This proves that we don't need a remake of Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs This is the perfect retelling of Walt Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs on stage
Wow the caliber back in the day! Real horse, real tenor prince, real evil queen, amazing transformation scene with male old hag amazing, adorable animals, charming extra score orchestrations and to top it off: A REAL HIGH SOPRANO WITH WARMTH AND ALL THE MAGICAL COLORATURA. This production could use a bit more vividness in the costumes but it is amazing in quality in the singing and acting. it recreates the cartoon but with none of the overplayed squeezed childish voicing one hears in all the Disney stage shows. "Someday my prince will come", was done so well it brought tears. And the Prince's "One Heart" was gorgeous. I adored this production as a child. It still stands up.
One of the most impressive things about this show is that I don't think they're using mics, all in that projection, sets, acting, Everything is amazing
can we just appreciate the King being so open minded about the Prince falling in love with a "commoner" and saying how nice it is rather than mocking him for it?
After seeing the leaked behind-the-scenes photos for the upcoming live-action remake of "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs". This will be the true remake of Snow White in my eyes!
Snow White in this version is so perfect. And I dare say it: better in character than the original movie. Also Dopey in this is on point. Even with a mask on that limits his facial expressions, his quirkiness and slapstick movements makes up for it and it definitely shows. And that curtain call gave me wonderful goosebumps.
I agree 100%! I begin to geek out and start crying when dopey said his first words at the end of the show. As much as I like the original film, I think I like this version better.
@@gklakamp2888 sorry but this is garbage compared to the original. The original had much more emotion and originality. In the end this is just a pathetic copy. And her voice doesn't even sound VLOSE to Snow Whites. 2/10
@@tikitorchgamin1842 The silvery, childlike style of singing Adriana Caselotti used for the movie would have been much too light to carry a production of this scale, over a full orchestra, in such a large venue. I love the relationship between Snow White and her father. It reminds me of my relationship with my Daddy because he and I are really close just like the King and Princess Snow White.
This is the only Snow White theatre production I've seen. Disney should open a new production for this... A timeless tale and Walt's pride and hardwork. The actress is beautiful and perfect as Snow White... Her voice sounds better than the animation...
I imagine this is how it must have been during the early stagings of Peter Pan when Tink was about to die and the audience was asked to join in the "I do believe in fairies" chant. But, you can tell the hag scared the hell out of the kids because you can hear screams during some of the earlier scenes and I can't really blame them because the witch is even creepier in the stage version than the original movie. I would have been crying too if I saw this as a kid lol
Reminds me of when I supervised a school visit to a performance of a play based on Robin Hood: When Will Scarlet had a choice to shoot Robin or the sheriff, one of the kids yelled, “SHOOT THE BAD GUY!” and then all the kids began shouting. I was laughing my head off.

I worked at Radio City Music Hall during this time and have fond memories of this production. I remember rehearsals with the dwarves out of costume. It was brutal for them to perform in those heavy masks. The cast got along really well. It was like family. But I also remember a LOT of kids getting freaked out by the evil Queen!
This show marks one of the few times Dopey has ever spoke; in this stage show/special, his first words are "Goodbye, Snow White!" and he later has another line when he and the Dwarfs decide to plan a wedding for Snow White and the Prince ("Ready!").

I have not seen this since I was a kid, with my siblings. Until the cassette tape stop working. My mother had record it off of TV in the early 80's. I had no idea that this came out the same year my older sister was born. This brought back so many memories.

So cool to see this again! I remember being fascinated by the Queen's transformation as a kid and wondering how they did it. Now that I work in theatre, I totally see. The only thing she physically adds to the glass is a little water to activate the dry ice so that the glass smokes. (But just a little so it doesn't accidentally splash her lips) Then the reveal of the white hair begins the transformation before she's obscured by smoke and the witch changes places with her. It's simple, but it's great.

WOW! What an amazing & spectacular production. I'm 52yrs, but this show made me feel like a little kid again. Watching such a magical as this, I found myself thinking, "Hey Disney! What in hell have you done to yourself between 1980 to present day?" Don't bother answering that, because I already know. You've been puking out all of those cookie cutter stage productions of your movies, and keep this wonderful show buried under all of your new crap! Is it the fact that this show has no foul language or obscene parts like all of your other shows? They need to do a revival on Broadway, because this would pack the house for it's entire run.
the only thing that really bothers me in new disney is the occasional GROSS joke (at least one in each animated film now and sometimes live action and every disney channel sitcom pee, poo, fart, burp, bad smells .... please disney, BE DISNEY, stop trying to imitate other studios "see? see? the dog peed on the carpet see? we can do it too, we re grown now '" thanks for sharing this !!!! snow white is eliminated (little by little) from princess merchandize, but she ll always be the fairest one of all

I wouldn't call The Lion King or even Beauty and the Beast typical cookie cutter crap. Those shows are outstanding a revolutionary in many ways. Frozen is really the only dull and cookie cutter show they have released. And foul language? Where? I've never heard any foul language or even seen anything obscene in any of their productions... Not sure what shows you watched.

I get to share this with my 8 and 10 year old little girls now, and turns out they love it. Proud mom ☺️! Blessings to you in 2023!
That "I'm wishing" performance was amazing
Yes. And a real horse!!
HBO showed this when I was a kid and I loved it! Thanks for the memories!
that is the Most greatest disney Live Stage Show Ive ever Seen that was Great i Love what you guys did to thè disney Live Stage Show
I was 3 and 1/2 when this was on Broadway. I remember watching this on video in my neighbor's basement. I believe I was 4 or 5 when I saw this. I remember being scared of the mirror but still love this to this day! I sure miss the 1980s!
I have not seen this since I was a kid, with my siblings. Until the cassette tape stop working. My mother had record it off of TV in the early 80's. I had no idea that this came out the same year my older sister was born. This brought back so many memories.
the queens face when the king says snow white is beautiful. Jesus if looks could kill.
If they do a live action Snow White movie, this stage play is a good basis to flesh out the material.
They are doing one, and I totally agree!
Joe DeSena actually they’re doing 2. One is going to give Snow White a sister named Rose Red who helps the dwarves save Snow White.
Thats true. This does actually feel like a good remake of the original film.
They are and it looks like a trainwreck. A not-exactly-white Snow White, no dwarfs, wokeness everywhere.
@@joedesena5402 Well I’m not watching it,
But I hope Corey Burton voices the magic mirror like he did in Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep.
I grew up watching this recoded on a VHS tape, over and over again; as children do. Thought I would never see it again.
- While she's picking wild flowers, YOU WILL KILL HER !
- But your Majesty...
- SILENCE !
- The little princess...
- SILENCE ! You know the penalty if you should fail me !
- Death.
- Worse... Much worse...
So scary !
- While she's picking wild flowers, YOU WILL KILL HER ! - But your Majesty... - SILENCE ! - The little princess...
Snow White Live went to dark places. lol
I think the Huntsman should only be loyal to Snow White's father, the King
that is the best disney broadway musical show ever ive ever seen and wow that was great way super great I love it
I totally agree
Did they have permission from Disney, since it is not in Disney land
I love ❤️ this version, so happy to see 👀 this again after all these years
I remember show when cable first came out my sister and I would watch it every time I was on.I love this reminds me so much of my childhood thank you four downloading it.
So cool to see this again!
I remember being fascinated by the Queen's transformation as a kid and wondering how they did it. Now that I work in theatre, I totally see. The only thing she physically adds to the glass is a little water to activate the dry ice so that the glass smokes. (But just a little so it doesn't accidentally splash her lips)
Then the reveal of the white hair begins the transformation before she's obscured by smoke and the witch changes places with her. It's simple, but it's great.
In Fantasmic, the witch hides in the cauldron then they switch places. So that might be part of it!
@@mollycblaeserbut for the broadway show how did the evil queen even get off stages before the smoke even cleared.
@@mpnielsen1 okay, so the set piece with the spell stuff comes up with the hag under the table. They switch & the evil queen exits with the set piece when it goes back down.
@@mollycblaeser and the queen just stays backstage until the curtain call
@@mpnielsen1 yep!
I swear to God I saw this on VHS tape in the early 1980s when I was very young. I cant believe I found this on youtube somehow. Dear lord the queen scared the living shit out of me!! Thank you to whoever uploaded this. Now Im about to watch again for the first time in over 35 years!
Fantastic performance by every one in the cast !
Exactly
I don't know why I started crying when I heard kids screaming : no no no ! kids are just so innocent
Fantastic performances and production! I wish this was on bluray.
Or On Disney +
Kory Bug Burkett: Yeah, on Disney Plus
Thanks for this! In the early eighties HBO use to show this on Christmas Eve. My cousins and I watched it in amazement.
I had this on vhs for years and my abusive bed got mad at me and broke it right!! this movie means so much to me!!
HO-LY CRAP!!!! I saw this broadcast on HBO back in 1980 when I was only 9 years old!!!! Wow!!! And I remember how brilliant it was back then and it still is today!! I am SO glad I found this!!!!! I am saving it to my playlist! Thank you so much for making this video available for us to once again enjoy!!!!
Thank you so much for sharing this! It's crazy but I remember seeing this in person...cheez I was young enough to be terrified by many of the scenes. Great memories. Amazing the wonderful power a simply sharing of an old VHS. Thank you for making my day brighter.
This was beautiful! I hope the live action remake is just like this.

I haven't seen this in ages, but I am very impressed with how good the animal costumes are. The bunnies especially!!
I remember this I saw many years ago, back in the 80's it was pretty good.
Used to watch this on repeat when I was a small kid. Mom had it recorded on vhs. For some reason, thought of it the other day and googled. Happy I did. Thanks.
Thank you so much for uploading this rare gem. I feel like a little kid again.
What a old theater 🎭
Oh man, the scene where the Mirror is throwing shade, the Queen is just fantastic!! Scenery, consider yourself CHEWED!!
I never knew this existed I am glad it's here for me to watch thanks for posting this
Ditto❣
Brooke Bosse me to now okay!? Bye love lynton
I remember watching this on HBO when I was a kid. No one besides me remembered it so I thought I had imagined the play. I’m so glad I didn’t imagine it and it’s on UA-cam so I can watch it again. 😁
Yeah and HBO sheak preview was after this special.
I have the movie on VHS and the two disc DVD! It's a cool movie!
That is a different version ;) but yes the original animated classic is superb.
Alex Rolleston no
I used to watch this play on VHS on my grandparents house back when I was a kid! So many beautiful memories from those days!
Omg I grew up to watching this one was my favorites
I watched this when I was a kid via VHS from my sister. Can't believe I manage to find it these days.
Snow White is fantastic! ❤
Absolutely!
while I agree that they don't make 'em like this anymore, what shows have "foul language" or "obscene parts?"
the only thing that really bothers me in new disney is the occasional GROSS joke (at least one in each animated film now and sometimes live action and every disney channel sitcom
pee, poo, fart, burp, bad smells ....
please disney, BE DISNEY, stop trying to imitate other studios "see? see? the dog peed on the carpet see? we can do it too, we re grown now '"
thanks for sharing this !!!! snow white is eliminated (little by little) from princess merchandize, but she ll always be the fairest one of all
Kory Bug Burkett: This is my job to make more Disney stuff and more Disney theme parks and more Disney soundtracks and I am the King of Disneyland and Walt Disney World and it’s my job to keep the magic alive before Walt Disney’s death and I will take over Disneyland and Walt Disney World and the Walt Disney Studios
I have been searching for this as it has existed only in my memory since I was 3 or 4 years old. Upon watching it I remember every color, motion, the costumes. This is just amazing. Thank you for sharing this. I was wondering if I saw it again, it would appear diminished but no. This is actually as amazing as my earliest memory serves. Just quality through and through.
I saw this when I was a child at RC it was fantastic 👏🏾 it left an indelible impression
This was so enjoyable! Those costumes were outstanding! What a treat it must have been to see in person. Great upload! Thank you! :)
still my favorite from when i was a kid...love love love this one
This was on HBO when I was little and I watched it every single time it was on. I LOVED it! Thank you so much for posting this, what a wonderful memory.
