      *These are the most well-rounded characters I've seen on TV. Their pros and cons come from their actions/words - not because they were written as good or evil. It perplexes me when someone comments that they hate a character outright. I mean, a large audience sympathizes with Walter White of Breaking Bad and he's an unapologetic criminal. But we can't find any redeeming qualities in some teenagers?* That says more about society than the rampant miscommunication in this show.

  • @jordanl1911
    @jordanl1911 2 роки тому +7

    Im not sure you guys caught it, but the whole meeting in the auditorium scene was the showrunners having a little bit of fun:
    -When the one parent says "I heard you were the bully" to Daniel it is in response to the theory videos on UA-cam about Daniel being the actual villain in Karate Kid
    -When the one lady says something about it all being Sam's fault is making fun of the fans who said it was all her fault(which it partially was but...)
    The scene was to show us the fallout from the fight, sure, but it was also done for laughs.

    Not to give Kreese a pass, but his mother had mental issues, so it is implied that he may have inherited some of that from his mother. Also, he said he was fighting his whole life, so he probably had many concussions. Also, keep watching for more things that influenced and impacted Kreese to be the man he became. In the Karate Kid movies, he was a cartoon character with no depth. But after seasons 3 and 4, he is one of the best characters/villains in film history in my opinion.

Based of a vid here on UA-cam that brought that up before Cobra Kai first aired and another parent bringing up Tori starting the fight with Sam because Sam kissed Miguel. I know some people don't like Sam because they think she starts a lot of the problems on the show and is like her dad where they get on a high horse and won't ever admit them jumping to conclusions starts a lot of the conflicts on the show. Also where Daniel being the bully was from How I Met Your Mother where Barney Stinson thinks the bad guys are the good guys of the movies to him, one being Johnny from the Karate Kid. William Zabka even appearing on the show a few times helped his Johnny character be more sympathetic to people.

  • @entertainmententertainment6376
    @entertainmententertainment6376 2 роки тому +5

    "Most of the evil in this world is done by people with good intentions." - T.S. Eliot
    In other words, morality is an illusion. For example, 1st degree murder indicates intent to kill but manslaughter does not. However, in both instances a person is killed. The perpetrator of 1st degree murder will receive a harsher punishment because of the intent. The utilitarian point of view would punish both perpetrators equally because both resulted in a killing/death. However, there is clearly a distinction when you take into account intent. Therefore, right or wrong (morality) can be a bit blurred. That's what I found most interesting about Cobra Kai. It's more of an ideological war with parties that have similarities in the overall objective but attempt to achieve the objective from slightly different paths but clearly distinct from one another. Miyagi Do led to Robbie almost murdering Miguel. Cobra Kai has changed the lives of many kids in a positive way. Who is right and who is wrong? The answer is they are both right and they are both wrong. There isn't a perfect system. All we can do as humans is to move forward with humility to be able to exchange ideas (in this case, Miyagi Do and Cobra Kai), to learn from history as to not make the same mistakes and to preserve freedom (freedom in the Classical Liberal sense).

      That's a false assumption, and you take this too literally.
      The "good intentions" in the proverb often aren't good, that's the actual meaning.
      They are the result of looking only for easy and fast solutions, and result of over simplifications or self-delusion.
      Or of virtue signalling.
      In regard to this TV-show: all the s*** happens because the main characters are driven by their egotism and aggression.
      They actually show this with the flashbacks to their earlier life, or when the characters realize themselves were they went wrong.

    There are a lot of people at fault for what happened at the school brawl, but ultimately it's Tory's fault. She could have just confronted Miguel and Sam in private rather than get the entire school involved.
    At least she admits that it's her fault that Miguel almost died, even if she'll only admit it to Kreese. Speaking of, he barely had any screen time in the films but this season allows us to view more about his backstory. We get to know more about him as a character.

What made it harder was that she had the aneurysm in the school parking as she picked up her daughter. I was able to do CPR that kept her alive tell the paramedics came. All week I have been praying and imaging that she was struggling in her mind like Miguel for the past 10 days. Unfortunately unlike Miguel she succumbed to the results of the hemorrhage.

Daniel seems surprised when they rush in, but at this point, he can't tell the cops to wait (and look like he's helping Robby resist arrest). I think originally he was going to go with Robby and have Robby voluntarily turn himself in. I think the cops rushed in on their own.

    30:58-31:15 What about the beginning of "The Karate Kid III" where Kreese was initially reluctant to seek revenge against Miyagi and Daniel despite his own dire situation (which, to be clear, he brought on himself), but Terry Silver ultimately succeeded in putting him up to the revenge plot? I am not saying his momentary reticence at that point comes anywhere close to actually redeeming him, but it is a minor nuance that arguably makes him seem potentially redeemable before his appearance in "Cobra Kai."
    Also, the creators of "Cobra Kai" (Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg, and Josh Heald) have stated that past characters always have a chance of reappearing even if they seem as though they were retired from the show, so Aisha's story may not be over just yet. 😉

    • @doughbafett
      @doughbafett 2 роки тому

      I don't know if the writers of Karate Kid III ever meant for Kreese to be hesitant. Terry Silver was created out of necessity. Kreese was intended to be the main villain, but Martin Kove was busy with a TV show when the movie was shot. So he was reduced to a glorified cameo and Silver took his place.

    • @VanSisean
      @VanSisean 2 роки тому

      @@doughbafett Probably not in the original draft(s) of the screenplay before the character of Terry Silver was introduced to accommodate Martin Kove's schedule (rather than having Kreese as the sole main antagonist), but the fact that Kreese displays this hesitance in the actual film (i.e., the final, authoritative version) seems to demonstrate some abortive character development on his part. Of course, if Kreese was the sole main antagonist (presumably with Mike Barnes or some analogous character still serving as a secondary antagonist), it would have been interesting to see how they would have handled his character in that case (possibly taking Daniel's perspective and falsely making it seem as though he had genuinely reformed for much of the film, hence explaining why Daniel would be willing to train with someone he would have otherwise distrusted).
