Horses and donkeys hooves continue to grow throughout their life, and need a trim normally every 5-8 weeks! When they go too long between trims, their hooves can overgrow, and cause problems like this!
Seeing you guys do this hoof repair with x-rays, a Sawzall, and a grinder makes me even more impressed at the repairs Master Du manages over on the RescueHoof channel using nothing but spatula knives. Am I correct in assuming that if a wild donkey developed a deformed hoof like that, they're basically just dead right? No chance to escape predators I would imagine. Sad.
Its less likely to happen though, wild animals travel a lot further and wear down the material. It is when they are stuck in a limited area of soft ground that this sort of over growth is most likely to develop.
There’s a Chinese guy on UA-cam as well who practices hoof trimming in rural China and specializes in donkeys. His tools are so different than American tools, but kind of ingenious. He doesn’t have access to X-rays or anything, but 40+ years experience trimming donkeys pays off! Unfortunately, every donkey on his channel is like this…or worse. The reason I bring him up is the xrays you took us really shows just how bad overgrowth like this messes up the animal’s entire leg, and not just the foot. I’d also love to see your opinion on the Chinese man’s practice. It’s wild watching him work on such extreme cases without the use of power tools. Also, how do donkeys’ hooves differ from horses? They seem smaller and more vertical, is that true?
Too bad he operates in a quite unsanitary environment and he he is not too prone to do a thorough job. For example he would trim fron hoofs only, leaving back ones untouced. These animals are raised by Chinese farmers for thrir meat, whichnis condidered medicinal, in extremely closed quarters among their feces an urine. That is why they have hese tined snd hoofs. Frankly, the older gentleman who trims donkey hoofs could improve his techniques by watching videos from the Americsn professionals, to say the least without becoming personal in judging his rudimentary techniques and lack of hand tools…
Right? Plus he's a lot quicker with his little sharpened shovel than the vet with his power saw - he takes about twenty seconds per hoof .- I think that as stress during the actually cutting part of the hoof the Chinese master has our vets beat.
Thank you for helping this suffering donkey.... thank goodness there are people like you out there with skills and compassion to help. We need more people like you in the World ❤
These trimmings always amaze me. I love seeing you trimmers make these animals happy. If you see my question, what are the earliest of years that folks started trimming hooves? Thank you
Thank you, it’s hard to say but dark ages for sure. There are leather slipper type of shoes even before steel, it’s recognized very early in the world that the hoof was important to the horse
This man knows his stuff. I haven't seen this channel before and it's so nice when I see someone do this correctly. X-rays are mandatory with feet this bad. I have seen people just lop it off and call it good. 😭

You have made that poor animal's life 1000% better! Thank you for doing that - best video of the day!
Indeed!
Thank you, he’s still doing good!
Thank you for taking care of this poor guy. I know I’m not alone in saying this makes me so angry. There’s just no excuse. I just cringed at the first part of this. I hope he co tiniest to improve and he gets the much needed proper care and all the love he needs and deserves. ❤️
That donkey was amazingly calm with the Sawzall and grinder! I assume he was sedated! Great job!
Yes he was great to work on, zero sedation
@@olsenequinecjf And no twitch, ear twisting or whipping.
As if the poor guy knew you were helping him. Good job!🤝
Why did only one grow so long? So grateful for you!!!
Horses and donkeys hooves continue to grow throughout their life, and need a trim normally every 5-8 weeks! When they go too long between trims, their hooves can overgrow, and cause problems like this!
It’s amazing how kind and loving and also how cold and heartless we humans can be.
Thank you for being one of the good ones.
Watching the poor thing bring in so much pain got me right in the feels..
Seeing the relief is amazing
Meus parabéns pelo trabalho que você fez no burrinho agora ele vai poder andar melhor 🥰👏😘
@@mytech6779 I assumed that as well! Thanks!!
That's exactly what I was thinking. They need one of those sharp ass spatula things! Makes quick work of it and no vibration.
What a beautiful being you are for doing what you do... Thank YOU x 10
Thank you for Helping this donkey.
This Donkey is a happy donkey now.
You are his blessing.
May God bless you and your family.
Imagine the nice feeling of stretching your foot back after that long!! So good
There’s a Chinese guy on UA-cam as well who practices hoof trimming in rural China and specializes in donkeys.
@@jpcheco your wrong, he does great with what he has. Both parties could gain tremendously by watching other professionals work.
@@zendean5053 Well said, world is full ignorant people.
Right? Plus he's a lot quicker with his little sharpened shovel than the vet with his power saw - he takes about twenty seconds per hoof .- I think that as stress during the actually cutting part of the hoof the Chinese master has our vets beat.
You're talking about Master Du! I watch him too.
Thank you for helping this suffering donkey.... thank goodness there are people like you out there with skills and compassion to help. We need more people like you in the World ❤
Excellent job.
That was a very well behaved animal for not having that done before.
Thank you for helping him out 😀
Thank you whole heartily to the people that save these neglected animals !!! God bless all of you. 👍🇺🇸❤️❤️❤️❤️👍
Thank you for changing and improving that Donkeys life.
God bless you for saving this beautiful animals' life!!!
30 seconds and life changing results god bless you for helping him
This was sad, but turned out so much better for this donkey. ❤ thank you for caring so much ❤
Job well done!! Thanks for looking after the poor little guy.
This man knows his stuff. I haven't seen this channel before and it's so nice when I see someone do this correctly. X-rays are mandatory with feet this bad. I have seen people just lop it off and call it good. 😭
Wow! Amazing!! You must be over the moon right now knowing what great work you’ve done and changing the life of that gentle soul. God Bless❤️
Thank you very much!

Thank God for your help to this poor donkey. I had a foundered pony who had been neglected. My farrier was a godsend. So helpful. I’m so glad you were able to help this poor guy be able to walk pain free.
You did a great job fixing him up when he’s gone so long not getting proper hoof care. He’s lucky his current owner actually cared enough to help him get better and get proper treatment. Thank you! He is a beautiful donkey and now maybe he can enjoy life again!! ❤❤
