Hey... Great video! I literally just replaced my "Y" cable a week before you posted your video... Searched all over the net and there were no videos for the 996. So it was needed:) I was able to do mine pretty much the same way as you, only I was able to do it without removing the alternator. Maybe I have freakishly skinny arms :)
Unfortunately after removal, I inspected my original "Y" cable, it seemed to be in perfect condition... and on a day that was abnormally hot, I took the 996 for a drive to test the 'Hot Start' problem... and the issue persists:(

Sorry to hear that. I inspected the cable which came off and couldn't see any issues, but my problem is definitely fixed. Once the engine was warm it was really sluggish to start, now it is fine. I thought it could be the y-cable or maybe the starter motor. In your case I guess the starter motor. At least you know how to get to it now. Looks like there should be enough to get at the starter in the same way as the y-cable? I agree on no video, that is why I made one :)

@@martinhill5770 well I found my solution... the other day I was out for a tour and my battery and ABS light started coming on and off. Made it home ok.. but Alternator was making a terrible noise. Took it out to inspect and pieces started falling out. Ordered a new one, and figured while I was waiting for it to come in, I might as well service the starter. Cleaned and lubed. Put new Alt in... and now its starts like a champ, hot or cold. :)
