Retired 12/03/24 just starting to settle in and get deprogrammed from work life. Didn't realize when I was working how much time was spent revolving around work, weekends were gotta hurry up and do this or do that before I go back to work, during the week same thing always thinking about the job. Going to town always taking the quickest route gotta get there and get back so I can get ready for work tomorrow, now I can drive 5 mph. under the speed limit while taking the scenic route. Guess I'm starting realize when you're retired everyday is the weekend 😅
I am 2 weeks retired.....everything you said is soooo true.....i thought i would know how it feels to be retired, but when it actually happens, that stress relief feeling is hard to put into words.
I am in the retirement blues phase.. right now, 3rd week of retirement... The only thing I need to get used to or come to terms with .. is the disconnect from my coworkers... To start off, everyone wishes you the best of luck and keep in touch .. in two weeks your are wrote off... like you were never there I understand I have seen it many time before... when I was younger and others retired.... I did prepared for the emotional side effects of this. I guess it's just the way it is I think I will get used to it and go on with my new life... .
Been retired since November. Retirement just sank in when I spent the whole month of January in south Florida and not back home in the snow and below zero temperatures
Thanks for another inspiring video, Steve. I am so looking forward to retiring. Mid-February of 2026 so just over a year from now. As a rule, time does fly so hopefully this last year will. Take care
Steve, I retired on 01/01/2025, from a 35 year career with the government.. I’m still transitioning. It’s a surreal feeling, a little scary and a lot exciting. It’ll take time for me to really process it but I’m looking forward to better weather and the funds to start.
Same here - retire March 1st from 25 years in a UK government job. Glad to be getting away from the toxic atmosphere and complete lack of motivation but anxious about retirement. Fingers crossed it all works out well
The amount of poor management and dishonesty in this administration is out of control. It’s upsetting to see those with disabilities not receiving the help they are legally entitled to. I sincerely thank you, June Renae Matthysse. Just imagine making $6K in 20 days from an investment of $1.5K
Steve, my journey to retirement has been going for almost 2 years now. As far as I am concerned I retired 01 January, 2025. I have chosen to stay engaged but I simply work 8 hours per week. No set sked, but basically any time frame and Amount I wish, I have the flexibility to get the work I am assigned done. That said I am sure there will be those who want to argue that any work after retirement doesn't count. What I have now embraced has transcended beyond the word retirement. Instead I say that as of the first of the year I am 100% satisfied knowing that I have won the game and can walk away at any time. What I have is the "Piece of Mind" that I may work because I "WANT" to, but I'll never need to work again because I "HAVE " to. At 57, that is all the difference I need right now. Please keep up the good work!
Mine was Thursday up until 1300 hours, everyone came to me for directions. My retirement party started at 14:00 hours and at 15:30 everyone went back to work and noone needed to talk to me. I was no longer employed.
I respect that it may be harder for men to retire. Many women broke up their working life to care for family. We got our feet wet regarding time management at home. I love being retired. I take care of my health and do everything at my own, natural pace. 👍😎🇨🇦🌸
I promise the time will come when it gets better! Coming from a Maintenace Supervisor of three four story buildings on call 24/7!! Eight months in and things are smoothing out! No more 4 o'clock in the mornings for me!! Getting a lot done around the house and not having to dealing with the next emergency is real niceeeee!!! Just keep getting up in the morning and looking around at all you worked for your whole life and take deep breathes, walk slower and look around more, eat slower, wear your bed clothes till lunch time!!!
I like these type of videos. I can live vicariously thru them as I will never be able to retire. Of course I know that's my own fault, for not preparing properly, but it brings a smile to my face to see those who are able to.
Are you sure? Obviously, I don't know your situation, I thought the same and then I met with a Schwab person and she helped me work out a plan. It took about 4 years and I worked a year longer than I wanted to, but I recently retired 7 days before my 65th birthday. No, I don't have a million dollars and I will have to live a frugal lifestyle, but my wife and I have always desired and have lived a simple life.
@@gregkloe That's awesome. Like I said, I'm happy for those that can do it. We do have a couple things in mind to look into, but not very hopeful. Enjoy that retirement.
Happy Birthday Steve. I see the Mrs (or you) got a little something there behind you in the video. Perhaps a Birthday present? I see you even knocked the whiskers off for the occasion.😊 Nice video tonight. I think I'm going to be like you. Its going to take several months or longer for retirement to hit me. Especially since I'm laid up with this hip for a while. Anyway take care Steve and Happy Birthday again
I was just telling someone today that I felt retired for the first time this week, after more than a month of being retired. I felt it strong Sunday night knowing that I had Monday off. 😂
Depending on circumstances, I’m maybe 18months out. But as an educator, I don’t know if it’ll be a huge immediate transition because of having summers and Christmas off. Of course, we don’t really get them off.
I realized it the last time I left the paking lot at work. It was a long, hazy bunout. 😂 I'm kidding, but it certainly didn't take long. I still occasionally have dreams of stressful moments at work, but it's glorious when I wake and realize it'll never happen again.
Back in Minnesota, people will usually tell you the best day of retirement is the first big snowstorm when they can sit in their easy chair in pajamas and watch the poor working stiffs fight their way into the office through the cold, snow, and slippery driving conditions………❄❄❄
Hey brother Steve I pray someday that feeling will come after being forced to retire at 55 due to a disability I had 40yrs of trucking and it feels like the rug was pulled from under me any comments would be greatly appreciated.Thanjs
Question, How do you pay Federal Taxes on earned income in retirement. quarterly ,yearly or at the end of the year. I'm looking at quarterly with automatic withdraws from bank account to IRS. Any advice would help.
I’ve been retired six days now. I’m still waiting for that retirement feeling to settle in. At this point I just feel like I’m on a long holiday weekend.
I am 11 days in. You are right. So far, it feels like one long weekend. Then I catch myself and say, "I don't need to (go into) work today." Then I smile.😊
After one year of not working many coworkers fb friend requested me which i accepted knowing theres no returning now A coworker early 60s like me expired and i like many others were shaken by it He was a good guy and helped us through many trying situations including covid If one stops working sooner it will likely gain you more time in the empirical world with improved health A yt video posted people on average use just 20% of their finances in retirement and leave 80% when they die and so far with my small pension the savings are holding up very well Hopefully we can activate a basic income so everyone can live more stress free lives and shorter work weeks
I just retired on Jan 17th and this video really helped me keep my perspective on track. Thank you Steve

Our defining retirement moment was watching the morning traffic on the news and realizing we didn’t have to do that madness anymore

I needed this. Retiring March, using up vacation until then so practising being retired now.
Six plus months into retirement and loving every day!
Man retirement is a trip when you figure it out
Just made my call to SS today. Check starts in March. Whew! New chapter in my life. Let's see where it takes me. Glad to find your channel.

when you retired, you effectively communicated to your co-workers: "I'm better than this."
Are you?

When I took off my steel toed boots and got my lunchbox and threw both in the garbage can ! Retired 2 years and love it !

I’ll be right behind you retiring 3/2/26! I can hardly wait
I was basically retired before work was done. After the dollars needed were made, work for me was just a motion. That was the time for me.

That woman totally changed my life for good. I have come across individuals but none is as honest as June. So surprised you know her too

Been retired for 6 months, still having nightmares of work related thing. I must have PTS. I hope it ends soon.
Same.
Same
Two years into retirement and the nightmares are less frequent

I haven retired now about 7 months and no I could do that now!

Love the hat !
I've been retired since 9/1/21. It was strange but, you'll get used to it.
Sounds good to me.
Question, How do you pay Federal Taxes on earned income in retirement. quarterly ,yearly or at the end of the year. I'm looking at quarterly with automatic withdraws from bank account to IRS. Any advice would help.
I pay estimated Fed and State taxes quarterly based on the income earned in each quarter.
@@jwm3237 Thanks
I read you also could take last year's tax payment, divide by four, and pay that amount each quarter (safe harbor rule.)
I’ve been retired since December 2024
I’ve been retired six days now. I’m still waiting for that retirement feeling to settle in. At this point I just feel like I’m on a long holiday weekend.

The retirement beard is gone & Uncle Steve is looking MAGA sharp. 👍🇺🇸
