I was arguing with someone the other day who said that they were nu-metal. They were just thrown into that category because they came out in that era. They use some nu-metal style riffs on the first two records, but they are nowhere close to being defined as nu-metal. Slipknot was the same way and they had way more nu-metal elements, but they incorporated too many other elements into their music to be placed in that genre.
I like Mesmerize and Hypnotize the most, might be in the minority on that but I think that sound was the best. Would’ve loved to see where they would’ve gone with another album
