One of the most underrated little bikes ever. No firecracker but always fired up. They got you to work and home year in year out. Fabulous memories. Thank you Honda ❤
This is the kind of reviews UA-cam is starving for, Quick, Thorough, Full of information, A perfect sound track and a lots of fun and entertaining to watch ❤❤.
The Honda CG 125 is still the best selling motercyle in my home country of Pakistan. It's considered as a manly bold macho bike. It's still manufactured there but it's not Japanese, it's Chinese. The engine and spare parts are imported form china and are assembled in Pakistan. The company Zongshen and Lifan supply honda with the parts. And are as god in quality as the Japanese. There is even a CG125 special edition model with Self start / kick Larger batter with larger chrome battery and tool cover. Larger rear drum brakes Fatter rear tyre Smaller wire spoked rear wheels which adds stiffness to the wheel. And its a very beautiful motercyle with black tank and chrome battery covers with the Honda emblem and 2 strips of parallel lines which starts form the tank and travels till the battery cover. It's a very elegant look. Because it's an OHV there are vibrations and complain back pain cuz of the vibrations when riding for a long periods of time.
I didn't know it actually Chinese made, but with Honda quality assured of course. Those small cc bikes are popular in poor thirdworld countries like the one I live in. I don't usually see Cgl's here that much. But other Chinese copies of it like the one I have are extremely popular. I have a 150 copy of those. Pretty reliable though.
I'm not aware that OHV causes the vibration. There's a very similar bike here in the Philippines named Honda TMX 125 Alpha euro 3. It also have the 125cc OHV engine and 5 speed transmission. It's main rival, the Kawasaki Barako 175, is a very well known, heavy duty motorcycle used for tricycle.
in the Philippines, that bike is mainly used for Commercial Sidecar use which is used for transportation of 5-7 person, rice bags 400kg, or even logs it's really really reliable even if you abuse it ..it will always start and go but it has a 155cc OHV engine 4 speed tranny and a larger rear sprocket for more torque it's renamed Honda TMX 155 in the 80's but back in the 70's it's a Honda CG 125
Just bought one two days ago just after watching your video. She’s a 1987 Brazil made black beauty that needs a bit of love and some small electrical fixes. Still on factory tires and not ridden since 1997. Looks really cute beside her bigger sister NC750X in my garage.
Mind that cowpat John! If only all we had to worry about was a cowpat in the road! What a great video, I grew up in the 70's, never had a CG myself but a few mates did, I had a couple of XL100s. Life was so much simpler then and so were the bikes, I'd love to have one now and do a long backroads tour on it...
These workhorse bikes are still sold here in the Philippines as the TMX125 Alpha. Same pushrod engine. Brand new in 2024 they sell for about $1100 USD. They are heavily marketed to tricycle drivers who work them for long hours hauling heavy sidecars loaded down with passengers... Great bikes. There's a trend here where they are cheaply customized into fat tire bobber style bikes.
Mr Hadden, your passion and honest enthusiasm caught the attention of a user of Imgur - a global social networking platform. Great to be here, and thanks to the Imgurian who took time to notice... :)
Thanks for sharing this. Many cheap bikes in my country are based on this Honda model but have little reviews. Your video did a great job discussing the benefits.
Thanks for your comments, Julian. It may be a relatively cheap bike but it's certainly very practical and you can do any sort of journey with it - very underrated!
This is 2024 am still riding a CG125 Honda....original engine ...four gears.... whenever I start a journey I have hope and I believe that I have made it already not just making it but in time ...lots of love to Honda❤
I have watched this video so many times... highly educational, informative and entertaining. thank you for making it and uploading it. very professional
Hi Imran, Glad you like it! We usually make films about older bikes (from the 1940s and 1950s) but the Honda is a nice bike owned by a friend and he thinks it's great!
@@sgch101 Great review Sir Honda cg125 is still in production and the highest selling motorcycle in Pakistan. I have CG 125 and his little sister Honda cd 70 both are fabulous and reliable motorcycles. Check out : www.atlashonda.com.pk/cg-125-black/
I have a pretty funny CG memory. About 10 years ago when I was about 18yo I was travelling home on my CG 125 from my job at a pub around 2AM on North Yorkshire single lane roads in cold winter. About half way home my poorly maintained CG broke down about 4 miles from my house, I was stuck in the middle of nowhere on a cold winter pitch black night, a decent distance from anywhere, I thought I had a good chance to be lost in the dark and cold and end up dead! The electric starter did nothing but the kickstart got it going for a few seconds until it dwindled out again, so I think it was the battery or alternator causing there to be no spark in the plugs. I managed to get some movement by constantly kicking the kickstart and generating a small charge to get me going for a few seconds at a time. I opened most of my protective winter clothes due to the heat generating work, so I was a knackered kid wearing a posh dining type suit, constantly kick starting a CG home with a dull intermitting front light in the middle of the night, in the middle of nowhere, and in the icey cold. Its the bad times which you remember most fondly and my faithful CG got me home.
My first bike and I'd have another if I were to get on two wheels again. It may be 'porridge' but that's it's charm - I see it as an 'anti-fashion' motorcycle. The one I acquired as a learner in 85 was unrestricted so there were a few occasions when sleek low profile boy racers would take off from traffic lights expecting to leave me in the dust, only to have me overtake them on my 'sit up and beg' CG on the straight. I seem to remember it could approach 70mph which was faster than I dared or needed on L plates back in the day. Manufacturer specs also claimed it was capable of 103 mpg and it certainly did seem to run on air. Decades on, it's good to see it still getting some love.
nice review i have owned my 1985 cg for six weeks. it has been a easy and safe bike to learn on and handles superbly. it is comfortable to cruise at about 50mph and has some character. they are fantastic little bikes!!!!
+Bryans Account Hope you have lots of fun with it. They are great to learn on and develop your skills. They may have a smaller engine than many bikes but they are very practical and can do almost everything a big bike can do too. Enjoy your riding!
The best review i have seen of a CG-125. I also own one. The year of my CG is 2013. Here in Pakistan these are still offered brand new with minor changes. You can Google up Atlas Honda Limited and see the CG we are still getting brand new. It's one tough machine. So tough even assh*les in Taliban use it in rough environments. Video liked!
A great little bike, I drove one as a motorcycle courier for 3 years and it never once broke down. 140 miles a day and I think I changed the oil once a month.
Sensible review. My first bike was a Honda CD175 and most of your comments would apply equally to it. As I remember, I only ever had 2 problems with it; firstly the previous owner made a mess of replacing a gasket which only needed to be cleaned to stop an oil leak and secondly, the exhausts fell to pieces.
Great vid! I have a 1991 cg I still use often down back country roads/lanes including a rougher 15m rural route to work. Fantastic robust plodder & fantastic on fuel. A real joy.
Translation from Korean: Thanks to UA-cam, and thanks again for the little bike that made us know the joy of running slowly, confirming that a person riding a bike of the same model existed long ago on the other side of the globe. 당신의 친절한 의견에 감사드립니다 Thank you for your kind comments
Nice review. Had one (a chinese clone actually) 2007 to 2015 and it was just the easiest bike to ride and maintain - and actually a lot of fun due to its light weight and upright sitting position. But since I rode it all year it rusted pretty severely - mainly due to the salty roads here in Denmark during the wintertime. And some electric components and wiring did fail - including the electric starter. But the engine itself seemed pretty bulletproof (changed the oil every 1,500 km or 1,000 miles) - it was never opened except for valve adjustments. The only bad thing was that the drum brakes performed rather inadequate - you had to maintain a certain distance to vehicles in front of you on the roads.
Really nice video, well filmed and edited and very informative. I've got my eye on a certain CG125 from the 80's as a little project bike. I wish there were more channels like this on UA-cam, none of this sensationalist rubbish. I hope to see more in the future!
Sorry for being so slow to reply! Many thanks for your kind comments. I'm sure you'll have plenty of fun with a CG125. We reckon that the amount of fun you can have with a small bike is often completely overlooked! We're definitely not into the sensational approach - can't see the point :-). The next film will feature a 1930s Sunbeam and will probably be available by the end of June 2017. We'll also do a modern sports bike over the summer, together with one or two other small or old bikes.
It's not because it was made for 3rd world countries, only! They like that bike because of the cheap revision, reliability, as you mentioned, and it is good. I also piloted an modern cv, wich is 160cc nowadays. In 2016, Honda is producing this bikes with more force. 125cc bikes are still avaible, but fuel Injected only, wich is awesome. My country is not too poor to bee a 3rd world country, but there is a lot of riders that have the most recent version of this bike. Because it works, it's cheap, and do what you need to. Want to run? Buy an sport bike. These bikes are not intended to run, anyway. But today, compared to the 1985 ones, they actually runs pretty fast, specially the 160cc cg's.
You can still buy brand new in Pakistan. There is basic 4 gear CG version, and Special edition with 5 Gears and self starter. The performance in the price range is unmatched still.
this was such a great video man im just in the process of trying to sell my 1980 xr 200 trail bike so i can get a road legal bike and i got offered one of these for a good price and im hoping to grab it so i wanted to do some research and your video poped up and man i loved it ive watched it four times and its got me buzzing to get this bike man!!
I had a CG125 that I'd purchased in 1977 new with £319 cash. Later fitted crash bars, rear carrier & top-box. It was a great little bike & way better than my previous Yamaha YB100. It got me from Dovercourt, through, Holland, Belgium, to Marseille in the south of France & return, without any hiccups at all. Two-up with a tent lashed upon the front mudguard, tank bag, BIG panniers & top-box obviously full; averaged 103 mpg as well. Used it most days for work & finally sold it around 1985-87-ish. Very sad to let it go. Somehow you get very attached to an old faithful. One thing I would disagree with though; the headlight really needed to brighter. I vaguely seem to remember it being 30 or 35 watts, using the old type incandescent bulbs. It really needed 45 - 50 watts imho. I suppose now it's simple to buy a modern replacement LED only drawing 20-watts of power, but maybe twice as bright.
What a great video! In the first shot I slowly scanned left to right reading the signs first, then observed the bridge situation. then finally noticed the rider ignoring all signage and instead going through pegs deep in water! I laughed pretty hard
Very true that the Cg125 was built for low maintenance costs and reliability. Offers the performance of a 1.2 car with excellent fuel consumption mileage when driven gently. A simple 4 stroke meant that it had light breaking qualities ie its only weak point was its breaking distance especially in an emergency!
Haha aw man called out :L I started out on a 125 for 3 years and am on a 1999 CB500s now. Loving it but I do miss the old 125 for simplicity, reliability and cost. Considering a cheap wee 125 for city use and the CG looks like the type of thing to suit me.
I owe a 2006 CG125, its my first bike. I am 16 and saved up for it in the last 10 years. Bought it for 1200$. Didnt regret it as in the past 5000 kilometres I didnt have to do anything else than change the oil, clean the drive chain and else.
Fun fact: In the philippines, we call it Honda TMX (tricycle model extreme) 125 The manual stated "Do not attach a side car it will ruin the handling" while Honda Philippines was like "yea fam this is the perfect bike to attach a side car to" 😭😂
It is very famous in Pakistan even many good bikes of other brands like Suzuki Hayabusa,Yamaha ybr, Rx1 etc are not so much used by general public. In Pakistan people love honda cg 125 because its easy maintenence free and spare parts are so common cheap u can buy its head light in 3 US dollars.Since 70s this bike is avilable and manufacutured in local Pak auto industries due to public demand.its rough bike despite having not kill switch, dipper, gear indicator, self start comfort level etc
Thanks for the information. It's very interesting to know that the model is popular because it is reliable but also easy and cheap to maintain. That also made it popular in the UK.
Simon Hadden yes its cheap.People just do alteration to carburator to maximize fuel efficiency.some change bike riding postures etc. Latest modern bikes are not much prefered due to expensive parts.yamaha yb100 old bikes still.people love thats why still manufacutring despite old technology
Hondas are generally good, as everyone knows, but my first bike was a C90; automatic with two gears. It was good training for falling off but had one bad habit: when it rained the engine would stop.
I got a c90 and a cg125 the c90 has 3 gears tho. And it rides in rain and flooded roads better than any bike i ever rode. Yours could be faulty for stopping in the rain.
Yeah!!! Im suscribed right know, that video helped me infact because im aiming to buy a restored old bike from the 90s café stile. Thanks and good luck with your chanel!!!

OMG! Many thanks for your kind comments.
Nice bike and wonderful clip!
Oh man, Gotta love the sound track
Great Grandpapa told me about the first time one of these contraptions entered his village. It was driven by an enigmatic gentleman in a top hat.
Awesome stuff! Keep doing what you're doing big man.
+Sarah Chetner Thanks for the encouragement - it really spurs us on! 😀
this was such a great video man im just in the process of trying to sell my 1980 xr 200 trail bike so i can get a road legal bike and i got offered one of these for a good price and im hoping to grab it so i wanted to do some research and your video poped up and man i loved it ive watched it four times and its got me buzzing to get this bike man!!
Hope it all goes well. It will be a good bike to have. Glad to hear the film has been helpful!
This video brought a smile to my face.
Great to hear that. It's lovely to know it's making someone cheerful.
Simon Hadden Your passion and joy are contagious.
quite a classic review on a classic motorcycle.
Many thanks for your kind comments!
Brilliant that brought a smile to my face thank you
So pleased it made you smile - that's what it's all about!
Very true that the Cg125 was built for low maintenance costs and reliability. Offers the performance of a 1.2 car with excellent fuel consumption mileage when driven gently.
A simple 4 stroke meant that it had light breaking qualities ie its only weak point was its breaking distance especially in an emergency!
greetings from imgur man, someone realy likes your channel and shared it with us, so lets have a look ;)
私は日本人で現在中華製インジェクションのCG125Fi WH125-19Bを所有しています。とても良いバイクです。もしてすべての日本製CG125の所有者に感謝します。
This is the type of guy who has an allotment that he tends on sundays, wears slippers round the house, drink 7 cups of tea a day, and reads the paper.
Not quite... He trained police motorcyclists and spent years riding quickly on big bikes! I think he'll like your comments and he does like tea :-)
Haha aw man called out :L I started out on a 125 for 3 years and am on a 1999 CB500s now. Loving it but I do miss the old 125 for simplicity, reliability and cost. Considering a cheap wee 125 for city use and the CG looks like the type of thing to suit me.
scatcat1994 lol
You're an ignorant moron - a know nothing fool.
Great video! Love this bike! 😄👍
nice little machine from honda nice sound of the engine...and nice campaign landscape , i supose it s in england.
nice day pal
Thanks for the comments! Yes it was filmed in England.
One of the best bike u can buy
such a well made video. like national geographic but more personal!
+Mel Rey Glad you liked it! We try to make the films sound friendly and understandable!
Great little bike. Thanks.
Indeed Sir.
Nicely done! I have 3 cg's... great little bikes
+leespiderpod Glad you like the film! They are great little bikes and easy to live with too. Very underrated, I think.
+leespiderpod Wow - he certainly had some adventures!
I owe a 2006 CG125, its my first bike. I am 16 and saved up for it in the last 10 years. Bought it for 1200$. Didnt regret it as in the past 5000 kilometres I didnt have to do anything else than change the oil, clean the drive chain and else.
I'd like to see this guy review a sport bike :D
Have you anything particular in mind? We've access to a few modern ones (but not many)! :-)
No particular bike in mind, but maybe the unlikeliest one to receive such a classy review :)
Great, we'll give it a go. It might take us a few months but we'll definitely do it!
Great! Looking forward to it!
Simon Hadden I’d recommend an Aprilia RS250, Tuono or a first-gen Kawa ZX10R.
A good choice and soberly delivered. Grandad C11 BSA sleeps easily.
Awesome video. Thanks for sharing.
You forgot to mention that a sturdy rack and box can be fitted. Just the place for a chap's leather satchel, tweed cap and ARP lamp.
Damn, so we did! We'll not forget such important details in the next film...
This is one top notch review!
Glad you enjoyed it! Many thanks.
i just recently passed my cbt looking at getting one of these as my first motorcycle
Do try and get one. You'll learn lots while riding it and it will take you wherever you want - they're pretty reliable!
got one a month ago honda cg125 2005 so electric start love it
Great! Do some long journeys on it if you can.
what oil would you recommend to put in it
Fun fact: In the philippines, we call it Honda TMX (tricycle model extreme) 125
The manual stated "Do not attach a side car it will ruin the handling"
while Honda Philippines was like "yea fam this is the perfect bike to attach a side car to" 😭😂
They need to bring this to the usa!
Hi Simon, I love this video... :)
Greetings from Jakarta, Indonesia.
So pleased you liked it! Many thanks.
MIND THAT COW PAT JOHN!
What a lovely presentation. I love these honda cg125. I have got one too. Plz have a look at my videos related to honda cg125.
I learnt to ride on one of those (mine was the older version tho)
Great bike
i have to disagree about the lights tho. Mine at least were crap😅
lol we still have lot of them here in philippines its cold honda tmx 155 it still uses a push rod technology
LOL, that speedo but thanks for sharing an all time classic.
I particularly like the way at 03:00 the bike slows down but the speedo goes quicker, 65 mph has never been so easy! 🤪
@@spency787 It was an illusion, actually the bike was doing well over a ton.
Very Nice Bike 👍
Awesome review!
linda grover Many thanks for your kind comments. So glad you liked the film.
Mine is fully black with painted black engine aswell..is it normal for honda to paint a cg engine black?
Great video!
Many thanks!
Have you reviewed the Honda cg125 cafe racer if you haven’t can you try please if theirs one easy to find
Awesome review.Thanks.
Pleased you like it! Have you seen any of our other films about older bikes?
Yeah!!! Im suscribed right know, that video helped me infact because im aiming to buy a restored old bike from the 90s café stile. Thanks and good luck with your chanel!!!
