VeggieTales: LarryBoy and the Bad Apple - Black Mage Maverick

- Probably the weirdest topic I've ever covered for a video, but hey, VeggieTales means a lot to me, and I wanted to celebrate its 25th anniversary...by reviewing a PS2 game about a cucumber wearing spandex.
You know, as one does.
#VeggieTales #Review - Ігри
So let me get this straight
All the updates, delays, sleepless nights, and weeks waiting painfully for a new Maverick video.
And it’s a Veggie Tales PS2 game?
WORTH.THE. WAIT.
I just realized something: The letter at the beginning of the original episode was about a girl who struggled to play video games. And Petunia’s weakness is video games. And yet, of all their stories, and despite their warnings about temptation, they made this one... into a video game.
Yeah, I always found that kinda funny, even as a kid.
Black Mage Maverick I didn’t realize it until just now, and I’m 21. It is hilarious, though.
I always thought that it might have been a little way to promote the game when I was little
To be fair, they did include a parental timer in the PS2 version so parents could keep their kids from playing for too long.
@@cameronthomasfunnyclipsWould’ve like a DS game co-created with Altron with levels based on different stories.
0:56 You know it's bad when even a christain show with it's targeted demographic being young children points out how stupid censorship is.

Larryboy: Arkham Knight
Lone Reviewer they’re gonna tone down some shit tho
THAT WOULD BE COOL THO TBH!!!
You're never letting go of that wrecking ball bit, are you?
Hello, Mr. "It's Just an Onion."
Probably wrecked his head a bit too badly.
@@cartooncritic7045 Interestingly enough, one of the Veggie characters IS an onion
.... Dio. Steam roller. I don’t think I need to say anything more.
Coming From Mr Roado Rorada, Wry...

As a Spyro fan, I know this feeling far too well.
StephanieSparda Still did it tho
Whether or not I regret it is unclear even to me, but I still loved playing through them
@@Brobuscus101 I go for everything in the games all the time. I have no regrets. lol
Always nice to meet another Christian who makes wholesome content. UA-cam can always use more of that.
Agreed
Amen
Says the guy who makes dead rising content So wholesome
No offense
@@sarareeves714 I wasn't referring to myself with that content. I just meant in general I always appreciate seeing such.
0:22 all of the above
*I'm a Larry go round.*
I'm a big fan of Veggietales and its pretty much my childhood, but i never expected this
And i never expected it to actually be good
Happy 25th anniversary to this awesome franchise
That moment when you realize Veggietales is just barely older than you.
so basically it's persona 5 but with christian produce
...I hate that you're right about that.
Christian produce haha
Now I'm imaging Larryboy dressed like Joker and Joker dressed as Larryboy. 🤣
I'd say more persona 4, Since you're saving others out of places that are made of their temptations (Like how in p4, the worlds are made from their insecurites or worse parts of their personality.) and other reasons
Makes me so happy to see a Christian UA-camr! God bless.
Larry Boy for Smash Ultimate
Tetris_Citadel I had a dream where Larry Boy and Sackboy were in Smash Ultimate and we’re top tier
Pipest of dreams there, buddies.
AnthonyM the Gamer Artist! Well yeah. But I’m ironically hoping for Sackboy in Ultimate.
Uhhh... interesting thought there.
I still have a cassette tape of the Larry Boy soundtrack, and I regret nothing.
I'm a simple Christian guy. I see VeggieTales, I click.
Same here
Same bro!
As a simple Christian girl, Same man
I actually never watched VeggieTales.
What the f**k did i miss out on and why the sh*t did i do it.
Maverick when Smash comes out: I sleep.
Maverick making a Veggie-tales Videogame review: REAL SHIT.
0:22 there's a fourth thought you've never considered:
how are you?
I too watched most of the Veggietales growing up. Still have all of those vhs tapes and DVD’s at home somewhere. We’d watch LarryBoy and the Bad Apple all the time on car trips. Good to know that they put some nice effort into a video game based on it!
And yes, Mr. Lunt is fantastic!
It's 25 years old now? Oooooooooh maaaaaaaaaaaaaaan
As someone who completed the game 100%, I can confirm that the hide-and-seek kids are treated like their own collectible with unique concept art and music unlocks. No sheet music or other special rewards for finding them.
Well then. Thanks for letting me know. ^^
My brother and I have been playing this game since it came out, and we are still missing one music sheet 😭 We can never find it. Could you please help?
@@dominiqueisunique41 It's been a while, but I can try to help. Do you know which world it's missing from?
@@Dinoyipi My brother actually found it yesterday! It was on the Mayor Blueberry levels in one of the mines. Thank you for responding, though!!!
@@BenjaMage Nice job on the review. I've been a VeggieTales fan for 23 years.
Not even ten seconds in and a pun is dropped...
I have a feeling this is going to be good.
#LarryBoyForUltimate
Larryboy has a video game? NO FRIGGIN WAY!!!!! I no longer care than I'm 19. I need to play it.
LarryBoy was initially meant to be the sidekick of another character named BatBob, fun fact
So the parodies VeggieTales even stretch to Batman & Robin(the characters, not the movie)
Yeah that movie is it’s own parody, and a bad one at that.
No my main question was that where's my 24 hour review on why Smash Ultimate is Objectively the best game of all time and why Sakurai is Super Saiyan God tier
No! No video should _ever_ go on for 24 hours, because it just exists as clickbait and there's _really_ only one hour of footage with ads at the end!
The #6 Runaway Guys Fan ‘it’s a joke my friend
As a kid, I discovered VeggieTales, until this review I never knew that there was a VeggieTales game. I appreciate the review either way
*insert NBC "the more you know" joke here*
There were actually quite a few VeggieTales games made but most of them were for PC only. This is the only one I can think of that wasn't made for PC.
Archibald Asparagus will be my favorite character, why? HE'S KING DARIUS!!!!
Hey a year or so later after you uploaded this, you seen the new revival Christmas of 2019, which goes back to its Christian story line, basically BETTER then the Netflix disaster?
And now you find out they fired Phil, Mike, Lisa and Kurt.
Ahh such nostolgia, I absolutely loved watching Veggie Tales growing up especially the Larry Boy ones.
I'll be honest, I actually owned this game as a small child for the PS2. While I never beat it, I think due to getting stuck on the Video Game cyberworld stage, I still fondly remember it, so seeing this just gave me a rush of nostalgia.
Shoutouts to veggietales' cousin 321 Penguins.
This was the first video game I ever played, and honestly it's a really good introduction I think. Used to love it as a kid. That being said the enemies used to scare me senseless. I still think the designs are way overly scary especially with the Grunts weird sound effects. Also the 2 music notes in level 2 also allude me as well to this day....
I'm a huge VeggieTales fan and I actually owned this game and I liked it. The LarryBoy episodes were my most favorite VeggieTales episodes heck I even watched and enjoyed the 2D animated LarryBoy spinoff cartoon. Yes the LarryBoy episodes were so popular that there was a fully-fledged 2D animated LarryBoy spinoff cartoon made.
Derrick Haggard That cartoon has by far the best cartoon opening ever, tbh
So much nostalgia, I loved veggietales when I was a kid and I still do love the older episodes. But This game was one of my first 3D platformers as well, thx maverick
This game is the most nostalgic to me, as it was the first game I beat all on my own
I was so proud that I didn’t ask my mom to beat it.
Pretty sure this was my main start for actually my love of games, that and LEGO Starwars
"Do you like to talk to tomatoes"
I’m actually more surprised that you’ve watched Veggietales before
_INSTANT LOVE_
CrasherX 2000 If you grew up a Christian, then you’ve most likely watched VeggieTales as a kid and probably still watch it when you’re older(not super likely, but possible)
Brobuscus I don’t watch Veggietales anymore now that I’m 18, but I have fond memories of watching those when I was little
Know I'm a bit late, hit I love your review and this game. You're honestly making me want to play it over again!
15:33 Facts
Glad to see a fellow Christian gamer
I agree with you about the older Veggie Tales being WAY better than the newer version. I grew up on it too, and I even have multiple videotapes and DVDs of their episodes. Happy holidays to you too! I hope you are recovering well.
I once I cried after burning through an entire stack of Vegetales CDs when I was a kid...
I had an excistancial crisis because I saw all happyness had an end just like my CD stack
Larryboy and the Bad Apple had a weirdly big marketing tie-in campaign behind it. I remember as a kid I was at a mall and I stumbled upon a launch party event thing being held for the DVD. All that money didn't seem to do much though, since I didn't remember ever seeing Larryboy again after Bad Apple.
It's also weird this is the only 3D platformer VeggieTales has, even Jonah didn't get a big console game like this, but a 3D platformer is perfect for VeggieTales... so it's super weird that the only other VeggieTales games I know of and remember are PC point and click adventure games
One, hurrah for ya bein' alive! :D Two... yeah- yeaaaah on the Veggietales thing. ^___^''
Welcome back. We've missed you.
This game must have a wild speedrunning scene.
I oughta grab this game; I enjoyed the GBA version for what it was but this game actually looks pretty neat. And yeah, older VeggieTales was fricking great.
I am also Christian and I just watched veggietales at my church school.
I should not *have* to applaud a Christian entertainment company for making a superhero who doesn't get his powers by praying but is instead just a good person anyone can follow the example of, but between Bibleman's 2 shows and the Captain Bible video game: I do.
I love that someone's actually talking about this game! Before this I only found some speedruns and one long play
On a separate note HOW DOES LARRYBOY AND THE BAD APPLE HAVE MULTIPLE SPEEDRUNS BUT NOT PUPPETEER?!
Wow...I haven't seen this game since I saw a commercial found on a Vegietales DVD...I forgot which one though, It was either a silly song playlist OR Gideon's trumpet.
The Daybreaker 7th that would be on the larryboy and the bad apple dvd
I really should watch the full Bad Apple episode. I’ve seen the others more than a few times, and I’ve heard good things about the Bad Apple.
AgentRedhead It’s a really well-made episode.
Hoo boy does this bring back some memories. I used to watch the DVD the game's based on all the time as a kid (and I still have it to this day), and I would always watch the game trailer after that sweet music video and proceed to beg my mom for a copy of the game only to be shot down.
This was a nice review, I never saw it coming and it's good nostalgia.
Ya know, It's been a while since you did a Top 10...any idea's for that? I miss your Top 10's.
Well, you'll be happy to know that my next video is actually a countdown, and that it's already in the editing phase (it's a collab, and my collab partner's in charge of the editing).
@@BenjaMage YES! I'll be looking forward to it!
@@BenjaMage i come from the future and i gotta say, i miss top 10s.
About time
I don't know if anyone brought it up yet but having the actual voice actors in this game is a huge plus too
I forgot you existed, but I'm glad I've watched the video. :)
I love this game. in my opinion it has great level design, awesome music, beautiful and colorful graphics. I've done a playthrough and speedrun of the game. I wish it would get a remake or remaster
Oh my god, I thought this game was just a weird dream for so long.
Tbh i as a non religious person im pretty indifferent to religion in general (as long it dont hurt others people shall believe in whst they want)
But your content is realy nice to watch.
Good voice, nice sense of Humor and even admitting sometimes having a bias (childood and nostalgia can be powerfull forces) and still trying to be objective.
I was legitimately was thinking about this game the other day at work.
I actually played this game when it was new. I remember anticipating its release. (I wouldve been 8 years old at the time) And I always wanted to go back to it at some point. I still have it. I just dont know when id ever play it again.
i have this game and i can honestly say it's good. glad you made this video and shared your opinion.
BRO! NOSTALGIA!!!! MY CHILDHOOD!!!!!!! Alright I'm going to find my old copy and ps2.
Veggietales was my childhood
I only remember the game through the Movie DvD's trailer.
I don't know why, but most things in the PS2 and Gamecube era gave me nightmares as a kid. Including the game trailer.
Please don’t retire for at least another decade.
The fact that this was just on ps2 & Gameboy never made sense to me
The tie to all believers and followers of Jesus between atheist, the everlasting bond that ties our hearts together...
Vegitales!
Welcome Back o7
I remember seeing an trailer for this game on a disc of an unrelated children’s cartoon based on a video game (don’t remember the game, just that it was based on one), of all things.
Huh, I had no idea you were Christian until now as I only just got into watching your stuff, specifically the Crash Bandicoot videos. Always nice finding creators who are willing to admit that given how people act towards Christians.
My only exposure to VeggieTales was the animated movie titled: “The pirates who don’t do anything.”
Mavvy, I was in the middle of listening to Rush. Oh well, you're great, too.
Actually my thought going into this video was "oh sweet someone's reviewing the Larryboy game!" Also about the hide and seek thing, muggers DO exist in Bumblyburg, one of the worst would probably be the Milk Money Bandit, who not only mugs kids, but also stalks them, it's no wonder the police were after him "for months," as Officer Scooter said.
This got my sub
NOSTALGIA! Holy crap i forgot that movie existed
i remember you talked about this game in your top 10 licensed games list as your number 1 licensed game. speaking of videos from your Maverickhunterzero75 days will the public see them again?
I can tell you loved the show, my favorite episode was Moe and The Big Exit
Deaddy Fazpool “You’re going to turn all our sticks into snakes?”
@@AnthonyMtheGamerArtist You're that guy who sells souvenirs outside of town.
ok for real tho that video on licensed games was a classic in books
I remember having the GBA game.
It was a pretty cool puzzle platformer.
Would have gotten this game if it were on GameCube but alas I do not live in that timeline.
Also, I owned Veggie Carnival for the PC as a kid. This looks a lot more robust than that.
Dope video
when you review an RPG can you please make a category called party members you lose
Yes I too love veggietales and I've seen the video game before and I've been thinking about playing it
There should only be one Bad Apple, and she's from a Touhou game!
Looking back at playing this game, I kind of wish this was remastered and reworked through Unity game engine. Who should remaster it? I don't know. But I hope Universal would give Big Idea the thumbs up if it was possible.
I miss old vegitales, anyhow you did well.
If the bad apple had been using the fun house thing while everyone was stuck, while they would have to make someone else be the level bosses, it would add a level of urgency to the games plot
HE LIVES
11:46 Todd Howard.
I really love this game. It was pretty well made for it's time. It's definitely really fun and simple also. I just wish we could get a remake or hd Remaster
11:35: uh, EA, Activision, ubisoft, any of them could work!
Bethesda, it just works.
Bad Apple is my favorite Veggie Tales episode even more then Rumor Weed and a lot of Veggie Tales fans love Rumor Weed.
The show was my childhood. And the movie was bassiacly my Batman. I am pissed that I never got to get the game when I was younger. As a kid I liked anything.
And honestly, it kinda looks like Psychonauts...
WEED EATER.
Jack The Lightning Ripper I don’t get it.
@@AnthonyMtheGamerArtist It's funny because it's unexpected.
Jack The Lightning Ripper whatever happened to it’s funny because it’s true
2+2=4 is true, but not funny.
Your a Christian? Awesome, I don't meet many Believers on UA-cam so much.
Hey something I seem to like to ask a lot is what's your favorite Character in the Bible?
Skippy Gamer1 Character lol it makes it sound fictional haha I’m sure it’s Jesus tho, or you’re reading the Bible wrong.
At 10:42 you can see larry boy a bit outside the vehicle XD
I found a few episodes of the larry boy cartoon episodes. I'm going to try to show it on my channel.
