I remember my mom raised me to not only save my “virginity” for my husband but also my “first kiss”. I remember the day I finally kissed my boyfriend (who is now my husband). We had been seriously dating with the intent for marriage for 7 months at the time. I was 19 and my husband was 18. It was a simple sweet make out with the love of my life who I had fallen deeply in love with. Neither of us knew what we were doing but it was very innocent. I came home that night around midnight and my mom came into my bedroom, sat on my bed and looked at me blankly and asked “did you kiss him?” I could never lie to my mom… (especially not back then) and so I told her yes. She stood up, walked towards my bedroom door, turned around just before exiting and said “I’m very disappointed in you”. I cried like a baby… feeling like something had just died inside of me that I could never get back
Oh gosh this hit home. I had a similar experience with my mum, who was raised Catholic but never actually carried the pratices further than her childhood, the beliefs however were burnt into her and passively pushed onto her kids. She didn't talk to me for a week after I told her in confidence I had sex for the first time (I was 18). I hope you didn't carry the guilt with you for too long, it was such an innocent thing I really feel for you.
@@kla9914 it took a little bit. But it helped me as an adult to grow and decide what I wanted to believe and hold on to as an adult. I was able to decide what hurt me and what boundaries to set. It was healthy for me in the long run

@@ajajjajsjjshshhs3715 i can but i see where i went wrong, i meant i ask both. No one ever ask a male if theyre are given, you say taken or loss. But regardless thats stupid to get mad about nonetheless.
And the thing about duct tape that was only taught to her is so disgusting. She cried after something that should have been a nice memory because she was taught she was worthless has a human now?? Some religions are just weird.
@@daquoncooper9259 no it's not stupid because it's an indication of a bigger issue. Whats actually stupid is to think something you will never go through doesn't matter. Not being able to put yourself in someone else's shoes. That's called low emotional intelligence and its a problem...you should probably look into that.
Can we take a moment to think about how cruel the discussions around sex are in religion, particularly in the Abrahamic religions? I left the church (I'm EXMO) when I was 15, moved out of my parent's house as soon as I turned 18. I am now 36, years of therapy later, and I still deal with shame, embarrassment, and body issues stemming from religion trauma.
Sorry you had to go through that, religion is a touchy topic but you should 100% feel comfortable about the body you’re on. No religion should place a value on your body depending on if your pure or not. Live your life in a way you can be proud of and not anyone else.
I assume you mean ‘particularly in Christianity’ right? We Jews (at least most of us that aren’t ultra-orthodox) are really not like that...
In a similar boat.
@@Nooticus that what you say is truth for all abrahamic religions. :) but the ultra ppl care more about no sex (jews christs and moslems)
I'm sincerely awfully sorry to hear about your trauma. No one deserves to go through it. However, it does sound like you're generalising Christian values of chastity on all the other Abrahamic religions. In Judaism, it's considered a mitzvah (blessing) to have pleasurable sex and some rabbinical scholars have compared orgasms to experiencing a taste of heaven. Not to say there are no oppressive views on sex or just general misogyny in Jewish communities (or Muslim or Baha'i, but I'm not going to speak for them as I'm not a part of them)... But when most people say "religion stigmatises sex", they're thinking of the ways that Christianity is shit with sex, and generalising it to the other Abrahamic religions without fully knowing them.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE THE FACT THAT YOU GUYS ASKED THE GIRLS TO SAY WHAT THEY THINK ABOUT THE TERM "VIRGINITY"!!! tbh it's a word that makes me deeply uncomfortable and i was kinda thinking of messaging you about in on ig, but i mean... you're just perfect
They asked about the *phrase* "losing your virginity" not the word itself. Why does the word bother you? Obviously they discussed the connotations attached to the phrase but why is the word itself triggering enough to warrant a dm?

i’ve written this before, but i’m going to write it again… some people choose to do it with someone they really care about. some people choose to do it with a random hook up. some people like the feelings or emotional parts, and some don’t. it doesn’t really matter which one you choose. just do it on your own terms not because someone pressured you. it’s also okay if you choose to not have sex again for awhile after for whatever reason. it’s also okay if you want to do it immediately again right after. you might not like it your first couple of times, and that’s okay. sometimes people just need to find the right person to realize that sex can be enjoyable. the person who makes you realize sex can be amazing can be a significant other, one night stand, friend with benefits, etc.
I needed this, thanks ❤️

I count losing my virginity to myself, cause like I'm the first person to make me feel pleasure and I opened that door of sexuality to myself. Even when I had sex for the first time it was like me gaining my confidence and being comfortable and in control of myself.
THIS. I so agree.
After all, if one cannot gain the pleasure on his/her own, what can you expect from the partner? Totally agree with you, that counts!)
❤❤❤
Makes me sick hearing "took" the virginity. No one is taking anything from anyone, it's a made up nonsense that no one can take
It’s a belief and just figure of speech, I don’t know why you’re so angry that people believe they want to preserve their virginity
It’s figurative speech. You don’t have to take it so literally. E.g if I say “Woah you’re on fire” that does not literally mean that you’re on fire - it’s simply a way to convey how well you’re doing. I see the “taking/losing your virginity” phrase in the same light.
@@fos1451 exactly
@@jvstred9112 you’re correct
Good work Cut. Glad to hear you included questions regarding the terminology surrounding virginity.
I am sorry to all those who have felt guilt and shame by their religious institutes. While I personally am waiting til marriage with my partner, it is not out of fear or guilt. It is because we were raised to view sex as something so bonding and intimate that you’d only want to do it with your spouse. I couldn’t imagine being that vulnerable with just anyone (not everyone views it that way of course). And I definitely think it’s pretty harming to put just a woman’s virginity on a pedestal, it goes both ways I feel. Great video for discussion 👍🏼.
The thing I wonder about people who make this decision is ...do you worry you and your future spouse may not be sexually compatible? I know that wouldn't be a deal breaker for some, but if I made that decision and I was not compatible with my spouse I would feel so uncomfortable all the time. Interested to hear your opinion.
@@epicjen
I will not lie and say it isn’t something in the back of my mind. Here’s the thing though, we don’t know what our sexual preferences are just yet. Neither of us have experienced that aspect of life. We have amazing communication and that is a key factor. Also, talking about sex before getting married is a must, esp if you’re waiting. Having realistic expectations too. It is probably going to be a bit awkward in the beginning, but you work through it together. Another thing, while sex can be a very important factor in a relationship (some people don’t prioritize this and that’s totally fine) I’m not marrying him for that reason. I would marry him regardless of sex, because we make each other better people, make each other laugh, etc. Also there are going to be times where sex is going to be on the back burner, like right after having a baby, long distance, whatever the reason and we’ve already had experience with waiting and still being happy and content. Hope that gives you some insight 😅.
@@SweatPea0014 I like to think it will be fine if you and your partner are both understanding of each other, respect boundaries, and aren't pushy. And it sounds like you have a very healthy relationship just from what you said, so I wish you luck!
You're absolutely ridiculous. Smh.
But there's nothing magical about a piece of paper saying you're legally married. If you two love, trust, and respect each other, sex with be intimate and special anyway. Just do it and enjoy yourself. It's never going to be mind-blowing the first time anyway, just take the pressure off. By the time you're married, you may actually be really good at having sex together.
I'm so glad my mother was too chicken to give me the sex talk, because I'm sure she would've said some duct tape bullshit to me lol

To guilt people into not having sex is not beneficial.
I know it's always been so taboo for sexuality in general to be discussed in my immediate family. It led me into relationships and situations i never should've been in.

I lost it and had my first kiss at 18, with my current bf, he waited 8 months and almost two weeks for me to get comfortable enough (religious trauma) to do it. For his 18th birthday his friends gifted him condoms (regular durex) and we decided to use it, we also had lube prepared, when he tried putting on the condom, he went soft and couldn’t understand why so I said it’s okay, maybe it’s the condoms, let’s just buy a bigger size tomorrow and we can try again. So we went and bought the XXL (60mm diameter ones) and they fit him and he wasn’t going soft anymore and we could do it in peace. He also had his first orgasm that day so I was very happy about it, it was very romantic even if it was in the middle of the day while my parents were gone, it just felt soul tying to me and he also expressed that after like a week he felt really attached to me. 10/10 experience.

I don't find anything wrong with the phrase "losing your virginity", nor has it been just women it's been applied to. I understand the arguments against it, but I think people make a bigger deal out of it than it is. There's a UA-camr named Lacigreen who I've been watching for almost 15 years. She was making sex-ed videos for a while and she came up with the term "sexual debut" as alternate phrase for the first time someone has sex. I thought that was kind of cool.
i def feel like there’s a huge stigma applied to taking/losing virginity especially for women. for men they gain ego/confidence when they finally jump the hurdle of having sex, for women, there’s a huge pressure of being a “hoe” losing it too early, just the idea of “losing” something in general implies “losing” purity or otherwise “losing” something valuable that comes with virginity and that’s an outdated mindset. it’s exoticizing a trait that shouldn’t effect the way you perceive someone’s character
@@woozworldbabe312 I understand that. I don't think the stigma is as bad as it used to be, though. I grew up in the late 90s and early 2000s and slut shaming back then was pretty much a way of life. I personally never did that. That shit always bothered me. However, I've noticed in the last 10 years or so that there's a lot less of it. We're becoming more sex positive and less shamey, which is awesome, but we still have a ways to go. Prudes will be prudes.

the duct tape thing is just horrifying, i'm sorry it was said to you. Can we just stop comparing women to objects? I understand when she talks about being raised in a super Christian culture, most of the time we feel guilty for having sex (no matter what age) about something that is natural.
For sure, the guilt trip is horrible. I've not even dared going there untill I was over 21... and years later I heard that my older brother went to a sex worker to lose his virginity because he was too afraid to ask his gf at the time because of the whole stigma around it.
why are there so many super christian cultures in the us?? here in italy its totally dying out, only very old people even go to church. on of the reason for that could be the priests who raped a lot of little boys in europe
Pretty genious of the church if you think about it. Making something as natural and instinctual as sex a "guilty sin" that you have to pay them to get rid of/forgiven for.
is it natural tho?
@@mimosasseat9860 It's one of the most natural things on earth. Almost every single species has sex.

It’s horrifying and heartbreaking that that is how so many people represent something that is supposed to be the ultimate love and justice and GRACE like bro have these people even read the Bible they claim to be speaking for. 😭
the using religion as an excuse to be awful makes me sick to my stomach and genuinely angry because not only is it HORRIBLE and chronically harmful to so many people (and from such a young age!!), it’s also a complete misrepresentation of what the thing they’re claiming to stand for is supposed to be!! AH. hurt people hurt people but my goodness don’t pretend God is telling you it’s good and fine because I promise you He isn’t.
And it makes no sense…so even if you wait and get married, the first time you sleep with your husband is the only good time???? And for the rest of your marriage/life you’re like used duct tape???? Smh

something I am wondering while watch9ing cut an jubilee videos as an italian is, if theres really that many hardcore christians in the US? I always thought my parents were hardcore christians because they wanted me to go to church with them every weekend, but here noonce cares whenever you lose your virginity and noone really puts pressure on you. but if I look at some of these guys from the video it feel like christianity is taken way more seriously than here, it honestly feels like a sect.
I have a lot of passion about this topic because even at my age I have a hard time wrapping my head around the need for purity culture, so I apologize in advance for this long answer. Pretty much across the board, from my experience living in the US and as a Christian, losing your virginity before marriage is an absolute no-no. Even as a casual Christian, if you lose your virginity, you just try not to tell people. Purity culture, also in my experience, is also heavily emphasized in cultural churches. At a religious conference I went to when I was younger, the girls and boys were separated, and the female leaders (not pastors but just women in their 20s-30s) told us that we would have sexual urges and to deal with them, we should pray, meditate, have someone hold us accountable to avoid stumbling into sexual sin, and to potentially eat chocolate (because supposedly this removes the urge of feeling sexual frustration). This was already a crazy development at our age because no one ever talked about the sexual desires of women in a more casual setting like this. I'm in my early 20s and I do believe in Christianity, going to church, and loving others as Jesus would, but even as a more liberal person - I still have a lot of sexual shame and do not want to participate in the act of penetrative sex. Even people I know who are engaged are not supposed to live with their significant other before getting married because they are NOT allowed to have sex, as per the church and their families. My cousins are engaged and will have their fiances over, and our parents assume that my cousins and their fiances are sleeping in separate rooms...sorry long ramble to say, the younger generation (for people I know) holds less traditional values but there is definitely a lot of sexual shame all around. Like my parents would never let me travel alone with my boyfriend (if they knew I had one lol).
