what a melodist! Catherine leaves no place to " chatter", or any kinda of technical esbrouffe, he just plays music like he talks, gently, lovely, always trying to express beauty and magic out of his soul

Beautiful chords. I love the sound and colors of the Gibson ES175d. I have had one since 1962.

He and Coryell's "Splendid" is epic. What a gifted and inspired guitarist...he plays for the music and the expression.

Ce mec a un sens de la mélodie qui me parle vraiment. Sans doute cette petite touche de jazz manouche qui donne de la chaleur et de l'humanité à son jazz.

thanks for posting - he's got an amazing tone and refreshingly not afraid of a good bright picking attack ..unlike alot of modern cats who are amazing players but for some reason want their tone to sound like a cheap synth clarinet patch

    Good news !! : Warner Music France just released on 24 Nov 2017 a 5 CD-Box ‘Selected Works 1974-1982’,
It includes Philip's 4 classic albums 'September Man’ (1974), ‘Guitars’ (1975), ‘Babel’ (1980), ‘End of August’ (1982) and a previously unreleased recording 'Solo Bremen 1979 & 1982’ album.
A complete booklet with notes by some great musicians and the original vinyl artwork faithfully reproduced, except ‘Solo Bremen’ which will be illustrated by a painting by artist Gilles Fiszman.

The more I listen to him, the more I love his phrasing and tone.
But Damn! He uses super heavy 0.14 ~.

      @@olubibabalola : _ As a VEGANist, I’d say “burly”.
_ Same with the late Larry Coryel and many others. Actually, I’m listening to Roland Kirk right now. He was 1 of the finest specimens.
_ Hahaha … but, wait. We are talking about the left hand, right?
Wes also used 0.14 s. His right-hand thumb is almost exclusively talked about, but IMO the strength and dexterity of his left hand is equally amazing, especially playing his signature block-chord melodies over those fat strings so effortlessly.

Oh, and recently I was very much impressed with the guitar play and tone of Tony Petrucciani when he played duo with his son Michel. I can tell he must have studied Wes very well. Check it out.
