Went there during a trip to London back in the late 80s. Just looked around the room remembering how many hours I'd spent listening to an old Buddy Rich album recorded there. Huge influence on my own playing and musical development as a drummer. The crowd heard something special that night back in the 70s when Buddy was there. Nothing quite like that exists today on the jazz scene. For me it was like a musical pilgrimage just being in that room.

Most of jazz clubs I go to in Paris are like that unless the players are young and bring their friend or if the cats are playing some more modern fusion stuff. I feel like old people go to jazz clubs just to reinforce this built identity revolving around being refined and financially comfortable. I'm not throwing shades tho, I'm 24 and had great conversations with some of them in between sets at clubs. Some of them are actually very cultured and can talk about music for hours

It certainly holds memories. You can just feel the history while you are sitting there. I need another visit.

I think what this clip brilliantly illustrates is that the audience are more interested in talking than listening to jazz!

The drink is a little expensive but there is some excellent jazz musicians playing at the club though.
Never went there but I'm pretty sure the 50cl bottle of sparkling water is like 7 bucks, lol. All good for me as long as the cats are killing ngl
