Since it has USB4 ports, you should make a thunderbolt eGPU enclosure with a water cooled GPU in it that supplements this mini pc. Just throwing a cool idea out there.
There's also acrylic specific glue that's just an acrylic solvent so it melts the acrylic slightly on both sides and forms a chemical bond. Super strong and transparent
Big box version for launch box is highly recommended. It works great for when you plug it into a tv. All you have to do is open it with a keyboard and mouse first and then the rest is handled by a controller.
Thanks Alex! I'm a tinkerer at heart, so i think all my skills are just a collection of things I've picked up to take things apart and play with them haha. Thanks for watching!
@@ZacBuildsHi! Sorry this reply is 9 months late, I also enjoy tinkering with stuff sometimes, and im interested in building a PC into a Wii U to run Gamecube, Wii, Wii U games, and more (through legal dumping), any suggestions on what to use, info for me to know, what preparations to have, etc? The reason I want to do this is to do something unique, and I thought I would ask you with all the stuff I have seen on the channel
Hey! I would suggest you to take a picture of the IO and import it to fusion and you can take mesument there witch is more effecent and gives you a better view of what you doing :)
A measuring tip: get a printer scanner, lay the board horizontal (can't let it be sideways with components) and use the image as a backdrop of the design software. You can then take some reference measurements to scale the image properly and more easily sketch around stuff, measuring as you go to make sure things match. Taking a picture with a coin works well for more complicated stuff, but it's more prone to error due to angles and field of view.
Nice look, also a neat extra, with USB 4 you can use an external GPU Box and make the system even faster if you want to, pretty much turning it into a legit high end PC gaming rig. There are tons of options now for them and they work really well with the newer Ryzen APUs. And, as a bonus, if you are gonna use this portable, you can leave the external GPU attached to wherever your main Monitor is and move the rest of the machine around nearly plug and play. I agree with a lot of the posters too, grab Big Box, the paid version of Launch box. It's worth the small amount paid and gives you even more flexibility.
Love the video, my only complaint is that the minisforum um690 is almost $715 USD. At that price point, you can probably build an itx pc and go from there. Sure, this already has the “parts” put together, but it’s just a lot for a “DIY” build. Love the wood working elements. Might try that part on an itx board and an off the shelf agpu
Trust me I tried costing this out as an ITX build and by the time you get everything you need you end up being just as expensive and your foot print is significantly larger.
pssssst. pro tip for marking stuff where to drill for u :) instead of hammering it in and potentially breaking things like the pcb .... paint the tips of the stands with a sharpie and put it where you want it. the paint wont be dry and you will have some decent markings there to work with ;) this works in all kind of situations ;)
I think it would be nice to use brass mesh on the fan sides so that when you intake air it helps filter out the larger dust particles. It will also add a bit of class to the somewhat bland look of the hexagonal holes. Give it an "old radio" aesthetic. You could also use cloth or screen door material of you wanted a different look.
Minisforum released EM680 which is Tiny and EM780 with 7th Gen AMD processor will be coming out soon, they're so tiny you can mod them, make them more efficient and tuck them behind your TV freeing up all that real estate, making the setup even cleaner and minimalist. I'd really recommend an emulation focused linux distro as there are a few out there that offer a launchbox like Ui except that they're completely navigatable with a controller and would give a much more Console-Like experience especially for couch gaming.
Nice build, Zac! This is probably going to be lost or not read, but is there any reason you didn't use the original case to use for measurements? You could have put tape over the OG case, hit it with pencil and had an easier time maybe? I did something similar to an old laptop build I did and it worked out fine.
I was just gonna post this, additionally, if pencil would be too much time, you could also use spray paint for a better contrast. Then, to get those measurements digitally, scan that stencil from a printer or phone, then, convert that into a real measurement based off of th scan size.

I am confused... did you glue the acrylic to the wood case on both sides? What happens if you need to work on the pc at some point? Like if ram goes bad, or your wifi card shuts down? Do you have to break into the case to access the internals? Up to that point, I was loving the build, but gluing it together really is messing with my head...
Cool build, Zac! I love this everything console series. I think the integration of walnut adds a lot of aesthetic to the computer. Just a small gripe I had is that Moore's Law is actually dead. We can no longer double the number of transistors on a chip every two years due to physical limitations. The transistors are giving more issues than solutions when you shrink them down past a certain size. Fortunately, people are researching ways of overcoming physics with molecular electronics (one example) being proposed as an alternative. Essentially, molecules (much much smaller than the smallest transistor currently) can be used as transistors. Currently, there is no real success in this venture apart from a select few molecules. Oh don't worry, I 100% agree with you. Moores law is dead and I say it to people all the time. The exponential growth of technology through the 80s 90s and early 2000s is a thing of the past and I'm sad to see it go. I remember being a kid and having a computer that was 2 years old was basically a relic. These days a 5 year old computer is still serviceable. As you said were running up against the limits of physics. I was just being silly and joking around in the intro

Protip: anything that's flat you can drop in a flatbed scanner to use as a reference to place holes very accurately. Could have made more form-fitting port holes if you can keep the board propped up on a scanner long enough Works well with 3D printed parts but probably better not to cut the wood down super thin to get proper clearance on the plugs, and definitely better not to countersink acrylic that thin.

I love this design! There is only one small thing I would personally do and that's take some 3/8"x3/8" (or smaller) long square stock and cut a rabbet in it. Cut those pieces to length and fit them in to make corner trim covers for the acrylic joint. This way it will hide the glue joints and help "box" it in. Wouldn't be that much more effort and I think would make the concept look much better. You could even use a different wood to add some contrast. Maybe sapele, rosewood or bloodwood? Also what did you do about the other buttons on the system? Also was it ever considered during planning to drill bigger holes for the mb mounting supports to fit it in rather than cutting the corners?
Dude thank yoh so much. When I first started youtube a couple of years ago I didn't think I'd ever hit 100k, so honestly already feels like I've exceeded my own expectations by a large margin haha

impressive build, well done! how do you like the 8bit pro2 controllers? I have their supernintendo style controllers for my arcade, they are well made!
I think this is now a goal of mine (buying a mini-PC for emulation, minus DS/3DS, Wii U, and Switch games), freeing up my main PC for daily tasks and, well, PC games. Does adding the two fans and paste drastically increase cooling, or would I be fine without those? That said, I most likely wouldn't overclock said mini-PC.
Question: would it be possible to take the internal components out of a PS5 and an Xbox series X, combine them in 1 chassis with great cooling and an HDMI splitter to create a console where you can seamlessly switch between the 2 depending on what game you want to play? Haven’t seen it done yet but I’m sure there’s a very complicated way that someone with more money and time than me could achieve
Awesome build, I subscribed to your channel after the mk1 video. The only issue I’d have with this one is the fact the case is glued together, makes fixing or modifying very messy 😓
Thanks Jackson, it's not actually fully glue together, the top half just pressure fits in place. I was going to use a very light glue so I could get in there if I needed to, but when I put the top on it was so tight I figured screw it, I'll just use it like that.
Hey Zac will you ever sell or maufacture more of these emulators? In my country it is hard to find the right parts and doing it my self and your's look so beautiful for my living room
Hey Zac want a MK. IV idea? This + a portable projector + a really big battery. You could achieve the same with a laptop and portable projector, but would love to see it all in one easily carry-able package.
Bonus points, if the projector pops out of the case with some sort of motorised contraption. Although I see the problems that may be bring in a future.
Huge ask, could you give a part list? The everything console is known as a DIY emulator, but these parts are kind of hard to identify, I'm not the best with PCs.
This is exactly what I'm looking for! A mini console powerful enough to play some nice high-end emulation. The downside is that you can't upgrade the CPU or the GPU so you're stuck with it (unless you sell it and buy a new one)
The Ryzen 9 thats in this will be more than functional for many years esp doing what this is designed for. I mean u can basically say the same for any gaming laptop as well ya kno? Kinda comes with the territory in niche sff builds. Plus with how frequently these companies change sockets & try to make things as little backwards compatible as possible, upgrade proof is one of the more overrated things in PC world
I'm surprised that the board doesn't have a mini USB header you could've used like most NUCs had. Also they make a slim Noctua fan you could've added a little more headroom for cabling with.
did the little computer have a built-in CPU fan? might want to make sure you are not getting overspin, it can cause the fan to start generating power instead of using it, causing power to backfeed into the system, causing damage.
Love the build! Are you nervous about the liquid metal running and causing electronic damage with the PC on its side like that. Especially with the PS5 issues.
Yes it is, by a good margin. It's got more than twice the power budget, and the CPU cores are from the next generation. That being said the iGPU is similar, though clocked faster in the EC MK3. It's similar in power to the latest Ayeneo system. However it's got more cooling and power to play with. And the CPU is clocked slightly faster.
I was just wondering about dust. Did you put any dust filters in that thing cause if your fans are pulling in air faster then dust will also be pulled in faster or even at normal speeds. Thank for your reply and what a great job you did with the everything mini pc. I wish that I could get one. Love it.
Multi-player works great, I've had some great mario kart sessions with friends haha. You just connect 4 controllers via Bluetooth or USB and the emulators usually pick them up right away and it's good to go
I love this, looks so good. Like you I couldn’t do this now but I’m a year behind you! 21:12 Not sure if I’m being stupid but I Cant see a link to the mini PC,
Since it has USB4 ports, you should make a thunderbolt eGPU enclosure with a water cooled GPU in it that supplements this mini pc. Just throwing a cool idea out there.

Hey Zac will you ever sell or maufacture more of these emulators? In my country it is hard to find the right parts and doing it my self and your's look so beautiful for my living room
i would totally buy something like that
Hey Zac want a MK. IV idea?
This + a portable projector + a really big battery. You could achieve the same with a laptop and portable projector, but would love to see it all in one easily carry-able package.
Bonus points, if the projector pops out of the case with some sort of motorised contraption. Although I see the problems that may be bring in a future.
nah bro... cutting those chamfers on the noctua fan and watching it drop in there perfectly felt VERY right.
What was the app that you were using when taking the measurements of the motherboard? Also, what CNC machine do you have?
Uv resin would be great stays pliable till UV light is added and sets clear unless you want color
Looks great. Even more 'tie-fightery' if bevel was on both sides of the walnut.
Not a criticism! looks stunning as it is.
Next time!
Might I suggest if you like launch box, you should consider upgrading to big box.
Plus with how frequently these companies change sockets & try to make things as little backwards compatible as possible, upgrade proof is one of the more overrated things in PC world
My Man!!!! Thank you so much for sharing all of this Zac!
Thanks for watching!
Fusion of skilled carpentry and computer programming. Who'd a thunk it possible
So cool!!!!!! What was the mini computer you used for this?
I got a ad for a CNC machine while watching this
i thought you were going to jam the internal electronics of all those consoles into one box but this still very cool
Love the build! Are you nervous about the liquid metal running and causing electronic damage with the PC on its side like that. Especially with the PS5 issues.
Not really to be honest, I've seen some tear downs of the UM690 and theyve got it pretty well isolated in there.
That's a emulator beast to run PS3 Xbox360 games it's really powerful for a tiny PC and the case build is pretty neat asome work 👍
Amazing build!! I would suggest you check out Batocera for emulation its like an OS itself with almost all emulators.
I'll look into that! Thanks for the info
What was the mini PC that you used for this build & where can you get it from?
That is just…out of this world….😮
It's Amazing! I have one question, Is the everything console MK3 is more powerful than a steam deck?
I ment powerful pc handheld where it can run switch games.
Like the Ayaneo.
or the steam deck.
Nice project :D
As an alternative to measuring you could put it on a scanner and use image editing software to create a mask from the resulting scan.
True! Wish I had a scanner
@5:56 saying mm accurate yet he takes mesurment in inch xD 🤔🤔🤔 , nice video by the way :p
I was just wondering about dust. Did you put any dust filters in that thing cause if your fans are pulling in air faster then dust will also be pulled in faster or even at normal speeds. Thank for your reply and what a great job you did with the everything mini pc. I wish that I could get one. Love it.
Love these videos. How does multiplayer work on this? Or is it just relegated to a single person experience?
Multi-player works great, I've had some great mario kart sessions with friends haha. You just connect 4 controllers via Bluetooth or USB and the emulators usually pick them up right away and it's good to go
@@ZacBuilds I was hoping that would be the case. What kind of controllers are you using with it?
wondering if you could GPU accelerate this, since it has thunderbolt ports
out of curiosity did you check thermals before and after?
I love this, looks so good. Like you I couldn’t do this now but I’m a year behind you!
21:12 Not sure if I’m being stupid but I Cant see a link to the mini PC,
