In this video you'll see how I trim away dead hoof that has become extremely distorted through extreme growth on this Foundered Donkey. You'll see signs that show me what I'm dealing with in these feet, and I'll also show you and mention my plan for correcting the balance of these feet that have taken on a new balance through growing skew. As Farriers and Trimmers we do our best to rehabilitate the feet to bring them back to as much of a natural balance as possible, this takes time, but often it is very possible with patience (on the owners part) and consistent trims according to plan.
    Enjoy!
Watch this Donkey get his back feet trimmed and learn some different handling techniques we need to keep in mind with our Donkeys and Mules.

This is like ASMR for equine lovers - mesmerizing with a growing feeling of well being as it progresses, followed by contentment and relaxation seeing the new foot. I'm curious to know if the donkey has a happy reaction as he realizes he's undergone this transformation?

@@cappelhorsetrainingandshoeing Love it! As @Livestarling also observed - very satisfying to watch and despite having no connection to this donkey, I felt so calm and appreciative about what you were able to do for him by the end of the video. Because the sensation from watching was so similar to an ASMR response, I became curious if I was alone with that reaction. Low and behold, I'm not - it was just the first time I personally had that reaction. A search result showed me a UA-cam title, 'Restoring Horse's Hooves | ASMR Compilation (Satisfying)', and the comments reveal others having a similar experience watching a farrier work. Who knew that farrier work fits in this whole other genre, ASMR, where people experience keen fascination, (even tingles at the scalp and neck), leading to deep relaxation. Just a hunch, but dropping an ASMR tag into the content description might help people discover something they wouldn't have otherwise known they'd find interesting and relaxing. Cheers!

So true! I definitely was feeling like it was an ASMR experience for us horsey folk. It’s so meditative, definitely saving this video for whenever I want to get into a beautiful connected zone. 😊

Thanks so much for this. I have been trimming my own horses feet for about 10 years because of a lack of farriers and/or ones that won’t trim the sole off at every trim. I studied Pete Rameys book and videos back in the day. Your trim reassured me that I’m still on the right track. I’m not strong enough to use the nippers but I do okay with a rasp. Love your mapping information.

What hoof knife are you using? What's your favorite? How does their ligaments respond to a severe corrective trim? They must be stretched considering how the other hoof looks.

    I have a million questions.
How the heck can you tell when you're getting close enough to live sole that you can be less aggressive? Is it just apparent in the proximity to what might look "normal"?
I've seen several videos of a trimmer in China doing tons with what looks like an ice pike/blade. Its horrifying on a lot of levels, but I'm guessing the donks survive? Serious question. It looks like the trimmer takes off wayyyy too much.
Also, can I just send a thanks that you don't seem to judge owners for the state of their animals.

Live sole shows itself as waxy soap like appearance before it hits sensitive tissue.
After 40 years of doing this kind of work you have a lot of stored memory’s to draw from to guid your steps .
As far as being critical of an owner . That would be completely out of line as far as I’m concerned. The world already has plenty of self proclaimed experts I don’t need to be one !
      Thank you
      Dennis

@@cappelhorsetrainingandshoeing you are, by far, my favorite content creator on horse training on UA-cam. I bred/trained/showed ponies for years back in the 70's-early 2000's. I really appreciate how well made your videos are, and how most things can be replicated by a standard owner with some horse sense about them.
