- John Pinette is a comedian who jokes about how big he is... when he goes into a Chinese buffet though, the joke is on the owner. He talks about how the owner gets mad when he goes in and orders a lot of food because they are worried that he will eat all of their food and then they won't make any money. It's comical and true since John is well known for his big appetite.
John Pinette is also known for his role in the sitcom Seinfeld as a carjacking victim. He was also featured on The Tonight Show, The View, and many other television shows.
In 2004, Pinette joined the touring cast of the musical Hairspray in the role of Edna Turnblad. In 2006 he recorded a Comedy Central special titled John Pinette: Still Hungry. This was his last performance before he passed away in 2014.
John Pinette was a beloved comedian and an inspiration to many people on how to embrace and find humor in even the toughest of times. His legacy lives on today through his stand-up comedy specials, sitcom appearances, and his memorable roles in movies. His humor and talent will never be forgotten.

Pinette was named Stand-Up Comedian of the Year by the American Comedy Awards in 1999 and received a Gemini Award nomination for his televised performance at Montreal's Just for Laughs Comedy Festival in 2000. At the time of his death, he still held the record for the highest-selling one-person show in the history of Just for Laughs.

I think its because he isnt mocking the accent, he used it to compliment the story. A lot of people who do accents do them to mock the accent and do it badly.

Was watching a "large" family that had already filled up and sat there the entire time while we ate...just before we left, they all got up to head back up to the buffet when they changed from lunch to dinner. My best friend growing up was from a wicked traditional Chinese household, and that accent just gave me nostalgia. I should call him :)

Me and my 3 buddies went to a Chinese buffet one time. We're a group that very much looks like it can eat so when the owner saw us, her eyes got big and she rushed to the back. She started yelling a bunch and a couple minutes later while we're being seated, they start bringing out boatloads of more food.
I just recently discovered this legend. His comedy is something we definitely need now. Thanks for looking out for us John Pinette. RIP

This was my grandmothers favorite comedian. I was sad when he passed we bonded over him. She also passed in 2021. She was the matriarch. And now that I’m watching him again I can see why she liked him. They spoke similarly. She wasn’t heavy but even her face had the same mannerisms when she would tell stories of her crazy day and can you believe that happened. Rip John and rip Betty. You were both funny people that will be very very very missed

This short feels like a good lesson on the importance of comedic timing. I’ve seen the full skit before and nearly died laughing along with the audience. With all the cuts/without the pauses in between, it feels like a rush, a highlight reel.

John was going to be on tour in Ontario, Canada the year he died. I heard he was going to be in a city near where i lived and planned on buying tickets to see him. 2 days later, it was announced that he had passed. I was devastated by the news. A comedy legend.

I can attest to the story as well. It happened to me and a friend at a Chinese buffet in Austin, TX. Owner was pissed and confused, my friend (who was half my size) stayed there for over two and half hours and she ate just as much as I did.
