    Inside of the governor when the engine is running at the right speed without load does the governor's push the disc to the top and then when you get a load the disc goes down and that opens up the throttle until the disc comes back up to the top to keep the right RPM for the load is that correct and if not explain how it works? Thank you

    The shaft coming out of the engine doesn't seem to move very much on my H 30 how much should it move when the engine is off

    Do the three four and five horsepower to be set at 3400 RPM full throttle no load and if it is not how do you get it there ? is that adjusted by the spring? You did not show how that is to be adjusted

    Hey Ken I know tis a year later but I have same engine in my ariens different model snowblower but same duel PTO . I believe it has a govonver issed also It runs full throtle the whole time will not adjust from throtle lever and check to make sure previous owner did not crank up the idel screw . I think ill try to readjust the govoner it might of been messed with by previous owner . Question what symptoms drew you to believing govoner rod was messed up?

    • @KensSmallEngineRepair
      @KensSmallEngineRepair  3 роки тому +1

      The governor rod was messed with by the owner and was bent up so badly it would not rotate freely. Also the end of the shaft was cut short so the governor arm could not be attached and tightened to the shaft properly. I actually just spoke to the owner of this engine the other day and he told me it worked flawlessly in 15” of snow!

    Hey Ken, what did you end up doing about the Pulleys? Did the customer spring for new ones or were you able to get them off? It sounds great now....

      He ended up making a special clamshell style puller which was thinner at the edges so it fit behind the cam pulley and a 2 piece puller for the crank pulley

    If you don’t mind me asking...was it cost efficient to repair vs swapping a Hemi Predator on it?

    • @KensSmallEngineRepair

      Part was shipped for about $13 total. A little permatex and about an hours labor. I think it was worth it.

      @@KensSmallEngineRepair very detailed video. I find the tecumseh's are very happy and healthy around the 3,600-3,800 rpms at full send.
      You should be doubling the cost of parts as well, even though you didn't use an OEM gasket, bill out the permatex too. Also a good time to up sell a tune-up too...since the engine is apart. Usually when I have to pull an engine, and the machine needs belts. I just eat the labor and upsell belts (charge for belts) easy money. TELL ME ABOUT THAT TACH YOU HAVE!

      JASON it is a DTI TT-20K tach. You can buy at Amicks online for 100 bucks. I’m giving one away if I ever hit 1000 subs. I love it. Been using it for years, especially on saws. Older Tecumseh engines I don’t go above 3400 UNDER LOAD. Just insurance so it doesn’t throw a rod.

    I have an 83' 5hp Tecumseh snowking on a Craftsman snowblower and I think the governor is messed up inside.
    Heres whats happening, its fine at full throttle, if I bring the engine down to about 2000 rpm it wants to fall on its face and die which is around mid way down on the throttle, if I drop the throttle all the way down, to where their is minimum spring tension on the governor arm (slow), than the engine races, runs wild. Soars up past 4000+ rpm, once that happens, I loose control of the engines rpm response at any throttle setting.
    What do you think? Are my flyweights inside on the governor bad, or what??? Thanks.
    By the way, I tried making adjustments externally already, adjusting the arm, spring tension etc, that made no difference, so I'm almost positive its on the internal end of the governor.
    Let me know what you think, thanks.

    • @KensSmallEngineRepair
      @KensSmallEngineRepair  4 роки тому

      When you say it’s fine at full throttle does that mean it maintains this rpm under load? The governor should be able to maintain any rpm when a load is applied. The fact that it acts strange at 2000 rpm and at idle sound like something is amiss. I’ll be doing a live stream tomorrow if you’d like to discuss further. Hit the bell and you will be advised when I go live I would be glad to discuss during the live stream.

      @@KensSmallEngineRepair Yea, when I start it and run it at full throttle, 3600 rpm it runs fine and also under a load. It will hunt a tiny bit, but thats the carb. But as soon as I drop the throttle down below half way, which according to my tach was about 2000 rpm, the engine was falling on its face (wanting to die). So I had to set the low speed at 2000 which is still a little high for idle, it should be able to go down to 1850 and idle fine, it cant, than, if I drop the throttle lever all the way down to where the slowest running point would be, the engine starts to race, run wild well over 4000, maybe 4500 rpm, danger territory, like, run it like that long, it'll throw a rod, once that happens, even if I try to bring the throttle arm back up to full to get it to respond, it looses response, will not respond, it just keeps running wild, racing, no matter where the throttle lever arm is.
      So I have to shut the engine down and repeat, restart it at full for it to run normal again. Yes it also will maintain under a load with augers spinning at 3600 rpm, When I drop it all the way down, I watch the spring on the arm release tension to the governor arm all the way like it should, and instead of going slow, bam, starts racing. So I'm definitely thinking its a damaged governor in that engine. You come across that before, I'm thinking the flyweight's must be messed up, or the governor gear itself inside, because externally everything is okay and as it should be. Have you seen one of those governors go bad inside before. Maybe the clips that hold the flyweights broke, so their just kinda flopping around, something of that nature. That's what my guess is. You?
      Its a dual shaft engine, so it has the extended cam that comes out the back cover.

    • @KensSmallEngineRepair
      @KensSmallEngineRepair  4 роки тому

      Fearless it’s entirely possible the the governor blew apart internally. I’ve had them over rev and blow apart before. It a single or dual shaft engine? As long as you can get the pulleys off it’s simple to unbolt and remove the front cover and find out what is going on in there.

    • @Mr_Tecumseh
      @Mr_Tecumseh 4 роки тому

      @@KensSmallEngineRepair Its a dual. I have a good spare block laying around thats a single, but the governor is the same inside. So if I have to swap it out I will.
      I'll make a video of what it does and post it, so you can see.
      Because its really odd how it will run fine from 3600-2000 rpm, but anything under 2000 and its got these weird problems.

    Hi, does the Governor Control Lever Clamp (5 min 19 secs of your video), just pry off? Or is it attached by something? I tried prying mine off (gently) to replace it but it doesn't budge. thankyou!

      @@KensSmallEngineRepair thanks! My engine must be older as the governor shaft (that holds the gear and spool) doesn't have any retaining clips and is press fitted into the valve cover. Everything up to here is ok 5:46 clockwise then 6:02 you mention counterclockwise? I am confused. I don't have knowledge in this tipe of engine but I have Mechanic experience. Can you explain me more about, if is a counterclockwise or clockwise the Adjustment?

    • @KensSmallEngineRepair
      @KensSmallEngineRepair  3 роки тому +1

      The adjustment is in the direction that the governor arm would turn with the throttle going in the full throttle position For example if you are pulling the throttle arm the governor would be turning counterclockwise. If full throttle requires pushing on the throttle arm then the governor shaft would be tightened at the full clockwise position. It also depends if the governor shaft is in a vertical or horizontal orientation. The examples above are for a horizontal governor shaft and would be reversed for a vertically governor shaft. Hope this helps
