    • @Homitu
      @Homitu  2 роки тому +9

      Edit: ugh I heard it that time around 1:15… I think the problem was I was being bombarded in discord all day long while editing this video. So when listening to the final take of the video, I didn’t think the notification sound was coming from the video; I thought it was a live chat each time. Lesson learned! Mute discord entirely while editing the video!
      Or I can just include one random discord ping in ALL my videos as an Easter egg… I’ll start auto tuning the sound and mixing it directly into the music :D

      @@ladykupo forewarning about the deck, i love them and have acces to 2, but while valheim is considered a "fully functioning game" on the steamdeck with a green check beside it, realistically you will max out at about 40 frames when youre near nothing, and near a build like this one in the video you would probably hit about 4fps. A normal big build gets you around 15fps.

      WOOT the first comment about the music! I'm excited because, no joke, A) finding the right tracks, B) blending/fading them, C) timing the video shots with key moments in the music (ie. @0:53 tying the first big sweeping shot of the portal to the sweeping string instruments that come in for the first time,) and D) sometimes even manually extending the tracks to fit what I need sometimes takes me as long as the entire rest of the video creation process combined.
      I don't quite hear Iron Man or Avengers in there, personally, but I did get some Avatar vibes around @3:14, which is why I loved that track so much. Mistlands feel very Pandora to me. I credited both songs in my description, but that 2nd one is Governor of the North by Jo Wandrini. Many of his songs were very epic and I definitely plan to use others in the future. Highly recommend checking him out ;)

    • @Homitu
      @Homitu  2 роки тому +2

      @@stevemacherey thanks for the link! I just sifted through it and think I knew pretty much all of that, if not quite to that precision. I’ve done similar height testing myself just to see. Did it with black marble as well, which is a bit stronger than stone. This is a very good breakdown though! I love TheFriendlyGamer’s stuff.
      2 things I can add to his video:
      first, at one point he mentions how iron wants to be touching ground and does NOT like being attached to stone. I always believed this to be more true than it is. I noticed with marble, while working on this build, that I could actually build with just marble for several meters, THEN place iron on top from there, and still use that iron to support future marble. That is, iron was still helping even though the iron itself was never fully grounded. So I did a few height tests with both stone and marble bases and iron on top. While it’s absolutely true that this is not the best way to build, iron does not lose as much of its integrity as I thought. It basically just adopts whatever integrity the current marble or stone piece is at, then proceeds from there with its standard iron strength. The iron itself doesn’t need to be grounded. Thought that was interesting.
      Second, there’s a smaller spawn command that will also work to re-establish a grounded point anywhere: MushroomGlowing. This is a big blue mushroom that glows pretty bright, but can be concealed within stone or marble if you want. I’ve used that one before just for fun. It used to be indestructible, which was very dangerous. But now it appears to be destructible with the hammer like a regular build piece.
      I do like Friendly’s suggestion though with that big rock, since he shows you can trim it down to a smaller part if you need.
      That said, I try to not build with something like that for a normal build because it basically defeats the point of the structural integrity system. I view that as akin to using a mod to disable the integrity.

    • @Homitu
      @Homitu  Рік тому +1

      Hey Chawky, thanks so much for the insane compliments! That really means a lot considering all the other incredible builders that are out there!
      Regarding mods, while I do make use of a few useful QOL mods, but they're all usable on a multiplayer server without any issue. (I play with friends all the time.)
      The only mods relevant to building are:
      PlantEverything - allows you to plant the plants that already exist in the game, like bushes, vines, and small trees.
      Useful QOL mods related to building:
      FuelEternal - keeps all the torches and fires you light fueled to the max without having to add wood and resin. Useful when you're just working on megabuilds and don't want to spend 10 minutes every 2 hours just running around clicking on all your torches. On a group server, this activates whenever ANY player who has this mod installed approaches an area with fires/torches. If the person with the mod is not present, the fires will dwindle down as usual.
      NoRainDamage - prevents rain damage. Useful for building fun wooden structures outside (like docks or fences) without feeling obligated to put a roof over everything. Same concept, whenever a player with this mod installed is present in the game world, the area around him will not take rain damage. Doesn't matter if other players do not have the mod. However, if others continue to play while the mod holder is offline, the areas will receive rain damage as normal.

      @@Homitu Thank you for such a great response also!
      This is great to hear that only one person would need the mod installed and it's still possible for everyone to play regardless.
      I really don't want to tamper with the core game as I think it would lose so much of its charm but being able to manipulate landscaping as you do, really adds so much to the build.
      The fact this is all core game play apart from the foliage mod, really showcases the length of creativity that's possible.
      Looking forward to seeing more of your stuff and learning from you. I expect to see your channel blow up soon 🤞

So stay tuned :) Those vids just take soooo long to make...
      RE: mods on the group server, yeah I was pleased with how they functioned as well. My buddies don't play with mods generally, so I was in the same boat, not wanting to impact their experience. When I realized how things like FuelEternal worked, I offered to turn it off, but they unanimously agreed that they liked not having to worry about torch and fire fuel anymore and wanted me to keep it on haha. It's one of those things that absolutely does not break the survival experience and just feels like a good relief after we've all beaten the game from start to finish 7+ times at this point.

      Holy crap, I don't even know what to do with that praise. Thank you, kind sir! I'm afraid it's all down hill from here lol. While I've still got several other completed builds I need to film and showcase, I'm not quite sure what I'm going to build next. I'm definitely going to return to something much smaller and simpler though. I get a bit burnt out on working on the grand scale for too long. And to your point, FPS becomes an issue with larger builds, particularly since Mistlands released.
      I talked about it in a few other comments, but I was quite frustrated with the FPS I'm getting here (11K instances) and in my favorite build area (19K instances). While I do indeed have a good computer, at max settings, I'm getting about 18-22 FPS here. I used to easily get 40+fps at an area with 11k instances, even with a lot of lights. I'm not sure what changed, but it's driving me nuts! Anyway, sadly, I had to lower some settings related to lights and shadows in order to capture this footage at the 30fps mark.

      @@Homitu Absolute same Problem here. Last Build was 21K Instances and i never got over 15-20 FPS.
      A little help brings this
      in the data "boot.config"
      C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Valheim\valheim_Data
      add the following (open with texteditor):
      gfx-enable-gfx-jobs=1

    • @Homitu
      @Homitu  2 роки тому

      @@eprimchad2576 Sorry for the late reply. "Instances" are what the game calls individual objects that need to be rendered. At any time in game, you can press f2 to see various details about the game's performance (including FPS). It will give you the current instance count in the area that is being rendered. By default with zero building performed, any given area typically has between 2-3.5K instances. Building, especially in greater detail, adds onto that. That's one of the primary factors that affect FPS.

I’m gonna try to do a spoken walkthrough where I talk about concept ideas behind different parts, some other iterations I worked through and scrapped, and some “how to” clips for some of the cooler or trickier parts of the build.

      Hey, you joke and you might not believe it, but I was 100% in the same boat when I started this game almost 2 years ago! I was building "okay" basic huts with all the essentials, struggling to get used to the snapping mechanics, and absolutely MARVELING at builds I was seeing other people post. I had NO IDEA I had any creative potential hidden inside me! I'm not kidding. I've gradually leveled up over 2 years by watching other awesome builders, gathering inspiration, and learning new, cool techniques. It really is something that improves with practice.
      Equally interesting to me is that every time I step away from the game for a couple months (ie. my Elden Ring escapade earlier in the year) and then return, building is not immediately like riding a bike to me. I get COMPLETELY stuck and unable to build anything for like a dozen hours while I relearn concepts. It's a slow skill ramp up again to get good again. It's very strange to me, but that's how it works for me.
      There are also many days where I suffer from "writer's block" for valheim building, "builder's block", if you will. Nothing comes to me and I accomplish basically nothing for my entire session. No ideas churn; nothing I try looks good, etc. On those days, I just log out, go do something else for a bit and come back another time.
      Anyway, keep at it! You might be surprised with yourself!

      This world contains each of the "biome builds" I've showcased to youtube so far. I have other worlds with many more builds to showcase, so if you're interested, feel free to subscribe and stay tuned :) Thanks for your interest!

      Heya, here is a link to a google drive that should have the world files. The world name is NoDeath, since this world was originally a no death survival run that I, of course, started building stuff in again cause I can't help myself...
      I haven't shared a world with anyone before, so let me know if this works or not. I put some directional signs near spawn as guidance. This world includes builds for all of the biome videos I've uploaded to youtube so far.

    • @Homitu
      @Homitu  2 роки тому

      Nope, no mods! (Well, except for Plant Everything for the vines on the pillars.) Integrity is vanilla with a very carefully setup (maxed out) iron network, including making good use of the new angled iron beams in spots. Also, the green/red tower is strategically built near that one tree that's high up and cuts through the green tower, which adds a vital fresh grounding point to build from.

  • @sordmasta6646
    @sordmasta6646 Рік тому

    amazing.
    i'm curious, how do you get those first person shots that pan so smoothly?

    • @Homitu
      @Homitu  Рік тому +1

      The tools are in the game's dev commands.
      Press f5 to open the console command window in the game. Start with typing "devcommands". Next "freefly" to enable that first person free flying camera. To smooth it out to max smoothness, type a final command: "ffsmooth 1". For the number, you can choose anything between 0 and 1, where 0 has no smoothing and 1 is maximum smoothness.
      Once in freefly mode, use the ASDW keys to move. Mouse scroll wheel will speed up or slow down your speed. Left click will fix your camera's target on an object in the center of your screen, causing your camera to rotate around that object. Right click locks the current camera motion you started without having to hold the button(s) down.
      It definitely takes some practice. Many shots I capture take me 10+ attempts to get them just right! A video like this consists of about 30 clips, including the 2 long interior tours. Those 30 clips get chosen out of 120+ "good" clips I captured. Those 120 good clips were plucked from 500+ bad ones lol.
