My friend was flipping cars for a while and I got to drive this guy. It's got a big engine and a great suspension. Love it. It's a beast but feels like you're floating on a cloud.
I bought one of these in January 2014. I had researched it as my commuting car to replace my VW Jetta. I found the car in Phoenix (I live in Central Texas) and went out to give it a look. I immediately loved it. Mine is almost identically equipped except for the infotainment/nav panel and display. Mine has the upgraded system. I only wish they had the Apple Play compatibility back when this was made. I'm not a great fan of the switchology for the center panel or the quick select knob in front of the right armrest, but it is an upgrade to what I had previously. As for torque steering, I personally think that this Buick has much tamer torque steering than many other similarly powered autos with manual transmissions. It is a fun car to drive and it's nice to surprise folks on the highway as to how well it jumps from 50 to 80+ on the highway when passing a slowpoke. Grandpa car. Yep. I love it.
I bought my 2013 GS from Rochester, NY with only 11k miles on it back in 2016...so basically it was brand new. Love the car...only problem I've had thus far seems to be the road noise from the wheel bearings going out at roughly 40k miles. Other than that...been a really nice car.

Great car! I drove a Opel Insignia diesel here in Europe and it's basically the same car. Opel was a GM member before being recently bought by the french I think so sharing cars and technologies like this is very common. Glad you enjoy your american/german duo car. Keep up the excellent work!
It's weird to me lol. Cadillac GMC and Chevy have spotty reliability, with most of them being unreliable. And then there's Buick, a brand that 9 times out of 10 won't fail you
I love mine. I have it up to 59,500 miles right now. Good review and I have the same color. I got you beat on the price. I bought mine new for $27,900 in 2013 - they just wanted to get rid of it and it only had 56 miles on the odometer.
Got the same exact car but mine is black. I love these cars. Love the turbo and mine is a standard 6 speed and it's so good on gas. Stylish and comfortable car. Love it.
Have a 2015 Buick Lacrosse Premium 2. Purchased it several months ago it appears to be a great car. Thanks for the after market info on the turbo charger. I will bet that the addition of the the turbo in your Regal that your car will really get up and go. It sounds like you got a great car. Keep those videos coming. All the best to you.
Good job man you did great w/ all of it. Like to see the new deck put in. Also I notice nob like for a Epic Center by right leg when sitting in driver seat.
I have a 2013 from new it has been trouble free is still a tight solid car . no rattles or squeaks . no troubles at all have 58000 + miles wish they still made it
One of the most thorough reviews ive ever watched to the point that I amn convinced I want to purchase one now. Everything I NEEDED to know was covered pretty much. I do have a question though, is there a boost gauge to see for reference esp when it comes to the Trifecta upgrade how can we measure turbo pressure increases?
There is also the 4th gen Acura TL with a 6MT and SH-AWD. What a car! Only thing I don't like about my TL is the ride is pretty harsh. How is the ride quality in this buick?
Thanks for the review. I've been eyeballing the regal for years. I prefer manual but they are hard to find. Great car either way. Thanks for the review.
@@TheDutchSandwich What type of maintenance if you don't mind me asking? Still on the fence with the car. Since I'm on the subject...how is the accord in comparison in your opinion?
Hi, I am looking at those cars around the same mileage! I was wondering how many issues have you faced with your car after about 2 years. How reliable is it and do you still love it as much today? Thanks!
Me too! Just picked up a 2013 CPO and I'm in love with it so far. Love the way it drives and handles. And this is coming from a former Mustang owner lol
My car actually came with 2010 Vauxhall VXR Recaro racing seats and it came with a 12.8-in Tesla tablet it also came with a stage 1 cold air intake from GM and it also came with the best option of all was the retrofitted headlights and I only paid 22 for it
How does the engine and transmission hold up over the long run? I'm looking at a 2014 (not GS?) automatic with 125k miles. Can I plan on getting another 100k miles out of it?
I bought this car but mine is a 2013 with 20k on it and I paid 17k back in February and I have zero complaints about anything to do with the car. I absolutely love it. Great car for the money. P.S. It's absolutely amazing what Trifecta does for the money.
TheDutchSandwich Yea I purchased the advantage tune from trifecta because I have no other mods besides a drop in K&N Filter, untill I can afford the GM Stage Kit. If you go to zzp performance you will find a whole list of bolt on parts for the Regal GS. Also zzp offers their own tuning which will cover any aftermarket bolt on unlike trifecta but I have to give trifecta credit for knowing their shit when it comes to the regal, I couldn't believe the amount of performance I picked up on both the PCM and TCM. Definitely worth the money Imo.
I own a black 2014. I love this car! I get lots of comments about it. I only wish mine was a manual as well. I also got the Trifecta tune. It definitely woke it up
I had this vehicle for 4 years. Traded it in at 95K out of fear that GM's JV squad engineering would make it a money pit. I usually drive cars to 175-200k, but my preemptive hand was forced starting with having engine rebuilt at 55k. My cost: $4400. GM THINKS it was due to a "...cracked piston, known problem..." but couldn't be sure because everything was a total mess by the time they got in there. The last straw was the ABS module failing at 95k, airbag sensor at 90k etc etc. Car is gorgeous, great handling, and I loved it, but was scared to death every fking day...
Hey nice review, im looking into getting one myself for a daily. What mpgs do you average? I mainly drive around 75-80 on the highway and just curious at what RPMs would the engine be turning at those speeds.
You’re adjusting the gain with the kicker knob. Get a kicker key amp and replace the stock amplifier that comes in most GM vehicles then that will eliminate the bass roll off usually. There’s also a setting for road noise volume adjustment that if you turn off will help eliminate the auto roll off of bass.
HEYY TheDutchSandwich i JUST bought myself a 2012 Regal GS and I can not find ANY info on how too hook up my two 12" alpine type x's in and since you have done it before I WOULD LOVEE your explanation how how you did it!! It would be MORE appreciated then you would know! PLEASE AND THANK YOU!!!! I'm also curious about how reliable it has been for you even too this day if you still have it!
I have this car, but it is the automatic transmission version. Love it. What you failed to mention (or I missed it) is that the vehicle is actually a German Opel and the performance proves it. One complaint though is the navigation system. Yes, it will get you to your destination but setting it is a nightmare. The on-screen text is horribly small and the intuitiveness of the GUI is bizarre. Likely designed by an intern.
Love the video. You.re a cool dude- "I'm weird" lol join the club. Is that a Fitbit HR 2 on your right wrist? I have one and like it more than I thought I would. I test drove a new Buick Regal back in I want to say 2012 at a big car show. I loved it then and still love it. We are thinking about getting it as our next car… A gently used one of course. Thanks for the video. Enjoy the drive and God bless!
These are really nice cars iys actually a opel ,and your so right most people don't even look at it because they consider it an old man's car , nice ride enjoy 👍
Been thinking about getting this for my next car since it's the only Buick with manual transmission and a 4 door (which I am in need of). I currently drive an '07 Scion tC with manual transmission. While I love it, it's not the ideal family car. I have a 10 month old and it's been kind of a hassle to climb into the back every morning to buckle him in when I take him to daycare.
Not True. Buick Verano Turbo has a manual as well (or auto) same exact engine as this Regal GS, detuned slightly, 250hp/260lb-ft, but it's a few hundred pounds lighter, and with a tune, is a beast.
I ended up trading it for an Accord. The fuel pump and timing chain were about to need to be replaced and it just wasn't worth putting $4k into. I miss the manual and the power for sure. The Accord is just so comfortable though, which counts for something.
@@TheDutchSandwich right on, thanks for the reply. Have had eyes on the V6 Accords. But there are 5 others Accord Sport models on my block. Actually one house over! Like Lexus IS models. Like MB E350. Then, the damn GS got in my brain. Thanks for the knowledge. Peace and health 2 U and yours.
Spencz I've never driven a Buick Regal but I drive stick and I would say try and drive a Honda with a stick they tend to be very easy to drive. Also if there's some near where you live who teaches people how to drive manual take a lesson with them that's what I did and it was a huge help
Spencz I wasn't suggesting you own a Honda but if you know some with a manual Honda it would probably be greatly car to learn on. You should give a Honda a test drive they make some great drivers cars. The accord sport and the 2013+ accord coupe v6 6mt is a fantastic car to drive. And there are plenty more cars from Honda that are amazing and really fun to drive
Honda's do have great hearboxes. This one would be good too. I don't think a specific brand will be necessarily more valuable to learn on. You learn the timing of your feet and hands and can then translate that to different brands and just learn where the engagement point of the clutches are and the shift pattern on the stick shift itself. I would say the GS would compete with an Audi A4, VW CC, and maybe a few others.
Im considering on a 2015 Buick Regal 2.0 turbo. Does the cold air intake make much of a difference in performance? Also, have you run into any issues mechanically or what not with yours? Thanks!
Christian It’s been perfect. In January I will have owned it for 3 years. The only thing I’ve had to change is the headlight assemblies. They aren’t cheap, but other than those I’ve just changed the oil and put in a new battery. It’s a great, comfortable car. I’m planning on continuing to drive it for years to come. It has 63,000 miles now fyi
TheDutchSandwich thanks for the response! I am thinking of buying one of those, used probably a 2012 or 2013. I am looking for a confortable ride and not too much repairs lol I will try one soon to see if I like it, can’t wait !!!
I really love my 2011 Regal CXL except for the fact the brakes went out (just sitting in the drive way) and then the engine terminated (just sitting in the drive way). At least these things die just sitting in the drive way.Saves calling AAA.
I'm have one just like this! Sad to say, the cold air intake makes it sound better, but the computer adjuts things to the airflow and it ends up nutralizes any power gains...
Honestly want one of these Buuuut my concern is the timing chain problem on these cars from what I gather seems to be the reason these cars are so cheap It’s a beautiful car though no doubt
Excellent review Dutch Sandwich!! Besides the depreciation issue, GM never marketed this vehicle. I just recently learned about it. Buick has come a long way. Also, there can be too much tech. I agree with you about A/C control.....who wants to be dealing with a touchscreen to adjust cabin temp? Consumer Reports was once the go-to magazine to assist people with their purchases. They also rated some cars #! and they turned out to be bombs. I appreciate you telling us how tall you are, many people forget to add that. Also, Nav is overrated. You are too funny about how you customized this car for yourself. This is an old video, and you probably have moved on. But thanks you again for bringing Buick to our attention. I'm also one who wants to drive a car that isn't as common or seen everywhere you look.
G W Grote Thanks for the thoughtful comment GW. I have only seen 1 other GS in the 3 years of ownership. I keep fighting the urge to change cars because it’s still perfectly reliable and each additional year I keep it saves me more money. My wife ended up buying a Buick Regal TourX and loves it. We’re a couple of millennials putzing around in Buicks.
@@TheDutchSandwich thanks for the reply. If it is working for you both, then that's great. I sent you an email showing that Buick wasn't always an "elderly" person's car. Before your time, they had the Buick Electra which competed with the Cadillac, not forgetting their convertible versions and sports car editions. You are doing the right thing. Keep saving money as long as the cars are working for you. Basically, that's what we all want. I look forward to seeing you and your wife in the next Buick commercial. (don't use a cane or a walker during the photo shoot) 🙂
That is a very good deal , DS . The car looks so Japanese ( which is a very good thing ) that it surprises you when you see the badges . Good for you , congratulations .
On car gurus or kbb you can find dozens with over 200k miles always google the reliability rating the regals veranos and Buick LaCrosse all got between a 4/5 and 5/5 for the last decade that’s Toyota grade reliability cuz that ties with the Camry and corolla All Chrysler vehicles jeep dodge fiat etc always get 2/5 or 2.5/5 basically trash cans on wheels 2016 Honda Civic refresh only 3/5 below average for the class :/ But yeah I’d say Buick’s motors should be plenty strong enough to mod a lot like the Honda Accord coupes motor
Enjoy your German build Regal as long as you can. Opel won't build them after 2024 anymore and we all know what happens when GM has to do something on their own. The new Regal GS is even better imo
I just got this Regal 2017, my experience is somewhat indifferent, it's like riding a horse without saddle, too much road noise, low profile tyres are adding sound of small ditches, annoying, though steer well, response is good, however it is a low space car, inside cabin and trunk, looks poorly manufactured in Canada, however it's a Buick with large experience and research behind its manufacturing. In my opinion GM had earned another negative marking.
@@TheDutchSandwich Well is there any restriction to watch? However I am wondered as to how and why peoples like cars performing poorly, dont you agree that Regal produced by an experienced car manufacturer yet failed to have it's due space in auto market? You have right to agree or may not, it's just a debate, remain cool.
Shamsul Arfeen. To say this car is poorly manufactured is a bit of a critical statement. I'm pretty sure you test drove the vehicle before you bought it. Or at least I hope you sat in it to see if it was spacious enough for you. Regardless, this car is the cheapest in its class with tons of features that actually make it a better option than its competitors. "A horse without a saddle?" My friend. These are some of the most comfortable leather seats to absorb the 275+ horses under the hood. No disrespect, but maybe you're one of those old people who prefers the older big ass buicks with a sofa for seats and a trunk big enough to put all that trash you talking. Lol.
@@yishaithegift9953 I appreciate your loyalty to the Buick Regal, reason for buying this car was obviously the brand name besides "views" popped up on social media from time to time. No doubt Buick is known for its ride, quality, appearance and existence over the half century in auto market backed by "Made In USA" stamp. I may have graded this car beyond its present quality in my mind that might have been shattered , but one thing you shall agree to me that Buick had lost its glory or had failed to upscale as per market demand.
@@shamsularfeen9793 There are a lot of species of animals, and cars that are endangered of becoming extinct. Some are already gone. The Pontiac, Hummer, Saab, The Puffin. Look at the polar bear, climate change has forced him to swim out further to sea, risking their lives and their Cubs lives to hunt seals. Likewise the Buick had to adapt as well. Completely redesigning its platform to accommodate the ever changing future. Implementing sporty turbo engines, and tech savvy leather interiors to pursue a more youthful clientele. With that, comes sacrificing some things that may risk its reputation. Next year Buick will be an all SUV market. Bye bye Regal. Now you may appreciate Buicks legacy more than me.
Christian Roche Ok let me ask you. What is the 2015 and up Buick Regal GS biggest competition?
Honda's do have great hearboxes. This one would be good too. I don't think a specific brand will be necessarily more valuable to learn on. You learn the timing of your feet and hands and can then translate that to different brands and just learn where the engagement point of the clutches are and the shift pattern on the stick shift itself. I would say the GS would compete with an Audi A4, VW CC, and maybe a few others.
Im considering on a 2015 Buick Regal 2.0 turbo. Does the cold air intake make much of a difference in performance?
Also, have you run into any issues mechanically or what not with yours?
Thanks!
That's so sweet that you refer to the rear armrest as your bae, absolutely adorable!!!
Great vid.lookin to buy one and this video made my mind up.thank you from steel city 🇨🇦!👊🙏
I have a 2013 GS and I love it!!!
Is it reliable? I'm looking for an awd model, I'm digging the sporty style
@@johnnysalazar5163 FWD.
I had the same visibility problem with my Suzuki Grand Vitara , the headrests got in the way so I took them off and now it is fine .
👍
Such an informative review. I appreciate
Good video. I'm in the market for a Bluetooth adapter, which do you have and would you recommend it?
Anything that has the latest codec Bluetooth AptX - it sounds really good
I have a 2002 for my first car, they are so nice and under rated!
Totally agree.
i have an 03 model. its the third regal I have owned. planning to buy another one next
What does the GS button do to the turbo? And did you tune the car after installing the intake?
The difference between the American GS and Europe VXR/OPC is huge including the cost.
I'm not aware of the cost difference, but I default to your expertise.
Please an update, have it been reliable? Any problem with it ?
Really want one of these. Seems roomier than my mom's 2013 Verano, and I would hope so.
Definitely give it a try
I really love my 2011 Regal CXL except for the fact the brakes went out (just sitting in the drive way) and then the engine terminated (just sitting in the drive way). At least these things die just sitting in the drive way.Saves calling AAA.
At first sight i thought it was the Lexus is200. Beautiful car the Buick as well
Thanks AF. Yeah it does share a lot of characteristics with other makes and models.
I'm have one just like this! Sad to say, the cold air intake makes it sound better, but the computer adjuts things to the airflow and it ends up nutralizes any power gains...
Nice. Glad to hear you've got one too. Do you have a tune in yours?
yes i just buy one and i'm loving it
Honestly want one of these Buuuut my concern is the timing chain problem on these cars from what I gather seems to be the reason these cars are so cheap
It’s a beautiful car though no doubt
I like it.
Thanks Jay!
You should do a night time driving video with it in the different modes. Only so we can see the red gauge cluster
I should've. It was a cool feature
Nice, concise video- thanks!
This is like the modern Grand National
Out of Opel base.
It really, truly is
Did you do anything to the exhaust? A resonator delete perhaps?
Nope, it's stock
Great find, never heard of this one. Do you know if there are any differences between 2011 and the 2012 model? Thanks
I'm not sure of any major ones. They had a slight re-fresh in 2014 and it actually has less hp
What is a Dutch sandwich?
That is a very good deal , DS . The car looks so Japanese ( which is a very good thing ) that it surprises you when you see the badges . Good for you , congratulations .
👍
Do you have a link for the cold air intake?
That's a great deal!
Thanks Dutzo - I thought so too
how many miles does this car usually get to
I've seen them on facebook with around 150k
@@TheDutchSandwich thx
On car gurus or kbb you can find dozens with over 200k miles always google the reliability rating the regals veranos and Buick LaCrosse all got between a 4/5 and 5/5 for the last decade that’s Toyota grade reliability cuz that ties with the Camry and corolla
All Chrysler vehicles jeep dodge fiat etc always get 2/5 or 2.5/5 basically trash cans on wheels
2016 Honda Civic refresh only 3/5 below average for the class :/
But yeah I’d say Buick’s motors should be plenty strong enough to mod a lot like the Honda Accord coupes motor
Great car!
This video is about the GS but what about the CXL (2.4 L engine non turbo) model?
I have the cxl 2.4L ecotec any questions?
12 volt is definitely cool
Right?!
Did you upgrade the radio? where is video?
I could never figure out how to do it. Back to the stock one with a BT dongle and added a 12" subwoofer
This is vauxhall insignia vxr in the uk
You bet
Enjoy your German build Regal as long as you can. Opel won't build them after 2024 anymore and we all know what happens when GM has to do something on their own.
The new Regal GS is even better imo
I ended up selling it and getting an Accord. Just wanted something automatic for driving kids around.
You Germans are all power tripping over this car. WE GET IT! BUT THIS IS NOT AN OPEL REVIEW! STFU ALREADY! LOL.
@@yishaithegift9953 I'm not german 🙈
@@TAOSEELE My bad. I read one thread where it felt like i was about to become a name on Schindler's list.
Hi Guy's thought it was Jim Halpert
How tall are you
6'2"
It's a GM car and we both know how reliable GM cars are.
Any update on that aftermarket stereo?
It never ended up working out. I traded the car in for an Accord.
Damn. Looks good.
Thank you!
I wouldn't have bought the Regal if it didn't have the manual and 20s
The 19s are comfy though
Very nice.
Thank you Wilson!
You don't want the video to go on too long. You started during the day and you end at night. LOL too funny
I filmed a portion on my lunch break and the rest after work :)
I have a question where are the racing seats there were recaro seats Where's the upgraded Tesla tablet. Your car didn't come with those options
You sound like Jim Halpert.
Great looking car but it’s a Turbo so there goes that👎🏼
When that goes you just buy another car to replace it or else💸
Slap a aftermarket exhaust on it
I ended up trading it in for an Accord.
Your review was soon professional.
Thanks!
I'm sorry you didn't enjoy it. Why are you watching a video about a car you don't like?
I'm only 35 years old.
Nevertheless I'm a supporter of the underdog. The will and the commitment to survive. Like the polar bear out on the pack ice. Buick shall live on...MAN I need to stop watching nature documentaries. Lol.
When the cost of replacing the headlight can cost as much as a thousand dollars, this is not such a great car!
Honestly I'd get the auto AWD version. Mainly because it's just a Sedan lol.
It not offering a manual precludes my desire for more traction
I have the same license #
