- In my opinion, Dragonframe is the best stop motion animation software out there. It's very affordable and is excellent. But, learning it can be a little daunting. In this video, I lay out the basics of what you need to understand to get started making #stopmotion animations in #dragonframe
Kit that I use for my stop motions:
Monfrotto tripod: amzn.to/2Us9J8E
Godox SL-150W continuous light: amzn.to/3iTiXEb
Honey Badger 320 - 2 light flash lighting kit: amzn.to/3CUz4tm
Fujifilm X-T4 mirrorless camera: amzn.to/3swz9hV

this is an excellent starting point- thanks!
Thank you, this is so clear and helpful!
Thank you so much… This was very helpful 🙏
Thanks George. I have been using Dragonframe for a couple years now and there is still lots to learn but hard to find information.
thank you very much for this video
Great video! Thank you!
Thank you so very much. Exactly what I was looking for. Many thanks
No problem! Eventually there will be more dragonframe videos. :)
Hi George
I just downloaded the evaluation copy of DF 5.0.4.
I was able to set the file naming setting to a maximum of 10 characters by going to Preferences:Naming.
It’s not that great but it’s better than the 5 letters that was mentioned in the video here.
I was expecting more tutorials since like you said the DragonFame website is somewhat outdated. But thanks for the introduction to the software.
Ah awesome! I will definitely fix that on mine. There will be more videos very soon. As soon as I did this video I was inundated with jobs and haven’t had any time to do more… but they will be coming again very soon.
Hi George, great video, thank you! I too was rather bemused by hi-res preview function. I'm just getting started out in Dragonframe and have had issues with flicker.. I think it was due to using strobe lights. I have tried with continuous lighting and it seems to solve the issue, so I was wondering how you got round the problem when you use strobe? I was doing all the basics right like blocking all daylight, Manual mode, longer shutter time etc.. be interested to hear your thoughts! Thanks again, Bertie
Hi Bertie! I should’ve mentioned with strobes price really does matter here. Cheaper models aren’t consistent with their output. A way around this is to slow waaaay down and give your lights ample time to fully recycle. Or buy higher end lights that are super consistent with their output.
@@GeorgeFairbairn Hi George, thanks for the quick repsponse. I thought I had replied to this yesterday but evidently not. I have some Neweer 300w strobes, so not really cheap but not high end either. I did a test with some cheap continuous lights yesterday and that resolved the issue thankfully! I may invest in an LED panel also. Thanks again and I look forward to seeing more of your vids on Dragonframe soon! B.
Thanks for the video! Is there really no way to delete frames in the middle of the animation? I haven't started using Dragonframe yet and maybe just need to check some more in-depth videos, but I figured there would be a way to adjust/move the frames around within the animation, or is that not the case?
As far as I can tell… no. It is one of the more annoying things… I usually flag it and delete the file when I move onto editing everything.
I'm using Dragon Frame 5, and I just found it out all you have to do is be in the animation tab, on xsheet, and where you see all the frames(frm) right click on the one you want gone and click delete, idk if you know thos already or not, either way hope this helps
Hi George. I noticed you were using a Fujifilm X-T2 which happens to be what I have right now. I can't seem to get the camera to take images through dragon frame without the lighting changing slightly in each shot, so the playback flickers a lot. Is there anything special you did to get the XT-2 to function on Dragonframe? I can't seem to lock the exposure in the program and I've tried everything on the camera itself, it's driving me nuts!
Are you using continuous lighting or flash? If it’s flash, it’s inconsistency of power… which happens with cheaper flash heads. I hadn’t had that problem with continuous lights though, but I tended to mainly use flash, elinchrom quadras
Hi have you thought about getting the M1 Max 16 inch 10 core cpu and 32 core gpu with 64gb of ram and 4tbssd hard drive and then trying Dragonframe 5 with it ?
If I could afford that… yes. :)
what about hand drawn animation I need help I want to create good quality hand drawn animation DF you need expensive cameras which for me not sure I need to open that much but I did build a multiplne camera setup (old school Disney ) Im just researching cameras currently have a Panasonic Lumix kinda don't want to buy a new camera . I do like the dragon frame I can see the work live on computer and go back and forth
Hello, I wanted to ask if this is a single payment for lifetime use or is it a monthly payment.
Lifetime.
It seems to be yearly subscription.
