This song and “Ride” were on the radio virtually nonstop. So you probably heard it in the background while shopping or at a restaurant. It was EVERYWHERE! They even won a Grammy for it. The name Twenty One Pilots was taken from a play by Arthur Miller called All My Sons. It's about a man who commits suicide after causing the death of twenty one pilots during World War II because he knowingly sent them faulty parts for the good of his business.
“In All My Sons, Joe Keller's factory produces faulty airplane parts whose defects result in the deaths of twenty one pilots in World War II. Keller has the chance to intervene and stop the parts from shipping to the military, but chooses to do nothing until it's too late.” Tyler (the lead singer) was inspired by the moral crossroad moment: "I feel like we are all constantly encountering moral crossroads where the decisions that benefit the 'now' will have consequences down the road; but the decision that might seem tough and tolling right away will ultimately be more rewarding.” “What is our purpose for playing music? We are constantly asking ourselves that question. The answer can change all the time. Right now I am just going to stick with something as simple as ‘we want to make people think.”
I'm 50ish and I took my daughter and one of her friends to their concert. To this day, still one of the best concerts I have ever been to and I've been to a lot of concerts.
We have been to four as a family. I am forever grateful to my daughters for begging to go to their concert! Lol! I’m completely hooked now and I’m 48! ❤
It’s not a tattoo it’s ink and represents his insecurities over his creativity, hence his hands and his voice. They do something really cool with it in his live shows
You are gonna love their range of styles man, Tyler is a straight genius with music. And there’s a huge hidden story/world that he’s created through out his music
The lead singer, Tyler Joseph, is a prodigy. sort of like Ren, he sings, raps, produces the beats, plays instruments, and is an angel sent directly from God to bless our ears. Enjoy.
The last rabbit hole I fell in was Twenty One Pilots years ago. Now I'm in the Ren rabbit hole but I still love TOP. Car radio, heavy dirty soul, Migraine, holding on to you, and Trees live at the Fox are some of my favorites. And their music is real and deep and all over the place!!
I'm freaking out right now. I was going to comment the exact same thing! Fell into the TOP rabbit hole 8 years ago favourite band ever since even got a tattoo of their logo. Still to this day I listen to every album from self titled to scaled and icy with my favs being Car radio, Migraine, My blood, Lane boy x Redecorate (livestream version) and polarize. This song introduces the character of Blurryface, which you see in the pitched down vocal and red eyes. It’s also the reason for the black paint Tyler wears on his throat and his hands, representing the insecurities and anxiety over what he creates (throat = his voice and his singing / hands = what he writes and performs). Blurryface has a suffocating control over him, but Tyler uses his music to fight against Blurryface. Twenty one pilots uses a lot of symbolism and Tyler created lore that is a narrative that crosses over multiple albums. My buddy tried to make me listen to these guys over and over forever and I resisted (I like Boom Bap) but then he showed me "Lane Boy" and it was fire now I love this kind of music I would recommend "Lane Boy" - "Car Radio" and "Heavydirtysoul" made it to my playlists.
BP I would recommend Ode To Sleep as the official video gives a little insight into how they started and where they got to. Also showcases the way they mix things up, they make their own tunes, and have some proper bars not just spiting but bars on certain tracks. I think you'll be pretty impressed in either case. Also a side note: going down this hole will be good for the channel, the 21 pilot fans are proper fanatics. They cultivate this with an over arching lore to their music/albiums. As you'll probably already see they are trying to explain every little thing about them. Other side note: I really like 'car radio' but you really need to peep the lyrics on it, don't let them go over your head.
All I have to say is that I went to see them live a few years ago and it had to be one of the most entertaining concerts I ever seen, if not the best! And that's coming from a metal fan. I went to concerts from The Beastie Boys, Metallica, Pantera, FFDP, Gojira and Anthrax to name a few and honestly 21 Pilots takes the cake. If you ever have the chance to see them live, you have to check them out!
Wow! I'm surprised you're just now hearing this for the first time. 21 Pilots have a lot of music that is 🔥. A good introduction to them is "Ode to Sleep" which is done in a documentary style video.
I agree with everything everyone had said. Also check out any if the Live at the Fox Theater videos on UA-cam. (PS I'm in my late 40's and love this band. My 24 year old son introduced me to them in 2015 and my 11 year old and I are vibing out. I got him hooked during COVID-19. We didn't go to any of the shows but we'll get them next time around!) Tyler Joseph was doing the whole mental health thing 15 years ago. Like Ren, you can’t put Twentyone Pilots in a box. Their style is crazy. Go back one album and react to Migraine and break down the bars. I think you will love it.

So glad to see you reacting to Twenty one Pilots. Absolutely loads of tracks for you to react to. I would really love to see you react to Car Radio, Lane Boy and Heavydirtysoul. I really respect your reactions.👍
The best band ever. Tyler has more talent in his little finger. They are tremendous live. If you start deep diving into the lore and how all the songs tie together, it is mind blowing. Last musical artists to really impress me before Ren. They bring attention to mental health issues. Tyler can really spit…they cannot be put in a genre. They switch it up each album. Lyrical madness. If the TØP clique find you reacting, buckle up. So happy you found them.
I remember my first trip down the twenty one pilots rabbit hole and it was one of the best deep dives I ever done. Such a unique band with lots of genre bending songs that just works because of Tyler’s genius. I’d love you to react to Migraine the live room version. It’s so so good and you get to hear all of Tyler’s vocal range.
You’re in for a real treat with 21 Pilots. Check out Heathens, Chlorine, Ride, and The Outside from them. I’m an early 80s baby that loves the old school stuff but I really appreciate these amazing artists you react to like Ren and NF too.
Oh sweet, thanks for checking these guys out. My 7 year old recently learned “heathens” on drums, and I had never heard of them. Looks like they’re worth a rabbit hole plunge!
Yeah, definitely gotta check out some of their less commercial stuff. They certainly cross genres, a lot. Thanks for the larger viewing screen, btw. You can cover Don's head when he's in studio, if it means we get to see the videos better. 🤣
I think you would like “Doubt”, “Polarize”, “Car Radio”, “Guns for Hands.” But there are so many more to choose. Can’t really go wrong. If some of it sounds familiar it’s because you likely did indeed hear it at Chipotle or somewhere out and about. They are one of the most successful bands of the last 10 or so years. Many radio hits, they have been nominated for 5 Grammys, and seemingly each year they have another hit or two hit the top of the charts. But through all of that, they don’t complete give into the pop/radio friendly sound. They have their own thing and it’s very creative. Also, both the band members are Christian, but have chosen not to be classified as a Christian band, so as not to close themselves off to a much broader fan base. They also grapple a lot with their faith, and choose to try to uplift rather then being down.
They are so talented, my absolute favorite band. They have a beautiful and diverse discography, I recommend Car Radio, Guns for Hands, Holding on to you, Heavydirtysoul and Trees live at the Fox theater.
The complete experience Tyler provides in creating Twentyone Pilots music and the immersive world behind it can't be explained in 1 comment. It's a journey you need to start at the beginning years ago. It's a journey you will never regret taking though. He's a genuis. Ren level.
Yes❣️ Holding Onto You was the 1st song I heard by them. It eventually grew on me to be my favourite song for a while and they grew to be my fav band. Now Ren is on a similar level for me. I mean I love both 🥰.
LANE BOY, CAR RADIO, Fairly local, Morph, ODE TO SLEEP,PET CHEETAH..then there is LORE which is DEEP and videos you need to do in order! Just WATCH what will happen to your channel if you devote some time to the world of TØP! The fan base is insane and we search for these videos! Been a subscriber for a while and I promise you I’m not steering you wrong. He raps and sings a lot! One of his best raps is LEVITATE but it’s part of the lore that needs to be done in order. We will guide and explain. Blurryface that he sings in this song is part of the lore.
Another TøP clique subscriber joining for more! 😁 Dope reaction! I can almost guarantee you’ve heard this song before and that’s why it sounds familiar-be it in a grocery store, a restaurant, or a Chipotle (they even had a promotional Twenty One Pilots Chipotle burrito at one point 😂)
Wanna hear crazy flow and genre combo? Listen to their "Heavy Dirty Soul"! Breakbeats, souly/bluesy, fast flows, half-time and strong hook. Love that song
Haha BP this song is sooo old. You probably heard it walking through a pharmacy or department store for sure. Anyways I haven't listened to it in a long time and it was fun watching you discover it!
Car radio, heathens, heavy dirty soul, house of gold, tear in my heart are all some of my favourite songs of all time and his acoustic version of I can’t help falling in love with you is so gracefully done with just Tyler and his ukulele
Please go down this rabbit hole you will not be disappointed. A lot of their songs are not designed for radio, only a few. But Tyler is incredibly talented, he can literally do anything musical. He’s amazing

They played this song EVERYWHERE and all the time. It was a huge song.
You nailed it, TØP is the full package and combines all genres, so please keep reacting!
loved your reaction, really hope you check out more music form them!
They are truly awesome 😎 and phenomenal live. You need to listen to so much more. I am a Twenty One Pilots and Ren fan. ❤
You’re in for a real treat with 21 Pilots. Check out Heathens, Chlorine, Ride, and The Outside from them. I’m an early 80s baby that loves the old school stuff but I really appreciate these amazing artists you react to like Ren and NF too.
Yes, I’m so excited to see his discovery with him 😂.
yaay one of my fav bands, please check out some of their live stuff too, another genius with music and the thought that goes into everything,
Oh sweet, thanks for checking these guys out.
First time listening. A cool song to intro. I like it too...no fusion. Nice reaction. 1.3B views👊👍☝️🖼☝️🎇😌
I’m commenting again on this just because this is amazing! I do hope to see more 21P on your channel brotha
Omg!!! Let’s go!!!✌️😊🌼Lane Boy
These guys are great! Keep checking them out! Lane Boy and Ride are great!
The complete experience Tyler provides in creating Twentyone Pilots music and the immersive world behind it can't be explained in 1 comment. It's a journey you need to start at the beginning years ago. It's a journey you will never regret taking though. He's a genuis. Ren level.
I love this song and video. I love that the video is shot in their childhood homes and neighborhood and includes their families.
it was on the radio constantly in 2015-2016 used to hear while delivering food lol
PLEASE do “Holding Onto You”!! Studio then live at Fox Theater to see how epic their stage shows are. Also peep “Ride”, “HEAVYDIRTYSOUL”
Yes❣️ Holding Onto You was the 1st song I heard by them. It eventually grew on me to be my favourite song for a while and they grew to be my fav band. Now Ren is on a similar level for me. I mean I love both 🥰.
I hadn’t heard them before either. I really like their vibe though. I always liked a good singing voice too👍🦇
LANE BOY, CAR RADIO, Fairly local, Morph, ODE TO SLEEP,PET CHEETAH..then there is LORE which is DEEP and videos you need to do in order!
Ride is amazing !!!!! Love the groove and reggae vibes
Yes!!! Here for it!
Nice!! they have some real bangers
Surprised you didn't know 21 pilots. They have some real bangers in their catalogue. Enjoyed your reaction to a great video.
Car Radio and Lane Boy are interesting ones if you're thinking of doing more by these boys.
Definitely do more twenty one pilots! Wont be disappointed
Love 21 pilots phenomenal love there song heathens . Sounds formiler becausevits biggggggg
Another TøP clique subscriber joining for more! 😁
Dope reaction!
Could not have started with a better song!!🤘🏻🤘🏻
When I say I RAN when I saw this 😂 21 Pilots was my comfort music when I was a teenager
Haha BP this song is sooo old. You probably heard it walking through a pharmacy or department store for sure. Anyways I haven't listened to it in a long time and it was fun watching you discover it!
Bro, if you go down the TOP rabbit hole. I am here for it all. They are GOAT'd.
It's actually really cool to watch someone "meet" TøP at this point. ❤
You going down this rabbit hole I will sooooo watch, I like you
I do love me some twenty-one pilots. 😊
i saw them in LA a couple years ago and it was the best show i've ever seen, not even close
