UKSL MacLab - 2017 13" MacBook Pro A1708 LCD Flex Repair (Dustgate)

This MacBook Pro had a fauly causing the LCD panel to loose colours when the screen is opened. This is NOT Flexgate which only affects the screen illumination backlight. Some people are calling this Dustgate although its caused more by hard grit getting trapped in the 2 x big LCD Flex cables under the screen.
The grit punches through the LCD cable and stretches the fine copper tracks causing them to crack. The connection is disconnected when the LCD cable is stretched as the screen is opened.
We stripped down the screen, removed the glass logo cover and retaining springs allowing us to inspect the cables fully.
Once we had found the defect we soldered the tracks back together before coating the repair in UV conformal coating.
This area of the cable does not actually flex very much as it is located Inside the screen.
