The pictured wire diagram in the video is the opposite of what is actually being demoed. I smoked a kit because of it. I also think one of my kits came dead on arrival too, as it appeared that the wifi was already set up.

I got one of these kits from Amazon, seems the satellite is unresponsive to input nor does it's button illuminate, the main switch is still able to power the light on and off however (I.e. power goes through the satellite's traveller/load terminal)... wondering if I've done something wrong or it's DOA. 😟 EDIT: I just noticed the 3rd brightness level dot from the right on the master is permanently illuminated, is it trying to tell me something?
I have added this switch successfully in my last home, but somehow in the new home the wire colors don't match from main to satellite boxes and I'm not sure if I fried the switch or not as it just stays constant orange without blinking. I switched the traveler wires in the satellite and it doesn't seem to make a difference and switched the traveler wires in the main and still solid orange.
I would suggest reaching out to an electrician to determine which wire is which. They would be able to assist with unusual wire colors. Once that is known the device can be properly installed.
Yep, this video confirms I installed everything correctly 🤦♂️ I set the app & everything up. Question: my switches don’t connect to outlets that I want to have lights connected. If I replace toggle switches with Kasa switches and plug smart plugs in outlets where lights are, will the switches then allow me to connect? If so, do I have to connect all the wires to switch?
It could work. We have smart actions in the kasa app "control with switch" which allows you to trigger another Kasa device with when the switch is triggered.
No, the KS230 requires the pair. The Main switch connected to the Line/Live side and the other switch at the load side. The KS230 will not work with existing switches.

Your video and diagram don’t match each other. On the satellite switch on video you have load (black) wire and traveler 2 black wire together on same connection and on video it shows black and red on same connection. Went with the diagram as that’s what works. Other than that thank you for the video.
That is because the diagram was made after the recordings were filmed and we were unable to do a reshoot. Although they are different as long as the traveler wires are the same for each switch then it won't be a problem.
Yes TP-Link's Kasa product line is compatible with Alexa. You would just install the product using the Kasa app, then using the Alexa app link Kasa using the Kasa Smart Skill.
No the KS230 and HS210 are not compatible. Wiring is different and in the KS230 both units are needed to creating the circuit. This is different with the standard 3-way HS210 switch which can be paired with a manual switch.
It should be very soon. We are working on a few concerns raised by early adopters and once those are all addressed we will be able to release it fully.

Has anybody purchased this recently? I've been interested in buying for years, but people's reviews are all over the place. Wasn't sure if the kinks have been worked out yet.
Yes, since the V2 release the KS230 has been stable.
Can this connect to Alexa?
Yes TP-Link's Kasa product line is compatible with Alexa. You would just install the product using the Kasa app, then using the Alexa app link Kasa using the Kasa Smart Skill.
@@TPLINKTECH ok thanks
Has anyone got this too work in connect with the kasa 3 way switch? It seem silly to have 2 dimmers.
No the KS230 and HS210 are not compatible. Wiring is different and in the KS230 both units are needed to creating the circuit. This is different with the standard 3-way HS210 switch which can be paired with a manual switch.
When?
It should be very soon. We are working on a few concerns raised by early adopters and once those are all addressed we will be able to release it fully.
@@TPLINKTECH its listed on your site, but when I click buy, I get a 404 error page not found
@@DFProductions2011 It is but the buy link is currently disabled until a few concerns are sorted out.
@@TPLINKTECH what are the concerns?
@@TPLINKTECH it's now available to purchase on amazon, is it fixed?
Is installation different between kasa switch vs regular switch? I'm trying to work with contractor and they are charging more installation fee for it so was wondering if there's difference.
It can be. It all depends on the wiring.
Is the contractor configuring the kasa software, or just installing the physical switch? The configuration is extra work, but the physical installation is the same.
Too bad ALL of my screws are the same color!
They shouldn't be if you have the KS230. Please reach out to support.
@@TPLINKTECH They're all the same.
I get 230 different then the one on the video
The wiring of the satellite unit was modified on later versions. the load is a seperate wire rather than connecting to the screw with traveller 1.
I have 3 wire. 1 it’s line, 1 it’s travel but 1 it’s neutral? I connected it doesn’t work.
3-way switches will have to traveller wires 1 line or load wire (depending on side) and possibly 1 ground and 1 neutral. The neutral wire is required.
I have many Kasa switches and your 3 way kit is by far the most irritating one to install, your diagram has never worked for my home ONCE! I always have to end up just switching wires around till it works. Always hate installing your 3 way switches.
We would recommend that if the video and diagrams do not help to reach out directly to support. They can help walk you through the process.
Monetized video... really? Couldn't make this ad free?
Just because there is an ad doesn't mean the videos or channel is monetized. We don't have an AdSense account so none of our videos are monetized.
This is not user friendly switch its a headache🤦
The installation process is pretty straight forward. However, it can be difficult for customers who do not have experience with electrical wiring. In those cases we suggest contacting an electrician to complete the install.
This is essentially a useless video. I like the switch, but TP-Link needs to be more informative about covering different set-ups.
There aren't any different setups. For the KS230 there is one way to install it and one way to configure it.
Can this be used with a 4-way switch in between the two 3-way dimmers?
The HS210 can, but the KS230 dimmer cannot.
@@TPLINKTECH thank you for the information. Are you planning in future to make a dimmer switch that will work with the four way switch? And also your single pole switch and dimmers work with apple home kit but 3way switches won’t
@@TPLINKTECH I really love using your switches. They are amazing and you should make double rocker switches. I was able to find three-way dimmer, and the baraka switch for my other company but I really would like to stay with you so please let me know if you will be making those switches in the future, thank you
@@valerikatamadze2041 The new KS200 and KS220 were the first Kasa switches designed to work with HomeKit. A 3-way version has not been developed yet, but will likely. No there are no current plans for a 3-way dimmer for a 4-way environment. But I will suggest it to the team.
@@TPLINKTECH that would be wonderful because other companies already have it, I just wanna stay with you guys and all my clients love the product. You should also think about making a double rocker switch.
