    I was able to do this on my 13 Beetle! I didn’t have to remove the coolant hoses but it sure would of helped. Two bottom bolts were a pain but it was definitely worth it. I got the replacement cover and gaskets for 50. Dealer wanted 1k for this job and Glad I was able to man up and tackle this myself! Thank you 🙏🏽

    Was any RTV sealant used around the gasket? Or was a thorough cleaning of the timing chain cover sufficient to ensure a good seal?

    • @EliasMusyoka
      @EliasMusyoka 3 роки тому

      I would like to know this too because on mine we used a sealant and the gasket just popped out on one side

    • @carvercapitalequitypartner122
      @carvercapitalequitypartner122 2 роки тому

      With RTV sealant at only $6 from Home Depot you should get some to supplement the upper timing chain cover gasket (Mahle part no. T33325). With all this tricky labor needed, you don't want too have to do the job again.

    50K service at the dealership today led me to a Google search after they said I need to have this same repair. After watching the video, I'm seriously doubting their quoted $533. Thoughts on that quote if I don't have the space/tools to tackle this on my own, please?

    • @RitterTX
      @RitterTX 4 роки тому

      BK Nelson what did you end up doing. Just got the same diagnosis on my Audi with the ea888. I’m skeptical. Never saw a drop of oil on the ground and don’t have oil consumption.

    • @boorayin2773
      @boorayin2773 4 роки тому

      @@RitterTX I asked on Nextdoor for local recommendations since I'm new to this area - got a number of names that I can go to, instead. Haven't done it yet, though, as my cover only shows a very minor leak and my oil level is fine. The same dealership also recommended another equally priced issue with my oil/air separater - have to get that one confirmed/denied, too.

      @@1AAuto how likely is it that the upper cover grommet screws/ fasteners fall into the timing housing when taking the cover off. I have a rouge grommet screw that fell off. I can't find it anywhere! I bought an endoscope and had a hard time getting it into and down the timing housing (the grommet screws are bigger than the endoscope) to look and couldn't find anything.
