- A look around some scenery in Southwestern Nebraska, along with some discussion on the Easter Red Cedar (Juniperus virginiana), which is taking over large areas of the state quickly. This looks at some of the causes and attempts at mitigating the spread of the species, and compares this to problems faced currently in the Philippines with forest loss.

I moved out of the state for 20 years. Was shocked when i returned at how these cedars are EVERYWHERE.
It's really been a fast change. It will be very interesting to see how it continues to change. One interesting thing is how the mix of wildlife has shifted as well - I'm not sure if that's related to the increase in trees as much as changes in people's practices, but it has changed a lot since I was a kid.

I remember once in junior college my teacher mentioned "native species can be invasive" I never thought too much of it but now I know whats happening in the prairie of Nebraska,kansas and Oklahoma
It's an interesting phenomenon once the balance is upset by a new or missing action or organism.
