Chloe is THE eternal it girl. I couldn’t think of a better person to have on this series! Also i 100% need to check out this place the next time i am in the city.
Oh man- I remember as a teenager in the 90s browsing movies/records in Mondo Kims (I also remember one of the first DVDs I ever purchased was from there- the original Ghost in the Shell). After college I was working a retail job on 8th street and the one day off my BF at the time and I had was Tuesdays- so we had a ritual where we would pick up 2-3 movies (or tv shows) to rent at Kims, then get falafels and cheap wine and tuck in. We didn't have much money then. At any rate, I'm so glad they saved the collection and that it's back in NYC. In my life coming full circle, I also host trivia at Press Room at the Alamo in lower Manhattan on Wednesdays and I host movie parties, speed dating, and other esoteric events there.
I loved Kim’s! I used to visit all the time when it was on St. Marks. I will however say however that I was once charged $75- for a limited edition copy of Eraserhead that was (as I found out after) available on Lynch’s website for $25-
Great piece. I remember buying Kung Fu Soccer & Battle Royale from the St. Marks store when those first dropped. Always a great place to snag obscure & foreign DVDs.
Love this. We had a pretty amazing store in Portland Maine called Videoport. All the most obscure movies and Television and random things that were ripped onto VHS. We really are missing something special by not having video stores and music stores around anymore. Browsing the aisles and connecting with strangers as you're holding a movie like Begotten in your hand and a dude walks by and says: "Great movie, check it out." and you see the guy is wearing a cool t-shirt, so you believe him and rent the movie.
Cool series. My favorite part of going to the Kim's Bleecker location was getting sh*t from the cashiers for paying with a $20 like that made you "elitist". I would always throw down a 20 dollar bill just to see if I could get an eyeroll at minimum. Big fan of the Manhattan Alamo and the Kims collection they have... brings back allot of memories just eyeballing the weirdness. Hopefully the out of print stuff is getting digitized and preserved by someone. World wouldn't be the same without Turkish E.T. and other gems.
Used to see Chloe at Mondo Kim’s on St Marks fairly regularly so this video brings back lots of nostalgia. Tons of celebs casually shopping with the regulars. Interesting to hear she was intimidated by the staff, my experience was different… I considered many to be friends. I’d imagine they were way more intimidated. Great video ❤
@AlistcelebrityJames Yeah, at the Kim's that was on St. Mark's. I saw her approach the counter to ask for a movie. The male employee was star struck. CHLOE then looked at me, and I remember thinking she looks better in person, but I don't remember if or how I acknowledged her.
The OG Kim’s were awesome. I’m sure some of the movies in the mix were donations by NYU students that wanted to be “immortalized” by the store. I’m sure there are New Yorkers who have copied at least 10k movies from there when they got their hands on CD burners.

Yes to this format !
Man, I miss video stores and the world before internet ruined everything.
Usually travel with my Chromecast but now when I get back to NYC 🗽 I'll bring my VCR. 📼 This store looks SO awesome!
Used to go Kim’s when I lived in New York, love this

Going up to NYC in a few months and I intend to go to all 3 NYC locations. Can't wait for you guys to open here in Florida next month.
Wow this is such a cool segment. Please bring Alamo back to Pheonix we miss you soo much.
Next trip I plan to Manhattan, I’m making an effort to visit this Alamo to visit Kim’s Underground. Awesome collection.

Her laugh 😂
When I moved to NYC in the early 90s, I went to Kim's and low and behold they had a Chinese Action movie section. I miss that place.
Are you referring to the Blockbuster Video in Norwalk on Connecticut Avenue? I used to go there to.....
I love Chloe

Why do I love this woman so much, but have not seen many of her films besides a few,?
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Beaver Trilogy mentioned letsgooooooooo
Yessssss
Agree 100 about being intimated to ask a question in that place. And I knew a lot! But they knew alllllll
Very cool video store 👍🏻❤️
Deja vu. In the early 2000s, Kim's is where I saw her. She was looking for the Richie Rich movie.
Chloë?

She's super cool. Beautiful, talented and a film fanatic.
the importance of being Morrissey is great!
Need the name of the song at 00:15
It sounds like something from the early to mid 90’s. Smashing Pumpkins or something like that.
Wow I thought Kims video closed 😂have not been there in 10 yrs
Reminds me of Movie Madness in Portland. If you know, you know.
Chloe will never not be so cool
There goes the IT girl!

She's cool cause she's real.
@2:34 OK GO OFF CHLOE
I didn't know that Rula Lenska was in Queen Kong.
She makes 80's Mom jeans look semi-cool.
📺🎬🍿🕰️
Wait. She pronounces her last name “seven•ē”? My bad.
oh shit that's the aids girl from kids. i wonder what casper would have been into if he was still alive.
Miss so much Kim’s Asian owned lol
Bushhh
She is an icon.
Chloe has a scary level of knowledge about film, it's incredibly impressive. I know some absolute film obsessives. She's up there with them.
Love brown bunnies? 😉
Yep
