Learn something new every day, I've an older pair of Loake Hickstead in brown Suede, getting a bit tatty, didn't know about using polish to colour, saw this and thought why not try it, so yesterday used Saphir renovating polish in Cognac and then clear dubbing, certainly looking better, I'll walk around in them for a few days and see how the patina effects takes shape
I wonder what these patina’d up like. I have a few pairs of old suede boots and love the waxed Java flesh look. I know it’s not going to be the same….but…..
You could try heatinh the wax up first them applying if you want it nice and even but I really like the effect you have. Recommend giving them a hard wear and letting time take its course. These, like most boots, will look a lot better with age. Which reminds me, my wife's Chelsea's are 2 years old and need some TLC 👌
Cool project! I was just thinking about doing this to some boots, you took a pretty different approach than I expected. Having a conditioner in there may give more even darkening, like colored Venetian Shoe Cream. I've used neutral VSC to touch up some waxed suede boots and it works well.
@@Bootlosophy Good call. I would like to get them just a slight bit darker as I feel like they’re too tan. I’ll do a small spot on the heel to see how that changes the color. Did you like the otter wax? I’ve also heard Dubbin get recommended.
i would use a hair dryer on the boot to even out the wax. i wouldn't use a heat gun, coz that would be overkill. don't worry about it. it looks great. and you're probably right about doing another layer of wax. but i would use a blow dryer first annd if it still looks splotchy then i would add another layer and then blow dry it a bit more.
First try going to a cobbler. Second, and this is only a guess, hot gun and paper napkins to absorb the wax as it melts, get as much off, then scrub with dishwashing soap, dry, then condition. Third - I dunno, add more and live with it?
@@Bootlosophy Hello, no I do not have this pair of boots. I only have 3 pairs, Red Wing Iron Ranger Amber Harmess, Grant Stone Diesel Color #8 Chromexcel and an old Timberland Chelsea brown.
You did more processing than I did. I just used a light brown oil based polish and brushed it to blend in gradually😅 Thanks for sharing 👊🏽

I like the look of the waxed ones.

How are they today?
It's only bad luck to put the shoes or boots on the table if they are NEW.😁
Just bought some Astorflex Chelsea’s on sale, they’re kinda blah so I think I’m going to wax them to see if I can make them pop more.
Maybe try waxing the toes and heels first to see if you like it. At worst you’ll stop there and it will look to have developed patina.
