    Soooooo who was committing the fraud? Or was there a fraud at all? I would like those questions answered.

      Allen Huang sounds like the bank thought so, called it in and after the police arrived the bank decided it wasn’t a fraud

      it was literally a grandfather trying to open a bank account for his grand daughter so he could send her money while she leaves for basketball tournaments. they had all ID and birth certificates needed to make the account. it was when the bank worker saw that the man had over 30k in his account he assumed it was a fraud in progress.

      let's be pragmatic, the police receives hundreds of these type of calls. This one happens to be legit, there wasn't any fraud. They (the police) went in based on the info they got from the 911 call.
      BMO is 100% responsible and they will be sued... they deserved to be. The employee/s involved will be fired, they deserved to be. Seems BMO needs to do a better job in training their employees.
      Maybe they were racially profiled. I feel extremely bad for the 12 year old girl and her granddad.

    If anyone suppose to be in trouble, it would have to be that bank teller that reported this “fraudulent”. I don’t think the police officers should be punished by the public like the way they did. Believe me, I’m no fan of them either. But if they didn’t do anything wrong, I’ll stick up for them. They were just doing their job with the information they had at that moment.

    How would the information of age of 12 be "mistaken" as 16. The bank employee had her status id that would have clearly shown birth date. Plus a birth certificate.

    Since when taking charge of a situation means putting people into handcuffs “very politely”? It almost seems like the officer is reading from a screen behind the camera.

    Well explained - it's quite clear there were no racial motives. The police were operating professionally and safely handled the situation to verify the details of the situation. Sheesh some close-minded people are so quick to throw down the race card before looking at circumstances. Thank you VPD for your service to our communities.

      I'm sorry but the world you percieved is not the world many minorities live in. Historically most non-white natives and immigrants have been treated harshly and even to date there is irrefutable disparities in terms of treatment and justice. I don't understand how you could not see both the optics of this and empathize for the victims.

    • @Deanomartino11
      @Deanomartino11 4 роки тому +2

      Isaiah Smith I realize there is a race issue in this world, however this instance the police were not acting in a way that appears prejudice or because of race. They were following safe procedure to figure out what was going on at the scene. Unfortunately these days not many people like the police very much and wish to do them harm. Just recently 2 police officers in Honolulu Hawaii were ambushed and killed responding to a seemingly mild 911 call (as an extreme example of how it can go 0-100 almost instantly). The police’s operating procedure is very important for everyone’s safety and this case is no exception. I doubt if the two individuals were any other ethnicity they’d be treated any different.

    I have seen cops show up to bar fights and not handcuff anyone
    ... How is it justifiable to cuff an old man and his granddaughter? "Please have a seat over here sir while we sort things out."
    You must have no idea how traumatizing being arrested is when you've done nothing wrong. You can imagine they pleaded with the cops before they were cuffed and yet they were still cuffed. This country has a appalling history with its treatment of first nations... residential schools didn't close until the 90's. First off a person cannot be "taken into custody" based on hearsay, even if that hearsay is from a "competent individual". Adam Palmer needs to understand what the words "substantial" and "probable" mean, and then teach the rest of his cops their meaning also.
    Secondly, "standard police procedures" need to be altered. The best course of action is to allow the parties to converse and then discern the veracity of each individual.
    Thirdly, those bank employees should have been put into handcuffs for putting in a false alarm and giving false information to dispatch.
