I'll literally take you on as a client for free. Just as a thank you for all the help your channel has given me and everyone you've had on/everyone watching. My boyfriend showed me your channel and I immediately binged it, and thanks to you and other shows you've recommended, you've completely turned my boyfriend and I's financial goals and financial planning around and given us a direction, and whenever I read your comments I can see you doing the same for other people. About the importance of an emergency fund: I just wanna leave here how having one saved us yesterday. So my partner didn’t get his salary on Monday, and yesterday he was called in for an emergency meeting. In short: his workplace is bankrupt as of yesterday. He will get all the money he is owed eventually, but you know how that goes.. it can take weeks/months. In comes the emergency fund, so we can easily pay our bills and daily expenses without having to worry, and the minute the money that he’s owed comes in it goes right back into the emergency fund. Also has two possible new jobs lined up so it will all be fine.
Can’t tell you enough how good it feels to have zero stress about this situation. Just put aside that emergency fund people.

I'm not a fan of the recent therapy side of things. These guests keep coming in like they're the victims of something outside of their control but more often than not it's their lack of self control. They're just making excuses because they want to do things that feel good NOW not later. Like his this guy said he was lonely, bro you're just horny get over it. This one is special to me because Mikey is like looking back through a portal in time as far as his background goes. I've been watching Caleb since maybe the fourth or fifth month of his channel & I think you're the first KCMO person on here!
Mikey, if you see this: I'm from Kansas City, MO (born and raised - moved away at 27). I went to UMKC. I'm a Tableau Developer (but I've been doing that since 2010 & have spanned that into a career from KC, to the East Coast, to the West Coast helping companies start from square one & leading into consulting -- it's a lucrative skill set to have, sir). I also used to collect watches and coins - LOL!! On the not so light note, I've wrestled with student loans - like many - and dealt with my share of credit card and car debt.
I say all of that to say you're young, and like Caleb said - you've shown that you can tighten things up and do what you need to do (through the weight loss -- congrats on that, man). You have the time and personality traits necessary to fix this (not to mention, your job choice should make this financially feasible for you).
From a guy who's walked a startlingly similar path to you, based on some of the stuff you've shared on the show, "You've got this!". You're early on in things, but so long as you own responsibility for where you are and where you want to get to -- you can follow-through on the decisions you need to make for a better life. Rooting for you as a fellow Tableau Dev from KCMO.
Don't know if there's a way to connect professionally (LinkedIn or something), but if so - happy to, sir. Might bump into you at a conference in the future - who knows?

"MAY 18, 2023 - Nationally, public school spending per student experienced the largest fiscal year-to-year increase since 2008, up 6.3% to $14,347, according to new data from the 2021 Annual Survey of School System Finances released today by the U.S. Census Bureau. This spending is up from $13,501 in FY 2020. Public school spending per pupil in the 50 states and the District of Columbia also increased for the 10th year in a row in fiscal year 2021.
Elementary and secondary education revenue from all sources in FY 2021 totaled $810.0 billion, up 5.0% from the prior fiscal year.
The Annual Survey of School System Finances provides data about public school spending - including per student (pre-K to grade 12) expenditures - debt and assets (cash and security holdings) for all states and the District of Columbia. Statistics are not adjusted for cost-of-living differences between geographic areas.
      Other highlights:
The states that spent the most per pupil in FY 2021 were New York ($26,571); the District of Columbia ($24,535), which comprises a single urban district; Vermont ($23,586); Connecticut ($22,769); and New Jersey ($22,160). Those spending the least per pupil were Idaho ($9,053), Utah ($9,095), Arizona ($9,611), Mississippi ($10,170) and Florida ($10,401).
Seven of the nine states in the Northeast region (Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont) were ranked among the top 10 in spending per pupil in FY 2021. Pennsylvania ranked 12th and Maine was ranked 13th.
Of the 20 states with the lowest per pupil spending, 17 (Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, New Mexico, Nevada, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Utah) were in the South or West regions. The remaining three were Missouri, South Dakota and Indiana.
Of the 100 largest school systems by enrollment, the districts with the highest spending per pupil in FY 2021 were Boston City Schools in Massachusetts ($31,397), New York City School District in New York ($29,931), Washington Schools in District of Columbia ($24,535), Atlanta School District in Georgia ($18,492), Chicago School District in Illinois ($18,216), and Los Angeles Unified in California ($18,179)"
I do agree that we should not be bailing out companies and shouldn't be funding the war machine...however, IMO, government run schools receive enough money but spend it poorly - maybe they should be evaluated by Caleb....

Heyyyy nice - I am also a Tableau developer! Nice to see somebody else doing it; I've been in Business Intelligence for 20+ years and people seem to still be unaware of or unfamiliar with the field.

I am looking into going into the data field. Could you explain what you do day to day as tableau developer?

    • @davedixon2167
      @davedixon2167 Рік тому

@@user-zc6ug3qh3z Long answer incoming: Nowadays, my whole job is to conceive, build, and refine/revamp dashboards - the biggest challenges are 1. Figuring out how to manipulate Tableau's quirkiness to get it to show what the client wants - from number formatting that isn't natively dynamic by magnitude, to changing entire pages' granularity based on whether a user has selected a filtering value or not; 2. How to show all the information the client wants, without cluttering the whole page; and 3. Optimizing for performance, especially when the requirements include things like text tables with millions of rows x thousands of columns, and dozens of filters - things that Tableau was not made for, but are required regardless. The fun days of building cool vizzes are tempered by the days of trying to sanity-check your way through a complicated string of calculated fields to make sure all the edge cases are covered. Slight warning: Tableau training uses their own 'Superstore' datasource, which is FAR simpler and more straightforward than any client data you're likely to find =0)
I've got a guy on my team that handles all the database management and ETL side, so that's nice, but as I came up through my career in BI, I've done almost all of it end-to-end: the datamining part, the report-building part, the ETL part, the various BI tools as frontends (BusinessObjects, Cognos, Tableau, little bit of PowerBI) - I have a background in graphic design, so dashboarding became sort of my laser-focus when my last contract started with "help! can you make these [hand-cobbled PowerPoint] dashboards more user-friendly and automatable?"

I feel like my situation is very similar to Mike. I have ~$146.5k in student loans left to pay. I make $76k/year salary at my main job. I save 12% in a Roth. I pay $400 over minimum every month on my student loans. I save $150/week for a new car. I never eat out. I work 7 hours a week on the side as a tutor. When I see people like Mike and others who are in similar situations (if not better off) to myself, I wonder what lessons they must have missed in life to have such a different outcome. Then, I am thankful they are on Financial Audit with Caleb. Thank you, Caleb. You are helping a lot of people.

I want to say this dude seems a lot more realistic in energy and admitting he has problems. Many people who come on Caleb's audit here almost act like it's not a big deal. This dude feels his pain, his loneliness, his addictions, and expresses them enough I see his chaotic nature yet he asks for help at least right here financially. Yeah there was a bit of excuses and downplaying, but we all have problems being fully accountable. He seems to care about his situation more than others I've seen here.

If you’re paid biweekly you really have to budget according to your standard 2-paycheck months. Then treat those beautiful 3-paycheck months as a bonus and chuck that third paycheck at whatever savings/debt/big purchase you need.

I have MDD too, and I'm in a similar financial situation. I totally get it dude! The small dopamine hits you get from spending make life a bit easier on that day. Make sure when you start doing your budget you tell your therapist so you can get some new copping skills for when you need that extra boost, you'd normally spend away!
