrate WORLD COLLAGE DAY on May 11th?
I didn't even know this was a thing - but I'm going to have to observe it in some way. Thank you so much for telling me, Alice! 😍🥰
@@PaintedPaperStudio It's a Kolaj Institute thing. Google them 😀

This series has just been wonderful.
Thank you, Dawn. I'm so happy you're enjoying it! 🥰
Can't wait for the conclusion to this series. Fantastic.
Thank you, Julie 🥰
This series has been so much fun to watch and you taught us so much. Loving it!
Thank you, Heather! 🥰
It's fun to watch you play with value as you collage over this!
Thank you, Lori. I find working this way on collage to be meditative. 🥰
I love the whole start to finish of a project!
That's great feedback, Donna! I'm sure we'll do more in the future. 🥰
This was so much fun! Truly enjoyable! Inspired me to get the big box of papers out and just glue them onto something. They're tired of being in the box 😂
Set your papers free! 🥰 Thank you for watching, Joan! 🥰
