FUCK YES! After the racing video, I was hoping to see more from you. I think the GBA was a powerhouse, and such a godlike handheld, and there are so many hidden gems out there that did so much but we never heard about that.
I love how some devs were not restricted to just 2d games but were adventurous enough to make the game they envisioned it’s insane for the gba that driver 3 and asterix and obelix xxl run and look at that good on a small handheld system - driver 3 could have been a 2d sidescoller that probably wouldn’t be very similar to the console versions but the fact the dev made it an open world driving and on foot game is beyond incredible and really pushed the gba to its limit
Super Blocky Mode is actually super important in the later stages where the amount of level geometry really starts to bog down the GBA hardware. Having the lower resolution helps things stay at a solid 20 FPS vs the 5ish FPS they'd run at other wise.
As a person who's played Battle B-Daman, it's actually a lot more fun after the later parts of the game when you can actually customize your B-Daman. I also highly recommend Fire Spirits, it's a lot of the same but has more customization options.
Maybe I'll go back and give it another shot. I loved the concept, and I've never played anything else like it, but the combat just didn't make a great first impression. It did seem like a game that got better over time though. I'll add it to my "revisit" list. Thanks!
A favourite hobby of mine this past year or so is checking my local thrift store's bargain bin of $1-3 GBA cartridges for 3DS titles, mostly finding racing games and bar sports like billiards and darts.
Despite owning and playing it as a kid, I had no idea that "Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones" contained 3D segments - the first level's 2D controls feel so awful and made things so difficult to use that I never got past them and gave up on the whole thing pretty quick.
I really, really like your content. This is the first video of yours ive seen but I'll definitely keep watching. Unlike a lot of other channels you seem to actually play the games enough to have formed a complete opinion rather than just cutting together a few gameplay clips and giving a quick generic take
@@GrapHix_PL you're totally right! I forgot about Rayman. Thanks! I'll add it to the "Missing Game" list. I'll do that video at the end before I put them all together for the Master List video.
I'm making a "Bonus" video at the end of the series that focused on unreleased games, beta versions and homebrew projects and it'll have a major spotlight in that one!
Make sure to check out star wars flight of the falcon - the 3D effect on surfaces like the surface of the death star do some wild rendering trick that is 3D in a way no other game I’ve ever seen (GBA or otherwise) is. Gameplay is really tough, and framerate is low, but it has mad gumption and is majorly 3D.
Are Tron and Kill Switch in the shooters too? Why wasn't Max Payne? Also, isn't the Sonic fighting game doing some high quality pseudo 3D? Not aiming for a gotcha, just confused.
That part where action man was going along the water was very much like the part in crash of the titans on the ds when crash is surfing across the water to the island
Dude aesterix and obelix xxl is downright mindblowing from the looks of it. I would LOVE to see some fans learn to develop some homebrew in than vein and take it to its highest level of polish. Based on the video it seems like it could nearly rival a ps1 3d platformer
@@buenogoodlive good call!! I'll add them to the list of Missing Games and make another video once the series is complete with all the games people recommended. I appreciate that!
@@CurtindoAqueleDrama you're totally right, they are. I'm pretty sure they used the models from the DS game and just stitched them together. Moving into the forground and background sort of sells the "pseudo-3d" effect well enough, but yeah, the models aren't 3D, woops.
24:55 AFAIK that Super Blocky Mode is supposed to have a higher frame rate because it´s running at a lower resolution. Not sure though if it actually makes a noticeable difference.
So many games have those mode 7 style sections like Finding Nemo or Home on the Range. SpongeBob Revenge of the Flying Dutchman had them for a jellyfish bonus minigame or Klonoa 2: Dream Champ Tournament had 1 air board surfing level per world for a couple examples
I dunno, do those isometric games count..? At that rate, you might as well have included Crazy Chase, too. I'm wondering if that low-res graphics mode in Super Monkey Ball is to improve the frame rate. Maybe. That game's biggest problem is the inability to rotate the camera without moving. It makes the final stages nearly impossible. The Jimmy Neutron game has _one_ thing alone that I liked about it when I was little. The competitive multiplayer "asteroids" game, which could be played across multiple linked consoles with one copy of the game. It's actually kind of fun, even has a weapon upgrade system.
@@GrapHix_PL haha maybe I'll do some sort of Top 20, or maybe a Bottom 20 list or something like that. I think I'll do one video with all of the "3D" games on GBC, and then I'll move onto DS with some recent release game reviews to split them up.
I put Iridion 1 and 2 into the shooter category along with Star X. I thought about adding the Spyro games, maybe I should for a missing games video later.
@@MrBraxyeah, you're right. That one is a stretch. But they sort of move around in 3D space and scale in a "3D" way so I included it anyways. I think they're actually just images of the DS version stitched together.
Home on the Range (the movie) wasn't as bad as people say, and it has a fun, different kind of villain song which I appreciated. Just a shame two of the major cast members turned out to be bigots.
You said Spider-Man 2 "feels like 10 FPS", but analyzing your own footage we can see it's actually 7-8 FPS. And they all tear in the middle while rendering. Truly abysmal stuff, unfortunately.

Yup! The shooter video is up next and Wing Commander is featured in that one. It's so impressive.
Thanks for this video! It is very interesting what GBA is capable of

I honestly used a code to get past them, there's no way I ever would have made it to the 3D stages without the code haha

@GameDreamery Awesome :D
That's a crazy ambitious project
Super blocky mode looks worse but makes the framerate smoother
Ahhh that makes sense. I didn't notice a difference, but I also wasn't looking for it. Thanks for clarifying!
Also Mario 64 port deserves to be in this video
The final video in this series is all about unreleased games, beta versions and homebrew games. It'll have a spotlight in that "Bonus" video!
