A TEENAGE girl born without limbs lives her life in a plastic bowl. Rahma Haruna is a bright, happy girl, despite suffering from a mystery condition that stopped her arms and legs developing properly - leaving her practically limbless and in constant pain. The 19-year-old, from Kano, Nigeria, was born a healthy baby but when she turned six months old her growth came to a sudden halt and she stopped hitting key development milestones. Rahma’s family do their best to provide her with a fulfilling life and transport her around the village in a plastic bowl. Doctors have been baffled by Rahma’s condition and some have even put it down to the teenager being struck down by jinns - a supernatural being in Islam mythology.

Honestly? I'm most inspired by her young brother, who clearly has taken on a very protective role supporting his sister. Devastating she passed away & this family will stay in my prayers.

Maybe she didn't get all the amenities she could've had, but doctors would've probably spent an excessive amount of time poking and prodding her, time that she needed to be with her family and enjoying her. American doctors wouldn't have known how to help her either, honestly the most for her they could've done is probably prescribing painkillers, and even then dosing with her may have led to overdose or further complications. I wish a lot of things would've gone differently for this amazing girl, but now she is gone, and we need to focus on her family and all the amazing things they did for her, and the life she did have.

I was raised to feel exactly like that by my mother. She would force me to watch and read documentaries and sad story’s about other people and kids. And the horrible things they went through. I was also a kid myself. And she would tell me everyday that my life is better then there’s. Meanwhile my dad was an alcoholic abusive wife and son beater. And she allowed drug addicts to assault me and enabled it. And still to this day she says the same stuff. I’m gonna assume it’s to cope with it so she doesn’t have to deal with it. Anyway the point I’m getting at is that I had to learn slowly and painfully that it’s okay to know you had a bad day. It’s ok to think that you had a bad day. Or life. It’s not right to compare your life with others. We all go through hardships. Some are worse than others. I hope everyone understands that. If you feel like your life is bad because of something or someone in your life causing your pain. Then please don’t just think “ well others have it worse, so I can deal with it “ fix the problem yourself ! Don’t just pray. It’s YOU and ONLY YOU. Who can fix your life.

I 100% truly respect this family, they tried looking for work and selling things to try and get her help before reaching out to the public for help. I pray she gets some kind of treatment and can hopefully one day live a life on her own without relying on others 🙏

Nothing can harm a person or benefit a person expect by the permission of Allah.
It is against Islamic doctrine to believe that jinn curse people and cause deformities. They can possess people and make the mentally insane but they cannot curse them in a way that makes them have a condition like hers.
That was simply a test she recieved from Allah, and that her parents were tested with.

And I agree about the family. Especially where they are from, the fact that they loved her and cared for her is rare. Even today in countries where disabilities are understood, many still give up their child.
Although it has improved over the last couple decades, it's still more common in those areas to dispose of children born with defects. Even without defects.
Children born without skin pigments (Albinos), are rarely kept alive at all. Deformities are often linked to superstition and thus they are living reminders of displeased deities.
It's sad that she passed before meeting a better quality of life, but I hope that in her wake, awareness will encourage more people to help. So that the next person will have a custom device of comfort to mobilize them, tools to be more independent, and medical treatments and meds to make it easier.
That family deserves financial help for their sacrifices and I hope they get it. But I also hope they pay it forward in other ways.

It's nice to see the family actually care and love for her and aren't ashamed of her. It's usually that the parents are ashamed of the disabled child and become outcasts in their village. At least, that's what I've seen in many documentaries featuring disabled children in third world countries.

Nigeria is DEFINITELY third worl. I am African and I know it. Even Botswana is classified a third world. Gabon is. The fact that Nigeria is more populated does not make it richer, or does not improve on human rights. There are many children in Nigeria who cannot access education or even health care, whereas in smaller countries the percentage that have access to primary schools is higher. Can we just be honest and see that Nigeria is no more developed than other West African and central African countries? Yes, you have more industry, but that is not all and all. What about per capita income?

If you look up courage in the dictionary, this young woman's name should be the first word. Without a quality of life, she still has hopes, and dreams, and has not given in to life's obvious cruelty. I admire her. How can we be so unhappy and filled with disparity, with all our limbs and abilities. This is humbling, and eye opening. God bless her and her family, I pray one day, all her hopes and dreams are granted by God himself through Jesus Christ.

We cannot say God is the fault of these things or anything, if we take responsibility for our own doings than we need not blame anyone, especially God. This young women was simply born with defects, it happens it's not because if cruelty or God not being there with his graces and mercy, she too has a purpose and part of that is to encourage others and also humble them. Here a women born disabled, she has no legs or possibly if engaging in a normal women's life, yet she has drive, intelligence, ambitions, heart, courage I could go on, point is she has not blamed God, or anyone else. She simply lives and strives to the best of her abilities, with the help of a obviously loving family, God is very much at work here. Sometimes the forest can't be seen, due to the trees. Right? I've been compiling these and show them to the kiddos. My biggest hope is when they run into people who are different throughout their life, they react to them as they would any other person, with kindness, grace etc. Kind of takes the shock away from it so they won't stare or accidentally say something disrespectful. It's just an added bonus to also take away the lesson that we are truly so blessed when you think about situations like this. Makes you grateful for the simple things in life, and stay humble.
