  • Episode 4 from the Lewis and Harris series sees me explore the famous Callanish Standing Stones and shoot some handheld images as I go. These stones are 5000 years old and are a great place to visit!

I think the age of standing stone circles give them that peaceful atmosphere, the thoughts of people in a bygone age creating them with just a few simple implements. Another interesting video despite the chilly weather so thanks for your work in filming it.

Very cool! I also felt like a "lie in" but got out of bed to watch your video cast on a big tv, with breakfast. Well worth getting up for! Hope you feel better!

Hope you are feeling better. It is awful to be ill on a holiday. What blows me away is that you can still walk up and touch most of these ruins. Not so here is the US. The powers that be like to fence things off here and keep visitors at a distance (and we have nothing as old as that!). Thanks again for a fascinating little video. Looking forward to next week.

Such a shame that everything is hidden and fenced away in the US. It's so nice to be able to see and touch these old historical monuments. Thanks again Gisele

U.S. is so messed that you can't tell any people of this younger generation about about the importance and significance of any historical site without them spray painting on them or destroying them.

Great video Kim. Those stones are really fascinating & those images you took, really creates the mood - very atmospheric! And how bizarre how fast the light was sweeping across the land, quite a spectacle to see for sure. The lesser visited parts of the stones are still very interesting to see, what an amazing landscape!

Callanish is on the "to do" list for sure. These standing monoliths emanate mystery and intrigue in their very essence. They conjure up so many questions. Loved the images as well. Was going to say the old tumble down croft in the distance looked worth an explore but looks like you are visiting another one in the next episode.

That is a place I would really love to get to some day. They say that the stones are lined up with Clisham Mountain on Harris. My last name being Clisham is what holds my interest in the site.

Excellent. Had a lie in. Turned on pc to accompany tea and toast. Watched video about someone who had a lie in. I feel quite virtuous now - but I have to say, the rest of my morning is going to be warmer than yours! Unfortunately, it won't be as uplifting...

Thanks for the video. Pretty inspiring
I would like to know if you please.. how do the light move that fast at this site? Was it before the sunset.. or was it due to a moving cloud up there reflecting a shadow?

Nice video. One thought that occurred to me: are any of the standing stones situated so you could get a good nighttime composition with the Milky Way behind them? I think that might be quite impressive, especially if you used "light painting" on the stones themselves.

Yes, I've seen many photographs that others have done just as you suggest. It's a wonderful place for astrophotography. It's very rare to get a clear sky over there though but it does happen...occasionally :)

This is a nice spot for infrared and ultraviolet photography, as well. But in any case it is better to wait for moments when busloads of tourists are not there before starting to shoot. And avoid shooting toward the clutter on the north side of the site.

The stones are nice to visit and amazing how old they are. Also visited the other sites but the thing that struck me when visiting the island is the number of old empty farm houses. Ghosts of an era long gone by. Looking forward to heading back up maybe later this month or further into winter.

Hey Kim, You don't need to apologise for the sound quality because the wind noise actually makes the viewer feel like they're there. It would be weird seeing your hair going crazy if we couldn't hear the wind. Great video.

Nice video, i liked it....but I'm pretty much sure that it is not the light which was moving, rather it's the clouds which were moving faster and u were in the cloud's shadow while you were vlogging.

These stones are conglomerates of *Mudfossils* , once living, breathing, moving creatures. The soft tissues are preserved in brine, the teeth and bones are dissolved. (See "Mudfossil University" for the chemistry.)
They can be better observed if the internal filters are removed from a camera. !!!
