  • Hi there!!
    In this video I talk a little about the different Mythographic books and how they’ve changed since the first one came out. I also talk about how I deal with those pesky “hidden” objects and why, even though the hidden objects REALLY bug me, I will still keep buying these books.
    Thanks for stopping by!!

    This is a great idea! It is such a shame that a publisher wants hidden objects in a coloring book, while nobody likes them! We have to make enormous effort to hide the hidden objects, instead of having fun with coloring the amazing artwork. I really hope the publisher stops with these stupid hidden objects. In the meanwhile I will try your wonderful solution! 💕

      Couldn't agree more.........why??? I just white them out and smudge a background color over them when I can. When I can't I just ignore them.👍🏻

    EXCELLENT IDEAS!! THANK YOU! 💖 I DO LOVE theses books! And I don't mind a few "HIDDEN" objects makes for some extra fun! But only when they are actually Hidden (maybe they should take some tips from the childhood highlights magazines, where the lines actually morph into the picture)! I also like that the pens don't completely hide unless you add more layers, but sends the object to the background!
    Such a GREAT VIDEO! And I Would LOVE Color Along videos! 💖😉💖

      Thanks so much!! I am glad you liked it. Yes, I used to love those Highlights. Those objects were actually hidden! I am working on the color along right now, so hoping to get that out soon. Thanks for watching ☺️

    I kind of thought that technique would work , but I was afraid I would ruin the picture. It was great to see it done and I really liked how the Posca pen performed. I thought about trying a gel pen, but you advice is excellent. Plus your coloring is amazing, which gives me confidence to try. Thank you for this video. Please keep them coming. I just discovered your channel and I can't wait to see what else I learn!

    The thick white Pitt Pen will be great for removing the lines. Thx for all the ideas. I agree that the new books have the object too randomly placed. The first ones did think it through.

    thank you for the compliment. so kind of you! i do find the hidden images so hard, but i just color over them- with whatever i'm doing with the design that's around it. so if there is a fish? i just color the fish and if there is a hidden object i continue the lines & colors of the fish. I did hear that the next joseph catimbang won't have hidden objects !! wooo hoo!

    Another idea to try is to leave the hidden object outline intact but color over it as if it wasnt there and its nearly invisible when pic is complete. That's what I'm doing especially the hidden objects on focal points. Whiting it out is a great tip too that I might try if something bothers me a lot. I usually gold paint the objects around focal points and color over the ones in them. Just an idea to share

    • @Elmcolors

      Another great idea!! Yes, so many ways to address them, just depends on your mood. I’ve seen it done several ways and they all turn out good in the end!! I will probably try out all of the ideas I’ve seen to figure out which I like best. ☺️

      Thank you for your comment ☺️ While I appreciate the fact that some people love the hidden objects, I am more drawn to the artwork in these books. And I believe this is a common feeling among many colorists. This is just my solution to be able to focus on the beautiful artwork instead of the hidden objects. Take care.

    I just recently discovered this series and was originally blown away by the art, and the format... heavy paper, perforated, single sided, and a nice size that is big enough to be easier to color without being so big it takes a month to complete, no two page spreads... everything I want. Then I noticed the objects.. and it just ruins it. My first thought was to black them out. There is a lot of black space in these images anyway.. but it's really not going to work if they are smack in the middle of a major focal point. Then I thought about using watercolor ground to white them out similar to what you are doing.. it should behave more like paper as a surface for color.. or a good ink such as bleed proof white...but I've yet to order some to try (shipping is a nightmare right now it costs more to ship than it does to purchase). I even considered redrawing the images on a lightpad, but only one partial attempt proved that is a MAJOR undertaking. I really think the best bet for me is to white them out then photocopy onto watercolor paper as that is my intended medium and I have a copier that works for watercolor. Thus my watching this video looking for options. I can also tell you the one I have is I believe the latest at this time, Joseph's frozen edition... and it has around 8 objects per picture and most are themed to some extent.

    I appreciate your demo of covering the hidden objects with white Posca pen. I am working on a page in Dream Garden and there is a big microphone coming out of the middle of a flower and a money bag on the lady’s sleeve. Those are the worst ones on the page. I will try the Posca.

    Good ideas.
    It’s funny how we all react differently to the same thing. Mythographic hidden objects don’t bother me, I was just going to redraw the lines and/or color them like the areas around them.
    On the other hand, although I like the images overall, the Kerby Rosanes weird doodles like ghosts etc. bother me. I find it hard to color one because I’m having issues with the doodles.
    🤓

    • @Elmcolors
      @Elmcolors  3 роки тому

      It is definitely a personal preference. I don’t know why these bug me and the Kerby ones don’t as much. Now, I will say that I haven’t finished many of his pages because I get tired of coloring all those little things. Lots started, not very many finished. His newer books are awesome, though!! Thanks so much for watching ❤️

  • @ColorfullyOptimistic

    This is a wonderful video that could apply to Kerby's books too. I always find myself stuck on hidden objects and incorporating them into my picture. I only own one Mythographic book for this reason, but I might buy more now that I can just wipe them out or do something different. I might try using glitter gel pen on them and just let them pop out. Still, I wish they didn't have those things, because there are so many gorgeous pictures and they are just bleh with those objects. PS - you might not like that background, but I love the pink sparkle lol.

    • @Elmcolors
      @Elmcolors  3 роки тому

      Yes, it would totally work in the Kerby books too! If you don’t want to mess with the hidden objects as much, I’d definitely recommend Aquatic or Odyssey. But yeah, I think it would looks pretty cool with glitter gel pen too. ☺️

    I have a few of these books, I am not sure if the artist puts the hidden pictures in or it is someone else but they are definitely different people. I have no problem with Joseph Catimbang's books but I don't like some of Fabiana Attanasio's ones. I feel they wrecked the pictures in paradise. After that I decided I would only buy after looking at them. I did buy Frozen Fantasies. There still are a lot of random things but they don't seem wreck the picture.(and I really like the artwork).Maybe the publisher will see this video and improve them some.

      That would be great if they change things going forward! I really did like the direction they were going with Joseph Catimbang’s editions. But, yeah, they did mess up Fabianna’s. I have Dream Garden and love the art work - but……… cannot understand the reasoning of putting these annoying hidden images spoiling the picture! I wanted to buy the other books, but not sure because of these images. I choose not colour the hidden objects to try and make them not stand out.

  • @HPCthulhu2011

    I would not do that because you can attempt to categorize the objects and assign a color code to them and that way it will make more sense; that the objects perhaps are misplaced. There are misplaced odyssey objects found in pictures in the aquatic book, etc. What you said it true though, the objects should be chosen not randomly but more logical. Hey I wonder if they are tying to make this like real life, the ocean is filled with all kinds of garbage.

    • @Elmcolors
      @Elmcolors  3 роки тому

      @@Elmcolors There is no way that I would color that junk gold, however having tried my first Mythographic page today the objects didn't bother me.
