I wish the song wasn’t so fast. I think the slowness the original one was what gave it so much feeling and strife, because to them, it felt like their God wasn’t doing anything about their suffering. It needs to slow down in order to show the emotion of the circumstances, setting the tone of the show. It’s the opener for goodness sake.
WHY IS THE TEMPO SPED UP?!! Who made that decision??! Ugh I love this song but it sounds horrible here, you can't get the emotion across properly if you're performing it like a chipper upbeat song

I love that Prince of Egypt is getting more recognition but I’m here to say that Ofra Haza was and is still the best woman to portray Jochebed/Yocheved
I agree with you 700% ! I love Ofra Haza and she had actually recorded "Deliver Us" in 18 languages (if I remember correctly). Such a shame that people today don't even know her. Ofra Haza and her angelic singing voice was just the very best of the best. She was truly phenomenal and impressive.
Okay I think they sound great and I like the final staging at the end of the song but the rest....yikes. It's so overdone. With such a great and powerful story along with the music, you don't really need to overhype or exaggerate the struggle and pain. Make the audience FEEL IT. Don't just show it.
I find the clothing to be the wrong choice. From the time our people were in egypt up until today, the clothing should be more modest. Both the men and women. Repersenting a part of our people's history matters and it should be done accordingly. Yes. Clothing matters that is very much a part of our identity. So that deserves to be fixed.
I had the same thought, actually. I know people would make the argument that they're dancers so they should have less clothing, but other musicals had done well with historically accurate costumes while also accounting for the dancers needs
@@beanskelly6508 agreed. But we definitely weren't running around in short shorts and crop tops. I don't know who made that call but anyone in the wardrobe department should have done a lot more research.
It's not necessarily supposed to be historically accurate. The ensemble in this show doesn't always play the actual slaves, they also play concepts like the Nile, the burning bush, the temples, the plagues etc. sometimes without leaving the stage to change. So that's, I assume, why the costumes look like that, so they can work in all those different situations. They're unspecified on purpose. At least that's how I interpreted it when I saw it but could be wrong of course.
The company's acting looks so unnatural. They all look and sound great but there's a lack of feeling and theater chills because it looks so unreal. More so it looks like supermodels are depicting the ancient Israel. This is a directorial failure in so many ways. Moses' mom however is doing really good with her acting. She's the only one who's acting well.
A play can't successfully imitate a cartoon because the cartoon is capable of so much more fantasy than real people or props can do. Also, they're dancers and have attractive bodies because of it, you can't ask them to wreck themselves to look more like slaves.
Musiclife9724601 obviously they can’t help the way there body looks because they are dancers but I feel like the costume department could have made the costumes in this scene look less revealing in order to work around it
Unfortunately, I think what you're seeing is the difference between a chorus dancer and a lead actor. 😕Hate to say it 'cause I have a lot of respect for the chorus in musicals but, people in the chorus are primarily chosen for their dance ability/experience and not for their acting ability (and even singing is less essential). Moses' mom, on the other hand, would have been cast entirely for her acting/singing ability with dance not being as big a factor. As much as people on Broadway and the West End try their best to be triple threats, it really is rare to truly excel at all three.
I have been waiting for this to become a stage adapted musical forever and whenever I listen to the motion picture soundtrack, I always cry. Unfortunately this didn’t do anything for me. The choreography is weird and does not depict in the slightest how much pain and torture there was for the slaves. Plus this song is a cry for help to God, why is everyone smiling at the end and flexing muscles? I don’t like posting negative comments online because I don’t want to encourage online bullying, but this missed the mark big time
That's exactly what I was thinking! I really want to like this new version, but for some reason I'm just not feeling it... The pacing is probably a big part of it.
Looks cheap . Let´s be honest in this scene they are supposed to be working for hours building structures under heavy sun. These actors are not giving me that.
What do you want a giant pyramid on stage. It’s not really practical to have absolutely giant pieces of scenery and it would interfere with the choreography
Please please, don't rush the music or the acting. It's a powerful story with wonderful and epic music meant to make everything seem big and vast. If you speed it up it really takes away from that

Saw the show last week and have to say, all the scenes with the ensemble on stage were truly the standout moments of the show. The big choir moments (this clip doesn't do the actual sound justice) and the choreography were so good! The additional music was kind of meh but the show as an over all experience I would definitely recommend.
Phelie315 Thank you for saying that the choreography was good. I went to see the show a few months ago and I thought that the best part about the show was the choreography and the parts when the whole cast came together to sing, because it was so powerful!
Whoever directed this missed the whole entire point of this song, is supposed to represent generations of slavery and poverty. What makes the original version of this song immaculate is the large choir that uses the male's voice as the base and the female's voices as the cry of the people. The original is slower to show the depravity and lack of energy from the slaves as they cry out to their God to be finally delivered from the Egyptians. This is like a peppy, high school adaptation of the song. In my opinion, this shows that the company missed the whole point of the story, and in a way disrespectful to the Bible story and to the people who believe this story to be more than a fable, but of an actual event, and or people that have actual taste. We got High School Musical when we should have gotten this. ua-cam.com/video/Ig-4StuBfSE/v-deo.html. This is the best orchestra version of the song I have seen and they are Taiwanese!!

Reminder that actors often “smile” in order to hit higher notes due to vowel placement, sit hat explains why they all look so “happy,” but if you’ve ever seen Les Mis... they don’t look happy all the time regardless of the notes they sing. Acting is hard, and y’all are obviously talented. But I think that’s what needs the most work.
Ive literally saw katie hall as fantine and not once did she sct like these guys, if you have to smile to hit a high note ACT. LOOK LIKE YOU’RE CRYING WHILE SINGING. this whole thing just looks awkward
I watched it the weekend of its opening. Love the music but I have to say I felt underwhelmed most of the time. I know we can't compare it to the animation, but for me, one of the greatest scene from the animation is during Moses encounter with the Burning bush and the way the play decided to portray that just ruined it for me. Also one of the lead actresses was really stiff and just cringe to watch in some scene. But, it wasnt all bad, I enjoyed some parts and some of the new songs worked really well. The production could have used a bit more funding. It looked cheap, for example their costume and recycling of the actors was way too obvious. *edited* but don't take my words for it. Go watch it for yourself and form your own opinion
Julienne Agreed 100% especially at the burning bush part. I wish they used the original tune used in the film and also made it sound like God was speaking. It sounded as if it was just a bunch of people telling Moses do to a task. But eh, it is what it is!
Look up Moses from Sight and Sound Theatres. Their production was amazing. So good. Totally recommend. As from the looks from the comments you'll like this one much better
To the people complaining in the comments, I have seen this live and a lot of what is being mentioned is down to this being a video. There are cuts to make it more concise, it is far more powerful in the audience live and maybe the clothing is not realistic, but characters such as Miriam and Aaron have much more modest dress - some of the dancers choreography is quite difficult and people need the ability to do the difficult moves without restriction or risk of being caught. This song plays for the same length as the film (give or take) but it is also used to explain the situation and infanticide. Don't be put off by a video that edits out a large portion of this performance.
The choreography really doesn't fit with the music style. It needs to be a little less Jesus Christ Superstar and a little bit more Lion King/Aida to really work on the stage
As The Prince of Egypt was my favorite childhood movie, I was sooo excited to see the stage adaptation. However, after seeing it a couple days ago, I was truly disappointed.
As a fellow German I can only recommend going to London. In Germany the ticket would be twice as expensive so you can get the flight ticket for that money and get a better quality show in return. Quality usually drops once a show gets into the hands of Stage Entertainment, sadly.
Only two places to properly go and see a musical in my opinion. Broadway and The West End. Don’t think I’d be alone in that statement. I do hope it makes it way out to you though! Just got to see how the initial run goes :)
What do you expect? They're theatre actors and it will be no surprise that most of the are built and fitted because they practice dances that are sometimes pretty challenging.
Its like they got the cast of singing in the rain and told them to fill in for the Prince of Egypt cast while they were away. Like the look is fine, they're professional musical theatre actors and dancers, they can't lose muscle for a role, thats dangerous (believe me, im in the industry) but their faces look like they're singing tomorrow from Annie
.75 speed makes it so much better! Takes away a bit of the cheerfulness they added (which was not in any way necessary or wanted, btw, the slower and darker original was gold)
I adore this movie so much, especially this song, from a cinematic perspective. It's a shame to see how glamorous they made the theatrical adaptation - it takes away so much from the story and the emotions of the song
The emotion and staging for this song should have been more reflective of the misery and suffering in 'At the End of the Day' from Les Mis not this stale nonense that in no way conveys pain from the depths of despair. Why are they all young and fit? Seeing the old slaves struggling physically was an important part of the story. Wtf were they thinking?!
Where's the pain in their eyes? I might sound like I'm nitpicking but in the original movie, the beauty came from the fact that they were able to artistically express the desperation of the Israelites to escape Egypt-the essence of the song was not solely about being mistreated and enslaved, but crying for God to hear them because they desperately needed him in that moment.
The best musical I have ever seen!! Fantastic!! Loved every minute!! It’s true, the acting in “Deliver Us” wasn’t a Les Miserables but despite this hiccup everything else was spectacular!!! ❤️❤️❤️
As someone who’s seen the movie this bugs me quite a lot. It’s not like suffering is easier to portray in animation than live theatre ( just look at les miserables) and the fact that this song is done with the actors showing little signs of suffering in both their acting and appearance annoys me a lot. Plus increasing the tempo of this song doesn’t have the same effect as the original had for me; the original felt like a slow march towards the end of the piece while this version feels like a brisk jog, doesn’t feel the same at all.
I mean looks awesome but umm I kinda get a sense of happiness from them like “DELIVER US” ending they seem to have a smile on their faces instead of a yearning for freedom
For all the tough critics out there... I saw this it’s opening week in London for my birthday. It’s one of the most creative and magical set designs I’ve ever seen (and I’ve seen Fela!) the music played homage to the film (which I still have on tape) while still giving us a new feel. They gave Rameses a storyline (the ending wasn’t my favorite though lol) but overall the cast was extremely talented. So many people hung up on what they LOOK like. That’s silly. Also above all the BEST part was the way they didn’t butcher the Hebrew. The cast, crew and writers all really did something phenomenal. I wish I could see it again
Great vocals! I just feel the choreography is a bit over the top. (It’s hard to judge without seeing the entire number) but it feels like it does not match the setting. They are slaves begging to be delivered from this hell they are experiencing. Idk...the performance just felt a bit off
This advertisement does look a bit like Magic Mike... however, I saw it live last week and this song was outstanding and the entire cast did it justice. Huge applause for this song!
It looks great but I have to agree with the rest of the comment section. I know there’s one comment in here saying how the slowness of the original was the reason it was so powerful and I agree. Everything seems too... happy?
I wish the song wasn’t so fast. I think the slowness the original one was what gave it so much feeling and strife, because to them, it felt like their God wasn’t doing anything about their suffering. ayo it's news to me that you absolutely need a crop top in order to dance lol
I don’t care if this is good or bad. I’m just so happy they finally made it into a music!! 😭😭
a month ago i saw the movie and then thought, what if this was turned into a musical and now it is now turning into a musical which is kinda crazy!!
The choreography really doesn't fit with the music style. It needs to be a little less Jesus Christ Superstar and a little bit more Lion King/Aida to really work on the stage
YESSSSS
lmao u rlly went there and said jesus christ super star 😭😭🤣
@@strawberryrnilk I mean, JC Superstar is a rock musical after all.
As The Prince of Egypt was my favorite childhood movie, I was sooo excited to see the stage adaptation. However, after seeing it a couple days ago, I was truly disappointed.
I saw this a few weeks ago and this does not do the production justice. It’s amazing, will make you laugh, cry and cheer in delight.
Hope one day it'll be shown in Germany as well. I'm a big Fan of the Movie and I love Musicals. So my fingers are crossed;)
This has been MY DREAM IVE BEEN WAITING FOR
.75 speed makes it so much better! Takes away a bit of the cheerfulness they added (which was not in any way necessary or wanted, btw, the slower and darker original was gold)
I watched this last week and was crying by the end of the opening number (this) . SO powerful!!
The animated one is WAAAAY BETTER
NO DOUBT
It looks like the guys at the gym decided to do a musical. I can imagine whey protein and yoga mats at the corner of the stage.
These comments are killing meee 😂😂😂
Saw the show today, it was amazing. One of the best shows I have ever seen.
I'm visiting London for the first time this summer and I already got tickets for this play! I can't wait!!!!
The fact that they sped uptheir painsuffering.
wow look at these well-fed, healthy, muscular slaves
...."DELIVER US" 💃🕺"HEAR OUR CALL, DELIVER US" 🤸♀️
*me throughout the video*: don’t cry, don’t cry, don’t cry
*final lyric*: 😭😭😭🙌🏼💜
Every time I hear a song from this play tears flow down my face. I think It’s time to watch the movie again.
I went to watch this last week in the London theatre, it was exactly the same but it was so beautiful and amazing- I fell in love
I love this, but I miss the high notes. Still hoping to go watch this 😍❤️
0:47 IT’S MY QUEEN MERCEDESZ CSAMPAI 😍😍😍
IT'S ABOUT TIME
Also I need the full musical, stat.
Such a powerful song! Love it so much. It fills me with so much strength, energy! 🥹☺️❤❤❤
I’ve seen the movie like 1M times but I had no idea it was on Broadway and this is amazing!
I would love to see this - the film is so emotional and I'm sure the musical will be amazing! 💖
I mean looks awesome but umm I kinda get a sense of happiness from them like “DELIVER US” ending they seem to have a smile on their faces instead of a yearning for freedom
Something about when the mother sings the last note here seems off. The original had such emotion. This one felt...almost too rehearsed?
Finally! The best Dreamworks movie ever!
Why do the guys look like they just stepped out of the Fifth Harmony Work From Home music video
DisneyGeek 8477 As a Harmonizer this comment made my day. 🤣🤣
The Prince of Egypt is one of the best movies ever. This reminds me of an Moulin Rouge show....
Who have made this? :-/
Easy to tell, from the comments, who hasn’t actually seen it. It was an incredible production.
Look at all those abs
I watched the prince of Egypt in the dominion theatre yesterday and o lord it was amazing 😉
This song is a 2020 mood.
Great vocals! I just feel the choreography is a bit over the top. (It’s hard to judge without seeing the entire number) but it feels like it does not match the setting. They are slaves begging to be delivered from this hell they are experiencing. Idk...the performance just felt a bit off
My 5 year old me is going crazy that this has officially became a STAGE PRODUCTION
This advertisement does look a bit like Magic Mike... however, I saw it live last week and this song was outstanding and the entire cast did it justice. Huge applause for this song!
THEY MADE IT
Why the heck the child smiling at the end? He think slavery is fun or something?!
Is slavery dramatic?
@@gamerteen3d607 It is supposed to be miserable.
This is amazing! Please come back to the USA soon! And please give us a soundtrack soon!
Oh no, just no. What where they thinking with this scene.
I hope you guys are still gonna be available to see once these hard times are over
Deliver Us from the Coronavirus
See it today...was excellent
costume designer needs a raise
It looks AMAZING! I wish i could see it
I want to see this so badly😭
Saw this last week, it's amazing
I always wanted to see how this song would show on stage ever since ❤️
It looks great but I have to agree with the rest of the comment section. I know there’s one comment in here saying how the slowness of the original was the reason it was so powerful and I agree. Everything seems too... happy?
I can't believe this is what I waited so long for. Ugh.
csees im glad i cancelled my plans to london just for this........ just to see.. those abs smh
One of my favorite songs in the whole movie
I watched it in theatre yesterday the same one as in the video and it was actually quite good
Hmmmm....id love to see a musical on the prince of Egypt but these actors aren’t selling it for me :/
3 days till i see it
Cant wait
Managed to see a preview. You are in for a treat!
