  • This video shows a new (for mid 2021) car seat that let me do the impossible in my Mustang GT. Transport a baby when they grow out of the infant car seat, and into a toddler seat. Wanted to help out other car people, so decided to make a video with the good and the (very little) bad I found. I genuinely think it is a genius piece of equipment, and wasn't paid to do any of this. If you have a Mustang, Camaro, Challenger, or any other coupe from BMW/Mercedes/Audi, BRZ/86, Civic, ... this just might be the best way to travel somewhere with a baby.
    The car seat is the Evenflo Gold Revolve 360. www.evenflo.com/gold/35312310...

    The only other alternative in our situation is the Cybex Sirona S (as of mid 2021). But, if you decide to go with that, check out the slight bother with the tether in certain situations.

    One thing I didn't get to mention is particularly with this Mustang generation, the seat belt based installation was impossible for me. When tightening it up to the required amount, there comes a point where the latching mechanism interferes with the seat itself. This means it comes to a point where it cannot be tightened enough to secure the seat. So unfortunately, won't be able to use this when the child is over 40 lb. But for me, even with this limitation, it was worth it. My kid loves the Mustang's noise, and I couldn't be happier. 😇
    Life would've been way easier in an SUV with easy access, but where's the fun/enjoyment in that. 😅

      You are most welcome. I am glad if this helped you out with deciding on a car seat. :)
      I was looking all over for an answer for several questions, but without success decided to pull the trigger anyway. Wanted fellow parents to be more informed since this thing definitely is not cheap.

    I have a 2 door 2005 honda civic and bought the 360 so it will be easier to buckle my son in (9mths old). And you answered my curiosity of how to get him in. I was concerned about the passengers leg room but luckily my baby is old enough to sit fully upright so hopefully it gives the front passengers enough room.

      Glad to hear this was useful. :)
      It makes a world of difference just being able to load in the most natural position for us, and then to have the baby in the safest position.

      @@NativeAmerikila307 Just seeing this comment since it was under another one. I'm assuming you are asking for when he is turned to face forward. Just doing a quick google search and I see that the MB E350 has 2 more inches of rear legroom compared to a Mustang GT. He should be just fine. :)
      When he is about over 5 or so it might be tight though.

    In this video while you have it rear facing. What incline setting was it on? Wanting to get it for our 2011 gt for my 7 month old and wondering how it will fit. I believe the 11 backseat is smaller

    • @ViperMustangDad
      @ViperMustangDad  2 роки тому

      So, at the 0:40 mark, the seat is in the lowest reclining position. So, this is the worst possible case when a passenger needs to be in the front seat.
      The lowest position is the only reclining level that will allow you to do a full 360. If it is in the more upright position, the seat will only revolve 90 degrees. Hence with my older baby, every time I will need to adjust inclination, rotate, and then get the baby out.

  • @sutcliffe1

    Is this seat bigger than most other options? For some reason it looks pretty big to me. I'm looking for a good seat to fit my BMW E92 335is and came across this vid.

    • @ViperMustangDad
      @ViperMustangDad  Рік тому

      Sorry for the delay. It definitely is bigger, the base in particular. This is one you never hope to be switching between cars. The base is so big because of the circular track for the turning mechanism. It doesn't also fit in airplanes for the exact same reason (somebody would be crazy to think of even trying even if it were legal). But it's no wider than an actual reasonably-sized person in the seat, so should have no problem actually setting up. But rotating around 360 is a completely different story, and might have a lot to do with your car. As I mentioned in my video, the 360 rotation only works in one direction with my car.

  • @IIIllllIIIIlllll
    @IIIllllIIIIlllll Рік тому +2

    Nice vid. I have an E92 335is coupe and been using a detachable rear-facing seat, but my daughter is almost 9mo and close to outgrowing that.
    Just got this revolve 360 at Target for $137 (got very lucky considering it retails $400.. pricing mistake when it didn't ring up properly). Haven't opened it yet as I'm still a little worried whether it'll fit and have enough room to rotate. Do you think it will? I think my E92 has a little more legroom than 6th gen mustang but dont know how they compare on 'hip room' etc.
    Also how old is your kid now? have you had any issues when turning it to face rear, with your kid's legs hitting the side/seat while rotating?

    • @ViperMustangDad
      @ViperMustangDad  Рік тому

      I apologize for the delay. I'm not sure if it is too late. I don't get to check the channel too often. First of all, amazing you scored this for $137. That is truly an insane price for the only unit satisfying this niche market application.
      I hope you did open and try it out, because unfortunately that's the only way to find out. I have had no issues from Target taking it back within 3 months if there's anything wrong, or if it doesn't fit the particular need we had. I couldn't find hip room information on the E92 3 series coupe, so will be hard to judge. The Mustang is reportedly 47.4". The Mustang and the BMW seems to be very similar in dimensions inside.
      With the kid having longer limbs after a year, it's imperative to ask to pull the legs back. Otherwise, they will definitely hit all over (the base, a locking metal piece, "armrest" etc). Still have not found any better solution. My child is over 2 now (and OK to be front-fracing), but still hasn't complained too hard so I keep things as is. So, though it is a pain, I go through the ritual of turning back and forward everyday, since safety is more important than anything else.

    Do you think with the new slim model a full 360 can be achieved? I have a genesis coupe and am trying to find the best seat. Im also worried once forward facing the seat seems a bit tall on the base.

    • @ViperMustangDad
      @ViperMustangDad  8 місяців тому

      Personally haven't seen the slim version, but from what I see at this site (carseatblog.com/56665/evenflo-revolve360-comparison-original-gold-extend-slim/) I would say it should be possible. At least in the Mustang, the part that was hitting was the headrest surround area. Given the way the Slim model is set up, this should now not be an issue. The full 360 was never a big issue for me (could be different for others), since you get into the habit of always rotating one way.
      However, I don't know if the full seat being tall will be resolved going with the Slim model. These seat bases are quite tall, and that actually makes the whole seat be quite tall.

    Can I put twins back there in these two car seats the same

    • @ViperMustangDad
      @ViperMustangDad  2 роки тому +1

      If you are thinking of a car with similar characteristics/features, I believe you should be able to do that just fine. When the seats are swung back to the proper position, they take up the same width as a regular passenger. However, if you do like to have your driver's seat a bit back, it might interfere, since there's not a whole lot of room to lean/move back (in the rear facing position for kid).
      Since our little one is old enough, I actually tilt the car seat for the child to sit more straight, and this gives just the right amount room for an adult to be in the front passenger seat comfortably.

  • @leocitro9943
    @leocitro9943 2 роки тому +1

    Could an adult fit in the front seat in the passenger side?

    • @ViperMustangDad
      @ViperMustangDad  2 роки тому +1

      Yep, definitely. Especially if the baby is old enough to go in the most upright position there's a decent amount of room for the front passenger. I would say for somebody around 5'8" or shorter, it should be OK. Any taller, and they'll find it quite cramped.
      If the baby is really young, and needs to be in the most reclined posiiton, then that will need sacrifice of about two inches. Those two inches will substantially reduce the comfort level of the front passenger unfortunately. :(

    could i put the car seat in the middle?

    • @ViperMustangDad
      @ViperMustangDad  2 роки тому +1

      Definitely not in the Mustang (and most of these coupes with small back seats). It is designed for 2 people (cramped up) maximum in the back, so has only 2 seat belts. With most other cars too, you will have to check, since the child seat anchors are not there. Anchors are not compulsory, but makes installation easy compared to seat belts.
      Since we are talking about child safety, it is best to follow the manufacturer recommendations. And typically most car seats are recommended to be installed on either side (not the middle).

    Can two fit in the back and still turn ?

    • @ViperMustangDad
      @ViperMustangDad  Рік тому

      Yep. This should work just fine. You probably won't be able to rotate both seats simultaneously. But one after another should be no problem whatsover.

  • @torstenhartwig1590
    @torstenhartwig1590 10 місяців тому

    The video looked so great, but I just installed the seat in my 2017 GT and unfortunately there is not sufficient space for a 5'7" passenger if seat is in rear facing position(regardless of recline angle). Definitely disappointed.

    • @ViperMustangDad
      @ViperMustangDad  9 місяців тому

      I'm sorry to hear that. I have had a one passenger about the same height and they managed to fit, though their body proportions might have helped with this (short legs and tall torso). Even then it definitely was a tight fit, but OK for short trips. I think Evenflo has upgraded the car seat further to make it slim. 2 years ago, this was the only option, apart from selling the car or buying another car just for hauling the kid; so it was worth it.

  • @efranks927

    Was looking for how you installed the base… all this did was advertise the car seat

    • @ViperMustangDad
      @ViperMustangDad  11 місяців тому

      This was not an advertisement. The intention wasn't to show how to install the car seat or the base. There are plenty of videos from other creators as well as the company showing how the base is installed. This is showing a solution for a problem that only a minority of parents will face. The only reason I made this video is to help out others like me, without having to purchase an expensive car seat not knowing for sure whether it'll solve their problem.
