Hi there Mark&B, I saw your vid. I've been truck camping since the mid 80's. Here's what I've learned & I'll pass them on to you.
Some of this you may already have, do, or know about.
    1) Get stuff you need at a camping store for backpacking. It's small, compact, & light weight.
2)Get splash guards for your truck. It'll help keep you & your rig clean. They work. I know.
    3) When parking for the night, park headlong into the wind. That way if a storm comes you won't have to worry about a side wind ripping off your camper shell. Plus, if anything comes bouncing towards the truck, since you have a slimmer profile, it might miss you. If it does hit, the front of the truck is reinforced. Also when cooking you're in the lee & the wind will blow the smoke & odors out of your rig.
    4) Use bug spray on the interior doors & windows/ screens openings to help keep bugs out. Use wasp & hornet spray around & on your tires to help keep critters out. Basically, all points of contact on the ground.
    5) An inch is a lot of room. Learn how to stack & get used to sand & dirt. Use floor mats to put your shoes on too
6)Air out your sleeping area every morning or often. In an enclosed space the air gets stale.
7)Use a small fan to circulate the air in your sleeping area. This will help prevent hot & cold spots from forming & help prevent condensation & mold & mildew from forming.
8)Use a solid hooded sweatshirt. Draw the hood tight when you sleep to help encapsulate body heat. It can double as a pillow/ dirty clothes holder/ gear carrier etc.
I hope this helps. Great vid, thanks for sharing. Happy trails, Drive safe. 🤠🤠

Thanks for all the great suggestion! We are learning quick some of the tricks of the trade! We are slowly collecting small camping essentials as they also fit nicely in our day packs while hiking. We just came back from our first warm weather camping trip (appx 12c overnight) and were still quite comfortable!

You have a sweet rig...for dishwasher fluid you could just put cheap Vodka in a spray bottle and use paper towels for wipe up...then just burn in fire pit...have fun

Thanks! I plan on doing some upgrades in the coming weeks for ski season! Not sure the vodka would work, it would all just end up in my mouth 🍹

Thanks! it was crucial to have enough room for both us! the bed is 50" wide, so just a little smaller than a double

Pull out shelf and stove slide looks good. Like the use of the hitch as storage and a step. Thanks

Thanks! The hitch mount was kinda an after thought but worked really good!

Nice. I built a nearly identical camper setup in my truck a couple years back. We use it for skiing in the winter as well and know the hassle of getting up in the middle of the night. I built a couple cubbies in the passenger side shelf where we leave our shoes so we don’t need to flip the bed to get out. I’m in the process of re-designing the cabinet unit for some “garage space” when I found your video. Cool work

It’s a setup that works great! We had since started putting our crocks on the side table and just slipping them on and it worked much better… and now I’m the warmer weather it’s not so bad.. but still a pain.. I guess not much different than getting out of a tent

For the diesel heater, how’d you exhaust it out the bottom? Did you drill a hole?

    • @markb6277
      @markb6277  2 роки тому +1

I drilled a 4" hole in the side of the bed, then there is about 4" of an opening before the outer panel
