Anno 2070 - Power Games - Tips and Tricks

- Hey guys.
This is going to be a set of videos about the mission Power Games, currently the most difficult mission in Anno 2070. The start of this mission is extremely rough, being responsible for my first Game Over since I started playing the game, and an additional 6-7 more. The only other mission I ended up getting a Game Over on was the Market Crash world event, but after learning more about how the income system works (which I speak to in my Starter Guide), I ended up beating it without additional incident.
The focus of this video is on the Tips and Tricks that are necessary, but not apparent through gameplay or help materials, to beat this mission.
Additionally, in case you missed my Starter Guide, there is one more Tip I've learned since: You can upgrade Lab Assistants to Researchers by ONLY fulfilling their Fish and Energy Drink needs. You don't need algae until you have 600 Researchers.
Finally, some notes: Sorry about the breathing, it is quite loud in the playback, but eventually gets quieter. I think I was a little sick when recording this one.
Note 2: Because I was land-locked, I broke my own rule about upgrading, and ended up upgrading all of my citizens possible to Engineers for the extra income. They do give you a good amount more, but it makes it much more difficult to satisfy their needs later, during which time I was at an income level of -1000 for more than an hour while getting Executives to cover the difference. So I ended up paying for it later, and I still recommend you stick with the maximum, which I incorrectly stated was 1500. The real max is what you need to get the Congress Center, 1200 Engineers.
Final note: This is prior to the election rework, and back then Ecos did win every single election. Now I'm so happy to see the elections spread out amongst all groups, and people are actually considering the meanings of the skills and bonuses before voting, yay!

Forget that mission. On continuous I cant get 5000 ecos. they want too much damn health food, and pasta. i got a whole freakin island full of rice and another for pasta and its only enough for 3k. then try to do those other two factions as well. NOPE. i want to have fun, not stress out...
This is a very complicated way of accomplishing this mission.
I simply isolated myself on the southwest island with tycoons, made sure I get 150 researcher before Keto arrives in order to keep the oil running But I also blocked every single island I visited and made sure not to meet the Oil guy and Strindberg. Once Keto arrives I had all the time in the world to build bombers and bomb her as well as Hector out of the game. Then I did the same with choppers to the Oil guy and later to Strindberg. Once the map was cleared it was straight forward leveling and building monuments. Done.
+EraserFS yeah, you make it so simple! *_* i struggle to accomplish this mission without results! maybe i m not fast enough in building, the fucking npc declare war on me without reason and i find myself imprepared!
I like your Anno videos, the commentary is very good.
A few remarks:
You use level 3 depots. Those are armed with AA guns, and thus are exempt from Civil Defense, aren't they? That means Thor Strindberg will come and (attempt to) take them out. Was this not a problem because at this point you had already bought him out? I was also under the impression that the AI would attack offshore stuff (wind parks and fisheries).
At 12:40 I don't get it. See how you made your eco island autonomous? You could have done something similar with the techs: settle them on a beginner island, add some coffee seeds (or a production island, add some coffee to an existing sugar), buy some carbon from Devi (because you don't get oil drillers), and voilà. No trading routes required, and you can build your firebirds on that island too. Metamaterials (stealth modules) require oil, I guess you can buy that from Sokow too.
Why do you build your airports on the island closest to Keto? I just build mine on my home (tech) island. The aircrafts will be stealthed anyways, so the transit is not an issue. Is it because you can't really fit them on your home island?
You got seriously limited by the amount of mining slots. Having a single carbon factory seems like quite the bottleneck. IMHO, having a second island, and Tycoon technology, would be easier.
Did you notice this mission has 8 other parties (Rufus, Yana, Devi, Thor, Vadim, Keto, Hector, and Ebashi)? When you setup your own game, you are limited to 7 (with a max of 3 expanding). I thought that was a fun detail.
yr03ht Level 3 Depots didn't count as Civil Defense when I recorded this. Thor ignored them, though they took down the majority of his craft when he finally did declare war on me. Turns out I could have bought Thor out easily with my income and just didn't figure that out til later >.> Oops.
I probably could have branched out to other islands, I was simply testing the waters with Thor. If I had just paid him off, this whole venture would have been a million times easier. For the Firebirds, I was still under threat from Thor (who immediately declared war on me after I killed Keto) so I needed to build them and use them as fast as possible. Plus the video I watched for inspiration built them right on top of her as well, and I thought I'd give it a try.
I hadn't noticed the extra AI, but it explains why it was way harder than a custom map! Thanks again for watching!
You can as well build terminals. Keto won't attack them and you don't have to rebuild your harbor every time you trade.
You could keep much more trading ships, she won't attack them unless you get close.
This was awesome, just did the first parts, however I destroyed Hector first, but I used your trick with the harbors. And for Thor and Vladim, I just didn't explore them, I explored most of the map except the 4 they had settled, the rest I settled with a warehouse, then a depot to destroy the warehouse. That made it impossible for those two to take the island, making them unseen to me. Saves me playing all of their games. Now just to destroy them with my remaining 8 firebirds =P.
Yes. You can destroy 2 level 1 houses, build a fire station, fast forward, and destroy the fire station in a few moments if you are fast enough. My recommended city setups, which you can see in my Anno Finale videos are setup in a pattern which puts the necessary number of level 1 houses within range of any disaster. Most disasters happen on the outsides of cities, but if I have to bulldoze a few homes to address a problem, I will. It's a unreasonably huge financial gain for a small effort.
Yeah, sometimes the map spawns are terrible, especially on the hardest settings. I've found from my Finale video's map, that river slots are the true limit on your Eco civ size, because you cannot get sand/noodles underwater. Tycoons technically have no such requirement, you could buy Concrete directly if necessary. You may want to look into setting up trade routes... ugh, like that maps not hard enough without NPC trade routes...
whats the deal with Strindberg? i spent so muc cash to get on good terms with him an even on the best of terms, he'll just suddanly declare war on me, no ultimations or anything, best of freinds an suddanly declared war... i dont understand how do you keep strindberg off your back??
My god this is silly mission. I don't really like how in anno as soon as you are theoretically able to build military the AI comes and destroys you.
Hero Ebashi is a very intelligent but annoying person... He gives you a „Collect these items“ mission (while you don’t have unlocked techs) and at the end of the mission, you have to buy one of his submarines to complete the mission...
Have you tried purchasing his 8 hour immunities to war? It's far easier than playing his silly games, and extremely cheap when compared to Hector's.
Remembering the name 'Thor Strindberg' isn't really easy, does it?
man is there a way or a hotkey to stop ships movement ? cause i just started to play this again and i kind of remember there was a way to stop movement of units
it take 6 airfield full of choppers with upgrade to hunters to destroy Keto, only couple survive

If it's not a game glitch, then make sure you have enough of the lower levels first. You need to have a large percentage of your population a lower level than you max. You can see for sure in the City Center, under houses. Look for something that says "Worker Housing 551/551" for example. If you have more than your maximum, you cannot gain more Executives, and need more Engineers. Sounds like you lost Engineers with those Execs. Start from the bottom up!
You right about the thing that this game "does't" have a good tutorial....witch is really bad cose it's not a simpe rts....
but this game is better than sim city 5..

Worst mission design possible, there were a hundred different ways to make it hard and fun, in my opinion they chose hard and stupid.

in the first 10 minutes.. Hector discovered me.. and destroyed my only ship, some minutes later, that b*tch strinberg declared war on me, and form a blockade on my harbour. like.. what am i supposed to do?!
Hehe, well, you can always restart, but I restarted twice, and the second time I just reloaded my first "game over" and continued. I didn't have a single warehouse for about 16 hours. You have to play nice with Thor until Keto is eliminated. If he's not taking down your fisheries, you can just ignore him. Hector will actually love it if you ally with him against Thor for now. It's best to butter up Thor with his extremely inexpensive non-agression pacts, but I actually didn't notice how cheap they were until I had been pacifying Hector for the entire game with his considerably more expensive one. Really, just getting money will buy you infinite time, until Thor has a certain number more islands than you and declares permanent war.
ChaosFX hm.... ok, i'll give it a shot, althrough playing 'nice' with thor is nearing impossible.

Ironically, it's just like real politics. First you do something that pisses him off (aka, build ammo) and then he demands you stop. You conceded and sell your ammo plant (or missiles, or airports, etc) and suddenly you're doing him a favor by bowing to his demands. Even though you have this massive ammo stockpile now and the plant has been paused for 6 hours since your warehouse filled up... It's all about forced concessions. If you do that constantly, and take a few key islands to put him behind you or even in islands, it delays his declaration of war by almost 40 hours.
ChaosFX so... basically just show em whos the boss eh? anyway. your tactics worked, all that is left of that basterd thor is nothing but ruin.
love the video tips but I literally want to vomit from motion sickness because you move around so much. This video would be so much better if you QUIT PANNING AROUND OVER ONE AREA SO MUCH.

Don't waste your money on Thor. Claim as many islands ahead of him as possible and wipe him out at the first opportunity. His role is your nemesis, moreso than Keto. Keto will only attack military structures, and if you're sneaky, not hinder your expansion. He demands you slow your expansions and builds aircraft to attack civilian targets. Thor is never at peace with you, he is only not at war. ;) He will attack once his force is greater than yours regardless.
please help.! why my inhabitants doesn't envolve now..? i got all they need and the money bar is on the green... they was executives but a typhon destroyed them and i rebuilt now houses.. now remain as workers .... what i have to do??
This is already overdue, because in the latest patch Thor Strindberg declares war on you without warning, right before Keto shows up. That means you need to have FLAKs in a fast pace, or else you're eliminated by his choppers.
Because of the game's design, they are actually not required and you save a lot of money by not having them. You can simply build them when necessary and they will immediately go to work, then demolish them when the event is over. They waste valuable real-estate, cost money to upkeep, and the amount you need to reduce the chance of an accident to close to 0 is not cost/land effective. You have to babysit everything, but this micromanaging saves incredible amounts of funds. Watch how I handle it.
I didn't yet. But it's a good idea for sure. The stupid thing is that there are only two islands with a river.
Eh. My cannons crushed Keto's initial ship rush. Was amazing. Killing her main ship was a huge pain in the ass though.
