D4 has been incredibly boring for me so far. I struggled to maintain interest in the game just to get past the content that was available during the betas. Once I got past that content I ran smack into more of the same. Unfortunately, this type of ARPG has little to no replay value for me. Not sure if I will even play into the end game before going back to POE to prepare for the next league start.

@@gaspara9817 I have not completed the story yet, because the game pace is so slow. There is so much empty space between events and I just get bored. That said the game narrative is a good one and I have enjoyed it so far. Also, gameplay trumps story for me every time. The main difference I see between the two games is diversity. D4 has 5 characters with maybe one or two viable gameplay options. POE has dozens of different skills that can be used with dozens of different character ascendancies. And that is only the beginning of the diversity within POE. D4 had just been boring. I was so excited for D4 after playing the beta’s that I skipped the whole early access weekend, that I paid for and scheduled time of work, so that I could run blight maps. I am not trying to convince anyone that my individual experience is indicative of how they will experience the game. Go play it and find out how you feel about it for yourself. I find PoE to be harder because for me it had a lot of more instant deaths. Even the story campaign feature bosses that have attacks that deal so much damage it nearly instant kills you. Piety when you fight her the third time I believe and she has this beam attack. That does a ton of damage.
Brinelord also has annoyingly powerful attacks. The last boss in the story campaign is a boss I've never been able to tank damage on. Just got to the point where, well I'm just gonna throw myself at it until it dies.
Later on, on the maps themselves you will at some point find an enemy with a certain combo of perks that will probably generate a few billions worth of damage and he just needs to smack you once.
Or those monsters that explode into small spikes in a star pattern. Killing too many of those at once = Dead.
So in Diablo 4 up to level 62 on Tier 3. I've found it be to very fair.
Plague elites are though pretty powerful.

Gotta say that 90 % of my deaths in Diablo has been because i was looking at my map or at my second monitor for things like altars of lilith for like 20 seconds and a pack of mobs spawned on top of my head and killed me somewhere I thought i was safe XD
So yeah I agree 100% with Zizaran when he says that you gotta be focused all the time to a point its oppressive.
But seriously if you play softcore in D4 i got a feeling that no matter how clueless you are you can still get very very far into the game ...

  • @NewSnakeEyes1

As usual with these types of videos, he didn't really answer the question. So allow me...
Assuming you have equal hours played with both games, PoE is more difficult, and its not even close.
Yes there are ground and on death affects you need to watch for, but PoE has plenty of those too. You're also slower in D4 as ziz mentioned, however the counter there is that PoE is just a faster game that necessitates the need for extra movement speed.
But aside from strictly gameplay reasons, the amount of knowledge you need for PoE is vastly more than D4. Any new player would have a solid understanding of D4 as a whole after their first day or 2 playing. This, of course, is a huge positive when it comes to mass appeal. But since we're strictly speaking about difficulty, this makes D4 far easier.
I have 750 hours in PoE, and less than 40 in D4. Even considering that, I would be WAY more comfortable jumping into hardcore D4 than PoE.

I think gameplay wise Diablo is of course slower but also easier despite the on-death effects and ground effects, you have much less time to react to them in PoE and a harder time seeing the ground effects through clutter. I will say though that the level grind on Diablo seems to be much longer for me, but probably because I'm just so used PoE's levelling at this point.

    • @Aliens1337

Visual clutter is bad in D4 too... If you go into a pack of mobs, pop a skill and there are like 50 different texts constantly flashing on screen. Vulnerable, Frozen, dmg number, crit number etc... Good luck seeing ground effect in D4 with that shit. That's why in almost every end game build, you need some way to generate Unstoppable, because mobs will chain CC you to death and you can't see the ground for shit with all the text and dmg numbers on screen.

I much prefer the "difficulty" of Diablo 4. The way you are kind of always taking small hits of some sort makes it easier to "feel out" the damage of the monsters. And as annoying as on-death effects can be, when you know to look out for them, you can intentionally avoid them most of the time unless you get CC'd. In PoE 99% of my HC deaths are just me not taking any damage for an obscenely long amount of time and then I suddenly just get 1 shot. Another thing I think makes a big difference is the monsters movement speed compared to your own. In PoE with all of the onslaught, quicksilver flasks, etc you can basically run circles around the mobs aside from the super juiced up rares. It's kind of nice feeling the pressure applied by even the white mobs constantly trying to stay on top of you. Please note that I have only been playing Sorc with minimal movespeed, so it might be a different experience on a juiced up Barb with all his shouts and stuff.
Edit: One thing I'll say about PoE is that the majority of the difficulty just comes from a lack of knowledge. So it's nice to feel like I can outplay stuff without needing to read a wiki or watch a video. Boss fights feel rewarding when I can attempt them on Hardcore and figure out the mechanics on my own (but I think Boss damage needs to be seriously buffed)

I even financially supported PoE back in the early betas. Unfortunately, I later realized that the system is pseudo-complex. The skill tree consists mostly of nodes for basic attributes. The ability to build skills through gems is a nice system, but it also lacks complexity. Skills primarily improve in simple aspects like range or projectile count, because the effects need to be more universally applicable.
In PoE, my regular goal was simply to create a combination of effects and then hack and slash through instances using 2-3 buttons.
In D4, many systems currently intertwine. Class + skill tree + item aspects + Paragon board + new effects.
The fact that you can rotate and choose the boards yourself adds a lot of depth. New techniques like "Health", "Tempering", "Overwhelm", etc., allow for a multitude of ideas. For example, as a necromancer, I can build myself in a way that when I consume corpses, I gain x% of my maximum life as tempering. Once I have more tempering than life, I become tempered and take 10% less damage. However, when a skill like Overwhelm (comparable to a critical hit) is triggered, the current health + tempering is multiplied by the Overwhelm multiplier and dealt as additional damage. The base chance for that is only 3%... but when I'm at full health (HP above 80%), skills can guarantee that trigger, and so on.
This means that effectively, I'm dealing damage with my health bar without using it as a resource. Additionally, there are things like critical hits, etc. Diablo 4 may seem fairly simple at first glance... but for those who want to, there is a lot of depth for min-maxing.

In D4 everything hits you anyway so it's a game of killing shit before it kills you, makes fighting packs of spreadout ranged enemies a complete nightmare. Every death I've had is due to unavoidable ranged attacks from 2 or more mobs, whereas in PoE you run circles around mobs and they are generally more grouped together so you can reasonably dodge attacks.
Also the ondeath effects, maybe I am too used to PoE and it's excessive ondeath bullshit but D4 felt like it took it to another level. Like you have some dungeons where some fucking orb follows you around and explodes every 5 seconds, where's the fun in that? It's not difficult it's just annoying.
Definitely enjoyed the change of pace but D4 really holds nothing against PoE for me personally, other than the story. PoE's story doesnt exist to me. atleast D4 has nice cinematics with a little cleavage from a hot demon mommy and that's enough to satisfy my brain

i was always interested in HC, but in PoE i am kind of too bad to stay alive past yellow maps and too lazy to get good.
in D4 i play HC and its a breeze. it depends on class ofc, but with Druid currently its really easy. you are tanky, do damage and it feels like almost nothing can kill you, unless you mess up hard, while in PoE you can feel unkillable for 90 levels and suddenly you are dead without any idea why.
PoE is knowledge and Skill based. it takes serious experience to play SFF HC, while in D4 i felt like i pretty much know everything i need to know after 2 days of playing. Builds are straighforward, mechanics are simple, Itemizing is super easy, because its just so obvious whats good and whats not and you find good gear without having to do anything special.
in PoE you have to know a lot about all the different League Mechanics and how to take advantage of them to get some proper gear. It might not seem much for Veterans, but for newbies beating Uber Pinnacle Bosses seems impossible.
in D4 anyone who has some experience with ARPGs in general can do all the content without issues.
So yea D4 is incredibly easy, PoE is incredibly hard. not mechanically, but in terms of knowledge required to do anything. Sure you can bypass a lot of it by just following guides, but i think you just wont make it far in the endgame without knowing whats dangerous and whats not.
In D4 i just dont really care much about what monsters i fight. i dont care much what form of devensive layers i have, because there is just one way to build anyways and the only thing that can kill me is some instakill nightmare dungeon stuff that i just have to avoid.
i Know this video is about gameplay, but even then i would argue PoE is harder, because monster actually kill you. in D4 i never feel like i have to actually evade much, or be on the move constantly, while in PoE i feel super stressed all the time, because i know if i stand still for a moment i might die.
i can see for a very squishy character, that D4 is harder, because you are getting hit no matter what, but its also very easy to not be squishy.

In PoE you need a pHD to even remotely approach end game while following a build someone else made. In D4 I can just play the game which is something I don't think PoE will never give me a chance to do due to how most mechanics in it are just not intuitive what so ever. Not even allowed to reset your tree and having to re level an entirely new character being the most efficient way to come back from just experimenting as a new player is very disheartening.

I think most of POE can be made easy to the point where you can relax in your farming, which is great. I don't like the silly one shots.
I think D4 takes considerably more mental effort to play, but most of the content isn't particularly difficult either.
I think D2 is in some ways the hardest of these three games.

Surprised you jumped on the bandwagon Ziz you know POE is harder content, it’s aimed at HC players no mechanics in D4 compare. Yet D4 has way many more players and have brought players to ARPGS POE never could.

to all the blizzard fanboys crying in every single video cause Ziz gives objective critique...please stop crying. why yall comparing d4 with poe1 at release ? (10 years apart lol) shows how low blizzard fanboy expectation ceiling is. yall would literally settle for anything cuz it's blizzard, it's pathetic. the word "skeleton" alone, in 2023, with the vast amount of examples blizzard could have taken, from other successful ARPGs to copy from, is absolutely laughable. all the games that came and this is what they pulled off ? a story and nice graphics ? dont you feel stupid defending this ?....now lets compare poe2 with d4 though, blizzards actual competition for d4...blizz just doesnt hold a candle to poe2. key difference ? a passionate team called GGG on one hand and a money hungrey billion dollar company that killed every single successful title they had by greed. go play anything and compare it to your "skeleton" and look whats actually been possible FOR YEARS now while blizz was sleeping after implementring a necro class like 7 years ago lol.

difficult no, stupid no win situations YES. To your point the lets make the dungeon hard isn't monster's or monster density, or some complex fight to learn. It's hey this floating thing is going to randomly shoot lighting for 50% of your life unless you can run back to the bubble it makes which you can't cause you have no movement ability besides a bunny hop every 5 seconds. So i say D4 is more difficult but for all of the absolutely wrong reasons. They take any skill chance away from the difficulty and make it purely just "hope you have grinded enough to withstand that hit you have zero option to avoid. Then add on the you know 4 possible builds in the game... and it's just a chore of massive grind.... Totally seeing them "solving" this with a pay to win battlepass setup in about 3 seasons.
