    And they were welcomed to "Pomp and Circumstance" and "Rule Britannia". The Falklands were invaded in a desperate attempt of General Galtieri to keep the military junta in power. In Argentina, after the fall of the junta in 1983 and to this day, they (even today's socialist government) are lamenting this defeat by insisting that the Falklands are Argentine territory. But fact is: The Falklands (including South Georgia and South Sandwich Islands) are British, and nobody on the Falklands wants that to change.

    I was a 10 Yr old kid watching her leave, return from Weston Shore along Southampton Water. The day after she arrived back, my step dad went to work on her. As he was a docker. He managed to take me on board. Whilst he worked, I was in the Pig (crews bar), got spoilt all day with Soft drinks and sweets. Even a lunch in their mess. I met an RM WO2. I told him I wanted to join up when old enough. I served 3 different times in the British Army. Now a disabled veteran. I think seeing Canberra return was the day I knew for sure I wanted to join up. I even went to the careers office at 14. Told to come back at 15 and 3 months.
    I joined the Jnr Ldrs Royal Artillery in June 88. Ruptured Achilles tendon Injury, so either backsquad or rejoin at 17.5yrs. Being from Southampton I knew about the military port at Marchwood. Which was what I wanted first. So luckily I managed to join the RCT Maritime on Army Landing Craft, Mexeflote rafts, Tugs, LCVPS, small fast patrol boats etc. Served 3 great yrs as a regular soldier. Made local acting LCPL. I then joined the Territorial Army from 02 to 04. Unfortunately I broke my back doing a charity parachute jump on a weekend off from SAS Signals pre Selection in March 03. June 03 had to come off Selection. As went on Course with a broken back. it was a miracle I lasted as long as I did.
    My health journey is a 28yr ongoing health nightmare. Too much history to list. Now a disabled British Army Veteran. Been declared homeless bankrupt the lot. lost everything in 06. Very long story.
    I was attached to 3rd Commando Brigade RM as Commando Logistics in 17 Port & Maritime Regt RCT (now RLC).
    Had some great mentors ftom the Falklands. Learnt so much from these very brave souls.

      Right knee, and left hip needing to be replaced, possible Gallstones, new borderline thoirid issue, with swelling gone but pain still extreme Huge boil and huge abscess under my jaw. Causing the 4 teeth that needed fillings, now 1 filling, and 4 teeth needing to be removed whilst in surgery, cause my bones are rare, being stronger than my teeth. This causing intense - sporadic pain in my ear, head, toothache. Also severe obese issues, from the years of Meds, Ops, ill health. So been placed onto the tier 3 nhs weight loss scheme. All of the above hurting at the same time. Even when typing this comment. I won't ever let it beat me though. Back then the islands were left, as I have read, without military protection. But nowadays if I'm not wrong you have two warships and one submarine and also helicopters and aircraft down there.
      So I guess you can still do it.

      We don't need to "pretend" to hit their ships ... We did indeed hit EIGHTEEN ships, which shows how pathetic the task force was ... even with the great help that the US gave them, since if a country with third world weapons, With bombs that did not explode (British manufacturing haha), planes without fuel, without radar, etc, they hit a similar amount of ships in just one month. Had there been a NATO vs. Warsaw Pact combat, the task force would have been defeated in a matter of days. Regarding the ground combat, their performance was also pitiful, since they faced young people without training, with obsolete weapons, without food, without protection from the cold ... and yet in the ground combat they suffered almost the same amount of casualties (327 Argentines vs 255 British) I do not deny the absolute incompetence of the Argentine leaders, the lack of plan and preparation ... But even so, they fought with courage making the colonialists pay a high price.

      @@keighlancoe5933 Hola Cedric. Buenas Tardes. Inglaterra ha sido una nación históricamente fundada sobre las bases del pensamiento de Aristóteles y Guillermo de Occam (con una visión siempre realista de las cosas). En cambio Argentina ha sido siempre más fundada sobre el pensamiento de Platón (más idealista y de ahí sus errores). Te propongo que analicemos la historia desde la realidad, los hechos o lo empírico y con la RAZÓN, dejando de lado el sentimiento patriótico, pues tú amas a tu Nación y yo a la mía. Y siempre, desde ello llegaremos a conclusiones diferentes como que ustedes tienen razón y que nosotros tenemos razón (ese sería -creo yo- el comportamiento de niños llorones). Si pensamos como hombres adultos podemos apreciar mejor lo que pasó. Así: las 4 veces que Argentina se enfrentó a Inglaterra, en tres de ellas en 1806, 1807 y 1846 venció a Inglaterra. Sólo tienes que fijarte en los libros de historia, la información está en ellos.

    • @drgabrielcordone
      @drgabrielcordone 3 роки тому

      Guerra Mundial como Guy Gibson, Leonard Chersire, Willie Tait, Douglas Bader, Jhonnie Walker, etc. En 1982 fue admirable que hayan enviado a su flota a tanta distancia. Fueron un adversario colosal en esa guerra. Nos atacaron por mar, cielo y tierra. Pero Inglaterra tuvo -nobleza obliga a decirlo- el apoyo de la Otan y de EE.UU. y no sólo vinieron regimientos ingleses, también escoceses, galeses y nepaleses. Argentina peleó sola y peleó mal. Envío aviones anticuados a atacar a una moderna flota (sólo con su mejor arma: la VALENTÍA y excepto por un puñado de Etendart y Exocets) y el peor error que cometió fue en la pésima estrategia terrestre de aferrarse a posiciones inmóviles o trincheras como en la Primera Guerra Mundial. Pero de ahí a afirmar que los soldados argentinos fueron cobardes y lloraron como bebés, no es cierto ni honorable. Pues los propios Jhon Woodward y Jeremy Moore afirmaron en sus libros que la guerra de Malvinas/Falklands no fue un picnic o paseo y que estuvieron muy cerca de perderla y que triunfe Argentina.
      Yo me pregunto: ¿por qué tanto odio o resentimiento hacia Argentina hoy día que reclama la soberanía de la islas por vía pacífica? La guerra terminó en 1982. Con Alemania y otros adversarios no le ha quedado heridas a Gran Bretaña, a poco de haber finalizado la guerra, ya eran aliados. Pero sin embargo, a Argentina la siguen viendo como amenaza... o enemigo. Creo que ello es un error. Pues lo único que hace es alimentar el deseo de muchas personas de que Argentina tome como aliados a países mucho más poderosos que Inglaterra como Rusia y China.
      En fin, creo que hay que mirar hacia adelante sin fanatismos. Reconociendo errores y virtudes de ambos bandos. E intentar llegar a puntos de acuerdo para afrontar los desafíos del futuro.
      Muchos comandantes ingleses, le dijeron a los comandantes argentinos en 1982 que en la "próxima guerra debemos pelear juntos, no enfrentados".
      Eso en gran parte depende de ustedes. Argentina no habrá de recuperar por la fuerza las islas, pues está en su ley máxima que eso está vedado. Pero si ustedes quisieran de ellas proyectarse a nuestro continente, ello no sería bueno para ustedes.
      Ojalá sea siempre la razón y no los fanatismos la que guíe las decisiones de nuestras Naciones en el futuro. Mi saludo desde Argentina.
