Heat from Welding can move metal around. And that is mostly due to shrinkage. But knowing that fact can help you do choose a weld sequence that helps the part come out straight.

It’s not just the quality of the welds or the depth of knowledge that impresses - it the generosity of the author. I think the community is grateful to you for all three.

I ran across this video and was so amazed to see someone doing exactly the same thing I did for a living for about 3 years. I learned a great deal about TIG welding 1 1/2 inch square stainless and TIG welding in general from my employer. He covered a great deal of the squaring and shrinkage issues in his instructions to me and I was very happy to learn these skills. I learned even more from this very informative video. I give you a perfect mark for showing accurate and very useful information. Excellent video ! !

Yes sir i might have alot of other choices of channels to watch but why? Yours s simply the best. Most informative. You talk and explain everything slowly so us rookies can watch and actually retain the info you give us. Plus your personality makes people feel comfortable learning. Honestly most other peoples channels are usual with an arrogant know it all teacher. Thank you for your time and effort sir. Youve really helped me in my welding. Ive built literally ever item on my jeep wangler because of you and your knowledge. I would never be able to afford to buy them otherwise and im very proud of it. Again thank you sir

Helpful video! (as usuall, i bought a TIG machine a few months ago, and your videos were a real guide for me to start welding aluminum.
I also found it helpful for a T-joint (with 2 square steel tubes in my situation) To do a weld on the left side, and immediately do a weld on the right side. Then check, do the other sides and it all ended up very straight. Another way is to keep a little gap, do one side, align, and do the other.

Man, I wish I learned to tig weld at a school instead of being self taught. I have so many bad habits. Like I noticed you dab the filler while just moving the tip linearly. I'm the opposite, I move the tip in small swirls while keeping the filler stationary. I am going to have to try that dabbing thing. Thanks as always for the videos.

Good video...however...for the people that are just starting out in trying to learn this field, out of all the videos I have seen, nobody discusses duty cycle. I can only wonder how many machines have been returned due to burn out which would give the product a bad rep. You are the best I have seen as far as info and bead lay down...Maybe you could discuss this in your next tuto.

Great vid, a suggestion, maybe you could do/post a vid where you show how to undo some of the pulling with a post heat. i.e. if it pulls to much out of square you can go in and lightly heat the inner joint to allow the weld stresses on the outside of the corner to pull it back.

Be carefull when welding w magnets drew, years ago i could not figure out why when mig welding the arc was doing weird things and it was the magnet i had on the underside of the piece, once i removed it all was good. just watch the placement of them, also heat is not good on a magnet. As far as this video i really think this a great video, will put this to use, ive fought w stainless alot at work and this will help greatly. Thanks..

Great video. Something I struggle with frequently. And I went to welding school. Haha. Still have a lot to learn. Picked up the Lincoln mp210 recently. I like it a lot so far. Not used to having it pre select the welding parameters though. That's new to me. My mig welds are a little high. Not sure if that's a wire speed issue or a travel speed. I like pretty flush welds with great penetration.

Have you seen the high dynamic contrast stereoscopic welding helmet ?
Search for "Augmented Reality Welding Mask", it uses multiple cameras so you can have an image where the arc is not overexposed but the rest of scene is not underexposed either.
You have some of the best welding videos on youtube but I think this thing could make them even better.
You'd probably have to DIY one because I don't think anyone sells those things yet but the hardware can't be all that expensive anyway.

thermal expansion. Try the ' weld and skip ' method. Lay a 1/2 inch bead on one end, flip over, 1/2 inch bead (one bead length long-spaced)on this side. Do this top/bottom. Start at one end, then goto the other end, finishing in the middle. Space out beads, so all are even length across the whole weld distance.
